“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city” (Heb 11:13-16).

Abraham had ample opportunity to not walk by faith. He could have gone back to the security of his home in Ur, but nothing daunted him from claiming the promises of God. If the patriarchs had returned to their homeland, they would have broken faith with God. If believers go back to the life they had before becoming Christians, they will break faith with God. They will not experience the wonders of God’s promises for them in time. None of the patriarchs returned to the Mesopotamian Valley; they remained in the promised land.

We use faith in everyday life all the time. When we sit on a chair. When we board an airplane. When we cash a check. We use faith to build relationships. Without faith there would no marriage, and no ultimate knowledge, for without faith we could not accept by faith that which is not immediately known to us or proven to us. Faith in other words is trust. Would you trust God today?

In 1860 the motto "In God We Trust" was added to our currency. In 1954 the phrase "under God" was added to our pledge of allegiance.

Are we a nation "under God" can we really say, "In God We Trust"? We are not a very trusting people. We don't trust our government of cials, we don't trust our bosses, we don't trust our neighbors, we don't trust our doctors, we don't trust our pastors. We don't even trust God.

We are to seek those things which are above, set our affection on those things, a heavenly city, which hath foundation, who’s builder and maker is God.
