THE LORD’S PASSOVER

OPENING PRAYER: BRO LARRY DANKO OPENING SONG: WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD OPENING READING: BRO DAVID ALLEN “Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S PASSOVER” (Ex 12:3-11).

Let’s briefly revisit the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John the beloved.

We can visit the sacred ‘Upper Room’ and remember Jesus’ last supper. Every day in the presence of the twelve apostles, Jesus spoke truth fetched from Heaven, showing Himself to be a Person of wisdom unparalleled; JesusYeshua, a lovable and good Man, a Prophet possessing the keys of knowledge, prescience included.

By tradition the Passover meal had to be eaten within the city walls of Jerusalem. Jesus came with the twelve partake of the Passover. The events which occurred help us to appreciate the grandness of the atonement and the glory of the love of the Father toward us. The emotive words Jesus spoke in the Upper Room help us to understand the mind and character of our dear Saviour much better. They help us to see more clearly the greatness of the courage of Christ; for there His soul began to be exceedingly troubled, heavy as when a hefty weight or burden falls upon you suddenly.

That last night at supper lying, ‘mid the twelve, His chosen band, Jesus, with the law complying, keeps the feast its rites demand; Then, more precious food supplying, gives Himself with His own hand.

“This is My body broken for you. I give up my blood thy souls to renew.”

The Upper Room: that was the place God had chosen for the Son of Man to be with His apostles at that special time in the Jewish calendar; the place God had specifically chosen even before Abram and David and Joab and Solomon or the Queen of Sheba were born. The famous Upper Room was the focal centre of divine activity on the day of Pentecost, wasn’t it? (Acts 2)

The Blood Will Never Lose It's Power

“For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace” (Ro 6:5-).

Jesus Christ knows and loves you as an individual. He knows the challenges you face. He sees your successes and failures. In Gethsemane He suffered for all sins, mistakes, and sorrows—yours included.

SONG: ABOVE ALL “For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come” (1Co 11:23-34). Jesus Christ knows and loves you as an individual. He knows the challenges you face. He sees your successes and failures. “ Sin. My sin. Your sin. Inherited from Adam. Understand that more than just death resulted from sin. Adam was given authority for creation and in choosing to turn from God’s way, gave that authority to the tempter. Wages of sin is death. It was our sin that Jesus was sacrificed, to atone for our crimes.

“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isa 53:4-5).

To atone means to compensate or pay for something. Jesus Christ’s Atonement references His payment for the sins of mankind. It has the power to provide hope and alleviate the burden of sin for anyone.

Christ was not selective when He knelt in the Garden of Gethsemane. He suffered for every person ever born into mortality, from those who have lived and died to those presently living to those who are not yet born.

Remembering What Christ Did: Communion is a way for Jesus' followers throughout history to remind themselves of the sacrifice He made for us. The sacrifice of Jesus wasn't just some dramatic final act of heroism. His sacrifice was about love for that which was lost to redeem and set us free from the chains for sin.

Communion: “And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me” (1Co 11:24-25).
