It is a time of refreshing from the Lord, the time for rejoicing in the gathering of the saints. Let us gather in one accord, grateful the Lord came and tabernacled among men.

Tabernacles - God With Us

The overall theme of the Feast of Tabernacles is a beautiful picture of the unity of the saints and the true Church gathered together. On this special holy day, every Israelite had to leave their dwelling place and assemble in small, humble booths for fellowship and worship. They had one common purpose in mind: to keep the feast of the Lord in its’ season, and to celebrate the ingathering of the wines and oils. God had provided, and the purpose was to celebrate his provision all together, like a family.

The birth of our Savior, the Lord Yeshua (Jesus Christ) most likely happened during the Feast of Tabernacles. I cannot be dogmatic here since the Bible does not pinpoint the date of our Savior's birth.

However, there is strong scriptural evidence in support of the Feast of Tabernacles as the time of His birth.

The Feast of Tabernacles is unique in two ways. First, it is unique in that among the Festivals of the Lord, it specifically invites the Gentile nations to participate. (De 31:10-12) Second, the Feast of Tabernacles is unique in that the Bible tells us that it will be celebrated throughout the Messianic Age. Zechariah 14:16-19 makes it clear that during the Millennium, all the nations of the earth will celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.

As Believers in Jesus, we celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles while looking both to the past and to the future. The ancient Israelites looked to the past with joy and thanksgiving for their deliverance from the bondage in Egypt. But, as Believers in Jesus we look to the past with joy and thanksgiving for our deliverance from the bondage of sin and its’ consequence - eternal death. The ancient Israelites looked to the future with the expectation that God would provide rain for an abundant harvest in the coming year. One might argue that the ancient Israelites were short-sighted and materialistic. However, as Believers in Jesus we look to the future in eager anticipation of the great harvest of souls and the joyous inauguration of Christ's Millennial Kingdom.

Go Ye Out To Meet Him “Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh” ( Mt 25:1-13).

Surely we desire that none of us, nor our loved ones, should be of these foolish Virgins. The door is shut, some shut-in, and some shut out; either you will be shut in or out. It mightily concerns us all and if we would know the meaning, we must know the key in verse 13: “Watch therefore, for you know neither the Day nor the Hour when the Son of Man cometh.” Keeping watch is what Jesus admonished his people to do. We may not know the exact day or hour, but we should know the times and seasons. Tabernacles is the season of revealing the coming of Christ and our gathering unto him. "But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night" (1Th 5:1-2).

We read of the Coming of the Son of Man, in Matthew: “For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the

tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other” (Mt 24:27-31). This is the gathering of the saints to go out and meet the Lord.

There is much yet to be done to prepare for our Lord’s return. Included in that list of things is the gathering and the perfecting of the Elect. We must bring a group of people to the condition mentioned in Isaiah 60:7, and described in Romans 15:16-18, "that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost,” to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed”.

Let our hearts rejoice in the coming of the Lord, going out to meet the Bridegroom at his banquet table. We pray our spirits to be refreshed in the Lord, yielding ourselves to the Spirit, To God be the glory. Amen.
