The power of God’s Word

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Heb 4:12).

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew rst, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith” (Rom 1:16-17).

“And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them esh, that they may eat a whole month. Shall the ocks and the herds be slain for them, to suf ce them? or shall all the sh of the sea be gathered together for them, to suf ce them? And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD'S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not” (Num 11:21-23).

“By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of

him. For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea. The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone. Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy” (Exo 15:1-6).

The Bible, when preached, taught or read, has the ability to address the deep thoughts, struggles and guilt in an individual’s heart “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

Bible, when preached, taught or read, will help us in our every day lives with very practical matters. God’s word is not some antiquated book. What to do about some con ict with another? How to overcome some temptation in the workplace? Is there a way to put my priorities in order when life is chaotic and out of control? “I know, O Lord, that a man’s life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps” (Jeremiah 10:23).

The Bible, when preached, taught or read, has the ability to make us better people, a blessed people, a heaven bound people. “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him Who called us by His own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3). How God’s Word affects us, however, is really up to us as hearers and doers.

“But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. Remember––we all may face rejection, struggles, challenges, and painful emotions––including Christians. Experiencing these occurrences alongside faith feels confusing, but it’s normal. Remember, tough times are temporary. There is something better waiting for us each time we put our trust and hope in God. Relate––to others and consistently find ways to connect with people.

Work at selflessly helping other writers. Ask others if they have prayer requests, praise reports, or something they’d like to discuss.

Rest––our thoughts, bodies, and concerns through relaxation techniques, adequate sleep, and time away from our mobile devices.

Recharge––meditate on bible verses that inspire and refresh us.

Consider memorizing passages and placing them in places where we’ll see them. My favorite is Psalm 91:4, a constant reminder that God

watches over us. We can also cultivate healthy, positive relationships with others that encourage and spiritually uplift us.

Race––to do God’s will. Run to our goals in an all-out sprint.

Tomorrow isn’t promised to us, so we must do everything possible to spread God’s love, hope, and love through our spoken and written words.

Restore––our broken relationships, especially if it is with God. Ask for forgiveness and move on. We must constantly work to rebuild those relationships with people God has called us to connect with and not live with regret. Sometimes, our most broken relationships are the ones we have with ourselves, which must be restored.

God does not give us everything we want, but he does fulfill his promises, leading us along the best and straightest paths to himself. ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer ~ If we live our life according to the gospel, we will end up on the straight and narrow path leading straight to God. He always keeps His promises and will always do what’s best for us.
