Ask ye of the LORD Rain

In Israel there is a rainy season. The rains begin in October and gradually become heavier throughout winter until they diminish around March/April.

The rst rain of the season is called the Yoreh, or early rain. This rain softens the soil and signals the time for farmers to plough their land. Rain continues to fall throughout the winter months. This rain is essential for the farmers to grow their precious crops. The last rains are in spring, and are called the Malkosh. These latter rains of the rainy season ripen the crops. The summer months are dry “Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things. Be not afraid, ye beasts of the eld: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the g tree and the vine do yield their strength. Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the rst month. And the oors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall over ow with wine and oil. And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satis ed, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed” (Joel 2:21-27)

“Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the eld. For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a ock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd. Mine anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats: for the LORD of hosts hath visited his ock the house of Judah, and hath made them as his goodly horse in the battle” (Zec 10:1-3)

Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh” (Jas 5:7-8)
