LA CORSA PIÙ BELLA DEL MONDO Alljährlich im Mai treffen sich in Brescia die schönsten Oldtimer zu einem der faszinierendsten Auto-Corsos der Welt.

Each year Brescia becomes the epicenter for classic car fans from around the world.

Lediglich 375 Fahrzeuge werden zur Mille Miglia zugelassen. Grundbedingung ist, dass ein gleiches Modell bereits an einem der historischen Rennen zwischen 1927 und 1957 teilgenommen hatte. Die Sieger werden am Ende nach einem ausgeklügelten Punkte- und Koeffizienten-System ermittelt. Jeweils am Donnerstag abend beginnt das Herz der Mille Miglia in Brescia zu schlagen, wenn sich die Fahrer aus allen Teilen der Welt hier treffen, um sich am nächsten Tag auf den Weg nach Rom zu machen. Bereits am Samstag geht es dann wieder zurück nach Brescia. Der Sonntag ist schliesslich der Preisverleihung und anschliessender Siegesfeier gewidmet.

Everything happens on a long and incredible weekend in May… Only 375 vehicles are accepted for participation in the Mille Miglia race, selected exclusively from the models that took part in at least one of the historical Mille Miglia races (from 1927 to 1957) and driven by a crew coming from all over the world. It starts off from Brescia, the beating heart of the Mille Miglia, on Thursday night, in order to get to Rome by the day after. Participants leave from Rome the following Saturday morning, so they arrive in Brescia by nighttime. Sunday will be dedicated to the prize ceremony and celebrations.

As always, Mille Miglia 2013 has designed the race along the magical scenery of Italian territory, going from Brescia to Rome and then back again. All the beautiful elements of this sport and what surrounds it will be combined with the history, nature and art of this beautiful country.

Auf den ersten Blick scheint alles ganz normal, aber dann auch wieder nicht. Die schiere Masse an Menschen wirkt mit der Zeit verstörend. Da die natürlichen Gegebenheiten es erfordern, ihre Hochhäuser an den steilen Felshängen empor wachsen zu lassen, vermittelt auch die Topografie der Stadt den Eindruck eines gefrässigen Molochs. Bei all den Menschenmassen, Verkehrsstaus und waghalsigen Brückenkonstruktionen über dutzende von Ebenen lassen sich inmitten des Chaos‘ durchaus noch Spuren des alten »Bilderbuch«-Chinas entdecken, wie wir es uns oft in unserer Fantasie ausmalen... und wie es so oft schlichtweg kaum mehr existiert.

Ein fotografischer Kurztrip durch den Ortsteil Ciqikou. Hier trifft das traditionelle China mit Hawkern und alten Herrschaften beim Mahjongspiel auf eine »alternative« Szene junger Menschen, die einen Lebensstil zu suchen scheinen, wie er eher in Berlin oder London zuhause ist - Bioprodukte und kleine Cafés im Hippie-Stil – schüchterne Signale eines sich langsam abzeichnenden Wandels. c c m a g # 2 / 2 01 3

At first glance, the impression is of perfectly normal city life. But then again, maybe not: Over time, the sheer number of people is enough to be unsettling. And since natural constraints mean that skyscrapers have to be perched on steep rocky slopes, the very topography of the city too gives the impression of a ravenous Moloch.

Yet for all the endless layers of madding crowds, traffic snarl-ups and dizzying bridge constructions, traces of the old »picture-book« China can still be found among this teeming mass of humanity. The China we conjure up in our mind‘s eye. And the China that, quite simply, hardly still exists.

From 6 July to 19 August, the Salle des Étoiles, renowned internationally as a first-rate music venue with its ‘festival of festivals’, will host a constellation of stars. Jean René Palacio, SBM Artistic Director and the festival’s conductor, wanted an event on the same grand scale as this celebration. It symbolises the extraordinary cultural and human adventure perpetuated for 150 years by the SBM in accordance with the wishes of its founder, Francois Blanc, in 1863: An invitation to one of the world’s most stunning destinations. A widely-recognised event: The world changes but some things remain the same… such as the festival which is acknowledged as an international showcase for music and elegance ‘made in Monaco’. Some showbiz greats are at the top of the bill in the Principality this year!

The headline news is, of course, the presence of Barbadian superstar, Rihanna, in first place on

Billboard’s list of ‚Top 100 Pop Song Artists of 1992–2012‘. As she will give two remarkable concerts, your ears (and your eyes...) can really enjoy her performances which are highly-charged with R’n’B, pop and dance-hall influences. The Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival has some really terrific moments lined up for you this summer. Planet rock is all a buzz! The most British and sexiest of singer-songwriters, Rod Stewart, is making a huge comeback. Die Zimmer wurden geräumiger, weisen beruhigende Farben auf und entsprechen zeitgemässen ökologischen Standards. Das Projekt mit höchsten Ansprüchen ans innenarchitektonische Design, wurde von Pierre-Yves Rochon geleitet und perfekt verknüpft mit der Philosophie des Traditionshauses welches 1861 am Seeufer von Ouchy eröffnet wurde. 1908 wurde der PalaceFlügel dem Originalgebäude hinzugefügt, da die bestehende Infrastruktur aufgrund des zunehmenden Erfolgs und Renommees der Schweizer Hotellerie zu klein geworden ist.

Es blickt auf eine lange und faszinierende Geschichte zurück, die stets in enger Wechselbeziehung zu der Unwägbarkeit der Zeitläufte oszillierte. Die 168 Zimmer, 3 Restaurants, Frühstücksraum und Fitnessräumlichkeiten wurden laufend renoviert ohne dass jemals die Seele des Hotels verletzt ­worden wäre, aber stets die Annehmlichkeiten der Gäste zum Ziel hatte. Im Beau-Rivage Palace wird dies »La Tradition en Mouvement« (Tradition in Bewegung) genannt.

Für die Erneuerung des Palace Flügels wurden edle Materialien verwendet. Es wurde grosses Augenmerk auf die Details gelegt und der öko-

Das exquisite Auge von Pierre-Yves Rochon Die Arbeiten begannen im Herbst 2012 und Ende April 2013 wurden die ersten 37 Zimmer fertig­ gestellt. Mit der Renovation der restlichen 61 Zimmer wird im kommenden Herbst begonnen und die Fertigstellung wird im April 2014 erwartet. Der erste Teil beinhaltete die Erneuerung von zwei Suiten. Die erstere ist eine Duplex Suite mit zwei Schlafzimmern mit separatem Bad. Sie liegt auf dem 5. Stock und gewährt eine spektakuläre

The exquisite eye of Pierre-Yves Rochon Work began in autumn of 2012, with the first 37 bedrooms ready in April 2013. The remaining 61 will be renovated from this autumn and are due to be completed in April 2014. The first stage includes two suites. One is a duplex and comprises two bedrooms with separate bathrooms. Located on the 5th floor, it enjoys a spectacular view over Lake Geneva and the French Alps: perfect

for family holidays.

The second suite is literally dedicated to relaxation and wellbeing since it is a Spa-Suite. As well as a beautiful bedroom with an 180° view over the lake and the Alps, it has a lounge area with a fireplace. The chief attraction is a 50m2spa area, comprising two massage/relaxation tables, a Jacuzzi bath and a hammam. All the treatments of the Cinq Mondes spa are available in the private setting of this 100 m2 suite. This major interior decoration project was assigned to Pierre-Yves Rochon. He enjoys an undisputed international reputation and has done excellent work for traditional grand hotels, among them The Savoy in London, the Four Seasons Georges V in Paris and, closer to home, the Grand Hôtel du Lac at Vevey.

Sicht über den Genfersee und die französischen Alpen – eine perfekte Ausgangslage für erholsame Familienferien. Die zweite Suite ist der reinen Erholung g ­ ewidmet. Es handelt sich um eine Spa-Suite mit einem wunderschönen Schlafzimmer mit einer 180° Sicht über den See und die Alpen sowie einer Lounge und einem Kamin. Die Hauptattraktion ist ein 50m2 Spabereich in dem sich zwei Massage- und Relaxationtische, ein Jacuzzi und ein Hammam befinden. Alle Behandlungen des Cinq Mondes Spa stehen im privaten Rahmen in der 100 m2 Suite zur Verfügung.

Dieses eindrückliche Innendekorationsprojekt wurde an Pierre-Yves Rochon vergeben, der international einen exzellenten Ruf geniesst. Er hat sich mehrfach bewiesen mit der Renovation diverser traditioneller Grandhotels wie dem Savoy in London, dem Four Seasons Georges V in Paris und dem Grand Hôtel du Lac in Vevey.

Für das Design der Schlafzimmer spielte die Omnipräsenz des Sees und die Lichteinstrahlung eine bedeutende Rolle. Ein Spiegelspiel bringt den See und das Licht in die Zimmer und illuminiert den Raum. Die Auswahl der Farbtöne ist auf die Inspiration durch natürliche Landschaftsfarben zurückzuführen. Drei Farben setzen den Hauptton. Die Junior Suiten sind in einem warmen und harmonischen grün und die Doppelzimmer in leichtem beige und himmelblau gehalten. Die Herausforderung an den Innenarchitekten war die Bewahrung des Gleichgewichts zwischen der Nutzung des Raumes und der Optimierung des Komforts. Der erste Eindruck beim Betreten eines Zimmers zählt und deshalb müssen die Farbschemata, die Spiegel und die Transparenz überzeugend zusammen spielen.

Die Badezimmer werden immer häufiger als Räume zum Verweilen betrachtet. Pierre-Yves Rochon hat deshalb ein besonderes Augenmerk auf eine angenehme Grösse und Lichtdurchflutung gelegt. Es wurden nur edelste Materialien ausgewählt. Die Böden zieren kunstvolle Mosaiken und abgeschrägte Spiegel mit integrierten Fernsehern unterstützen die wunderschöne Lichtstimmung der Glasdecken. Die Badezimmer wirken wie eine Verlängerung des Salons mit einer maximalen Nutzung des Tageslichts. In einigen Zimmern wurden transparente Wände zwischen Badezimmer und Schlafzimmer eingezogen, um diesen Effekt noch zu verstärken. Die grossa­rtige Sicht von der Badewanne über den See gehört sicherlich zu den USPs der neuen Zimmer.

Geschicktes Handwerk Pierre-Yves Rochon legt bei seiner Arbeit besonderen Wert auf qualifiziertes Handwerk und eine gute Selektion von gehobenen Materialien. Eine Herausforderung stellt das Alter des Gebäudes dar. Aus diesem Grund sind die Räume von unterschiedlicher Grösse und zeigen verschiedene Grundrisse. Diese Gegebenheit hatte zur Folge, dass jedes Badezimmer bezüglich Layout, Möblierung oder Stoffe und Teppiche massgeschneidert werden musste.

Die Junior Suiten wurden mit Kronleuchtern aus Muranoglas verziert. Die Tapeten wurden mittels einer traditionellen Methode geklebt. Die Mosaiken für die Badezimmer stammen von einer der traditionsreichsten Firmen Italiens. Geschliffene florale Ornamente zieren die Spiegel in denen 25cm TV-Bildschirme integriert sind.

into the room, illuminating the space. The choice of colours is intimately linked to this aim, taking inspiration from the natural palette of the landscape. Three colour harmonies are used for the rooms: almond green (for certain of the Junior Suites), light beige and sky blue. Very peaceful colours, in an extension of the surrounding panorama. The interior designer has taken great pains to maintain a balance between making the most of the space and comfort in using it. Believing that first impressions always prevail over any that follow, he pays particular attention to what is taken in at first glance. As a result, the colour scheme, mirrors and transparency undeniably enhance the impression given as you enter each room.

The bathrooms In general, the bathroom is becoming ever more a “room to live in�. Pierre-Yves Rochon has therefore chosen to pay particular attention to it and make it appealingly spacious. Bigger and brighter, the bathrooms are enhanced with refined high-end materials. These perfectly reflect the concern for its heritage at the Beau-Rivage Palace. The floor is defined with fine mosaics, the bevelled mirror with integrated television blends into the space and the illuminated glass ceiling provides beautiful lighting. The bathrooms now feel like a continuation of the main room, with maximum use of natural light. To add to this effect, some rooms have a transparent wall between bathroom and bedroom. In these cases you can contemplate the lake while taking a bath.

Skilled craftsmanship In his work, Pierre-Yves Rochon calls upon skilled craftsmanship and a selection of sophisticated materials. Moreover, the age of the building means that the shape of rooms differs from one room to the next, so each bedroom has had to be tailored individually, whether in its layout, its furniture or the fitted carpet designed with a border, like a rug. The Junior Suites are adorned with Murano blown-glass chandeliers. The wall coverings are installed according to the traditional method, on a soft backing with a neat corner finish. The bathroom mosaics come from one of the oldest firms in Italy. And finally, the mirrors are bevelled with a stylised floral decoration and have 10-inch TV screen technology built into them.

An environmentally aware project Aside from the decoration work, the renovation of the bedrooms has involved a complete overhaul of the heating and electricity system, in line with a growing environmental awareness. Each room has an electronic control system. This controls the temperature and light intensity according to the occupation of the room and the time of day and season, leading to genuine energy savings. Electronic control is one response to the challenges posed by working in an historic building. The façade is listed and cannot therefore be insulated by traditional methods. The air conditioning comes from the lake water. To provide cool air, cold water is brought to the bedrooms by a pumping system. All the glass doors are now triple glazed. And finally, the roof and attic of the Palace wing have also been fully insulac c m a g # 2 / 2 01 3

Ein ökologisch bewusstes Projekt Nebst dem Dekorationsaspekt hat die Renovation eine Überholung des Heizungs- und Elektrizitätssystems mit sich gebracht, auch im Bewusstsein an die immer grösseren Ansprüche an die Umweltfreundlichkeit. Jedes Zimmer verfügt über ein elektronisches Kontrollsystem. Die Temperatur und Lichtintensität wird je nach Nutzung des Zimmers und der Tages- und Saisonzeit individuell geregelt, was zu beträchtlichen EnergieEinsparungen führt. Elektronische Kontrolle ist die Antwort auf die Herausforderungen, die sich bei der Arbeit in einem historischen Gebäude stellen. Die Fassade ist gegeben und kann nicht mit traditionellen Methoden isoliert werden. Die Klimaanlage wird mit Seewasser beliefert. Die kühle Luft in den Schlafzimmern wird durch kaltes Wasser über Pumpsysteme gewährleistet.

Nach der Eröffnung des Cinq Mondes Spa im Jahr 2005, dem Miyako Restaurant 2007 und dem Anne-Sophie Pic Restaurant 2009, der Renovation der Lobby Lounge, der Rotonde und der Bar zwischen 2009 und 2012 illustriert dieser aktuelle Schritt den Wunsch des Beau-Rivage Palace nach Veränderung ohne die eigene Vergangenheit dabei aus dem Auge zu verlieren.

Das British Classic Car Meeting vereint Eleganz und Klasse in der atemberaubenden Engadiner Alpenwelt. Auf dem Programm stehen die drei Bündner Ferienklassiker St. Moritz, Davos und Lenzerheide sowie die Pässe Flüela und Albula.

Seit 1994 treffen sich jedes Jahr im Juli in St. Moritz um die 200 Oldtimer und Classic Cars der Marken Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin & Lagonda, Jaguar & Daimler, Austin-Healey & Healey zu Ausfahrten, Gleichmaässigkeitsprüfung (Rallye) und »Concours d‘Elelégance«.

In der »Open Class« sind klassische Fahrzeuge anderer Britischer Marken bis Baujahr 1960 in begrenzter Anzahl auf Einladung zum British Classic Car Meeting St. Moritz zugelassen. Damit wird wird die Reihe an interessanten Classic Cars am BCCM noch attraktiver.

The British Classic Car Meeting combines elegance and class in the breath­taking Engadin Alpine world. Around 200 British old-timers and classic cars (Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin & Lagonda, Jaguar & Daimler, Austin-Healey & Healey) have met in St. Moritz every July since 1994 to take part in outings, reliability tests (rally) and the Concours d‘Elégance. A limited number of other pre-1960 British cars are invited to take part in the British Classic Car Meeting St. Moritz in the Open Class. The list of interesting classic cars at the BCCM thus becomes even more attractive.

The British Classic Car Meeting in St. Moritz is an official event of the following classic car clubs: Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club for Rolls-Royce & Bentley Drivers – Swiss Section, Jaguar Drivers’ Club Switzerland, Aston Martin Owners Club Switzerland, Austin-Healey Club Switzerland.

Die »Chesa Veglia« gilt als das älteste Bauernhaus von St. Moritz und Besiegelungsort der rätoromanischen Sprache als vierte Landessprache der Schweiz. 1936 im Auftrag des Badrutt’s Palace Hotels umgebaut, entstand mit der Zeit ein Treffpunkt für Geniesser und Nachtschwärmer, die im Herzen von St. Moritz in einem der drei Restaurants oder zwei Bars in rustikalgemütlichem Ambiente verweilen möchten.

Gigi Kracht, in collaboration with Galerie Gmurzynska, devote ART IN THE PARK XI to the work of the late Robert Klippel (1920-2001), a prolific constructivist artist frequently lauded as ‘Australia’s greatest sculptor’. Fascinated with organic forms, Klippel used scrap metal and bits of ­machinery – junk to many – to create the astonishingly delicate sculptures he himself described as ‘man-made mechanization’.

The Grand Tour organisers, Jeremy Jackson Sytner and Chris Bucknall go out of their way to find exciting roads through dramatic landscapes, most of it off the beaten track. Deserted rural countryside, lush green valleys, endless forests, twisting mountain passes. If you love driving, you‘ll spend five days with a smile on your face.

Whilst the Grand Tour is not a race (and at no stage are competitors required to speed or to drive competitively), it is a wonderful opportunity to drive your car as it was designed.

In spite of that, ‘the hunt’ is a hard fought competition. Each morning teams are issued with a set of turn-by-turn directions to that night‘s hotel.

On the reverse, four or five cryptic clues for locations along that route. You‘ll be hunting around the gardens of châteaux, unusual museums, famous vineyards and puzzling monuments in out

Catch A Wave With Surfing Champion Ruben Gonzalez At The Oitavos, Portugal Ruben Gonzalez was born in Portugal in 1978, brought up in Portugal and educated at Portuguese Lycée Français Charles Lepierre. He discovered a passion for the ocean at a very young age when he started surfing at just 12 years old.

A few years later he started competing and went on to win the National and European Championships in the categories of sub 16 and sub 18. In 2004, at age 25, he became National Champion for the first time, a title he held on to in 2005, 2006 and secured again for a fourth time in 2008. He fast became the forerunner of professional surf in Portugal and is still THE surf face of Cascais and the Estoril Coast.

Auch an Flughäfen und in Restaurants wird meist nur Chinesisch gesprochen. Reisende mit einem Smartphone können Sprachproblem jetzt einfach lösen: Mit einem neuen mobilen Sprachführer ist es möglich über eine Millionen Sätze auf Deutsch oder Englisch zu formulieren und direkt ins Chinesische zu übersetzen.

So funktioniert es: Wählen Sie aus vordefinierten Szenarien (z.B. im Taxi, beim Einkaufen, im Restaurant) direkt das Passende aus oder greifen Sie auf das Wörterbuch zu und erstellen Sie Ihre eigenen Sätze mit wenigen Fingerbewegungen auf dem Display. That even applies to conversations at airports and restaurants. However, travelers with a smartphone can now easily solve language problems: With a new mobile phrasebook it is possible to formulate more than one million sentences in English or German and translate them directly to Chinese.

This is how it works: Choose a dialogue from several pre-defined scenarios (e.g. in a taxi, at a mall, in a restaurant) or access the built-in dictionary and create your own dialogues with just a few finger movements on the screen. The translated Chinese sentence will be shown on the display and read out loud by your smartphone.

The secret: Your correspondent can answer in the same way on the same device in his native language. Hence real dialogues with locals are possible on the spot - the app enables simple and safe communication during your stay in China. It is safe: All dialogues have been reviewed and approved by linguists, the user can be sure that the translations are always correct. The app development was supported by the German Research Center of Artificial Intelligence in Berlin and is available in German Chinese and English – Chinese.
