God

Resist the Proud, But Giveth

To The Humble July 8, 2018

“Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.

Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up” (Jam 4:5-10).

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place. For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually” (2Ch 7:14-16).

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh

about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory

by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen” (1 Pe 5:6-11).

“Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?

Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God” (Mic 6:6-8)?

There seems to be a growing trend in society, especially in men, that somehow arrogance or ego is what makes you strong. I get it, looking the part may actually work, for a little while. But the damages of an inflated ego last a whole lot longer than tricking a few people into thinking you are better than you really are. A lot of men seem to believe that putting on a front is strength.

I, however, disagree. Humility is Strength.

What do I mean by humility? When I talk about humility, I’m not talking about some self-deprecating belief or being timid, passive, or weak. I’m talking a very clear understand that you don’t have it all figured out and you have a long way to go.

As Micah said God requires us to walk humbly before Him. The one step to becoming more humble is to approach everything with curiosity, Ask and it

shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be open. A curious mind and from the position that we are here to learn as much as we can from God’s Word. Once we approach God with curiosity, He is more than willing to reveal Himself throughout the whole Bible, delivering more value to our understanding, and learn a more and more each day. “The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God” (Psa 69:32).

God told Solomon he could have whatever he asked, with a humble heart Solomon asked for wisdom, for the task before him was great to judge the people.

We take another step in trusting God, “Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (Mat 18:3-4). Much as a child is dependent on the parents, God wants us to be dependent on Him in all things.

This lesson God taught the children of Israel forty years in the wilderness.

“And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no” (Due 8:2). Trusting God is knowing you cannot do it on your own, though we may try, we find many times failure, but with God all things are possible.

One of the hardest steps in humility is letting other in to your space, as believers we are a part of a body, each caring for the other. Sharing in the things of God, to encourage one another in love to be what God has called us to be. “Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed” (Heb 12:12-13). “For the body is not one member, but many” (1Co 12:14). Whether you know it or not, you have not achieved any level of success in your life without the help of someone else. Never overlook that. There are many men and women who have helped me to get to where I am, and we can help each other.

Let us walk together humbly before our God and pray, He will open the flood gates of heaven and pour out a blessing that will heal us and all that are broken, restoring that which the devil has stolen.
