club racing might look like. The weekend did not begin at the track. It began the previous fall with an unexpected opportunity - and a question for the ORPCA Board: Was there enough interest in the region to bring PCA Racing back to PIR and have the Oregon Region take part? Our Club has been involved in racing at different times in its 66-year history, although we do not currently host an active racing program. Other PCA regions around the country do active programs, and the opportunity to include PCA Racing in the 2026 Rose Cup Races at PIR offered a practical way to explore whether there might be renewed interest with the ORPCA membership. The proposal was discussed at the open December Board meeting and decided at the open January meeting. The national PCA Racing group would provide the experienced officials and established framework

BUILDING A RACE WEEKEND Running a PCA race weekend requires much more than reserving track time and opening registration. PCA Racing handled registration and supplied the required national officials including the Registrar, Race Steward, and scrutineers. ORPCA’s role was to coordinate locally with PIR and Friends of PIR while supporting the weekend on behalf of the region. Sponsorship was pursued to help offset costs, but the response fell short of the budgeted goal. So - Where to begin? • Join PCA (If you are reading this, it’s a given) • Attend autocross and Driver Education events • Build experience and confidence • Complete an approved racing school • Meet licensing and medical requirements • Enjoy safe, rewarding wheel-to-wheel racing. Is it expensive? Club racing doesn’t have to begin with a large budget, but be realistic about your finances and your time. Many drivers buy an existing race car while others gradually convert a street car. Typical costs include the car, safety equipment, tires, fuel, entry fees, maintenance, and travel. The most valuable investment is experience. n

Oregon Scenic Tours 2026

ver two long weekends in mid and late July, dozens of ORPCA members in dozens of Porsches joined Oregon Scenic Tour 2026, run as a pair of back-to-back tours through the heart of

the state. The first tour, led by Danielle Morris, was over-subscribed, so a second was quickly organized under Heinz’ guidance. These drives ran from Lebanon to Bend to The Retreat at Silvies near Seneca, with stops in Sisters, Post and Fossil along the way, the drives delivered everything a tour should: great roads, great meals, a world-class thunderstorm, and even better company. Rather than a mile-by-mile recap, what follows is the trip served up the way it felt - as a recipe. The second tour encountered some challenges due to the wildfire ignited by the thunderstorm during the first tour, but this did not prevent the attendees from having a great time.

A generous portion of Oregon: Lebanon, Boulder Falls, Bend, Post, Seneca, Fossil and The Retreat at Silvies. Long stretches of pavement: Add curves liberally. Take turns leading and following.

entire trip: which milkshake? A problem best solved by ordering one anyway. Continue to Seneca and The Retreat at Silvies, and slow everything down. Add horses, golf clubs, quads, ATVs, walking shoes - or absolutely nothing at all. That

works too. Make the dinners interesting. Pour good wine - but remember who is driving tomorrow. Then find Phil behind the bar, mixing from recipes of his own creation, a bartender who literally wrote the book on what he pours. Or get one of the four Scotch flights to taste the best of Scotland in the middle of Oregon’s cowboy country. For Friday, add Oregon weather. For Tour 1, not ordinary weather - a worldclass thunderstorm, lightning splitting enormous skies, and somewhere beyond us, fires beginning, air quality issues require route changes. Adjust the recipe. Reroute. Keep moving. That, too, is part of the journey. Tour 2’s Friday faced its own fire/weather considerations. Such is the driving life this season. But first, Fossil - where Brenda and her team welcomed a wandering collection of Porsche people with pizzas, sandwiches, and the kind of hospitality that makes a small Oregon town feel like exactly the place you were meant to stop. Mix well with friendship. Season generously with curiosity. Allow plenty of room for joy. TO SERVE: Because somewhere along the way, a collection of cars became a caravan, a route became a memory, and a group of travelers became friends who can someday say: Remember when we drove across Oregon together? The final ingredient? There is always one. Leave just enough road unexplored to give us a reason to do it all again. n

it up over the windshield. Did I mention we were driving in Sport Mode? The wind caught the phone hard, and I could barely hold on. The airflow deflected off the phone, caught the brim of my hat, and sent it sailing off onto the road. That meant slowing down, turning around, driving back until I spotted the hat sitting in the middle of the road, hopping out to grab it, turning around again, and finally catching back up with the group. I found everyone waiting a few miles down the road, wondering what on earth had happened to me. I was greeted with: “Hey, we didn’t know you’d retired from being a fast driver!” Glad they got a laugh at my expense — and gladder still to have my hat back. n

regon Region’s Pride in Motion drive July 18 was a colorful celebration of community, fun, and some fantastic driving!

We gathered in the Mortgage Express parking lot off

Sequoia Parkway in Portland to enjoy Sesame Donuts topped with rainbow sprinkles while admiring the creative displays of Pride throughout the group. Several participants decorated their Porsches in colorful Pride spirit, while others arrived in festive outfits to match. Congratulations to Eric Carter and daughter Josie for taking home the award for Most Prideful Car, and to Jody Hepburn for winning Most Prideful Outfit! After everyone had a chance to mingle, we headed toward Sherwood for our first stop at Oregon Alpacas. Members enjoyed meeting, petting, and feeding both the adult alpacas and their adorable babies—a unique and memorable experience for everyone. From there, we continued our scenic drive to Remy Wines in Dayton, where we relaxed with a wine

S

cott Dual led us on a wonderful, if at times eventful, drive which began July 19th at the End of the Oregon Trail in Oregon City and 121

miles later finished at the Crooked Tree Tavern. It was a beautiful drive, with plenty of twists and turns to put our Porsches through their paces, and delivered gorgeous views of Mt. Hood. Warren Pease generously agreed to sweep and at times had his work cut out for him. Initially, I was one car ahead of Warren. We were barely out of the starting gates when the car ahead of me missed a turn (admittedly an easy turn to miss). Warren could not have realistically run that car down, so he and I both made the turn. Happily, the car in question found its way back to the group in short order, thanks to our “Ride with GPS” app. Scott had warned us that one part of the drive would be bumpier and included some potholes. I was watching out but still managed to hit a decent size bump at speed, causing my Panamera Turbo to shake,

44 | Anzeiger | August 2026

rattle, and roll, but happily survive unscathed. A 911 behind me was less fortunate and damaged a wheel and tire. A number of us stopped to help. They managed to get a donut (I believe from a different Porsche) onto the 911, which was then able to limp home. Later Warren had to herd a couple of other Porsches back to the group (Porsche drivers can be like cats). Aside from the damaged 911, everyone made it safe and sound to the Crooked Tree Tavern, where we had a great lunch to go along with a great drive. (I recommend the Elk Burger.) I even got to see the end of the World Cup. n

ow about getting together for a relaxing Thursday evening drive after a hard day’s work? A group of ORPCA members met

up July 22nd at the Home Depot in Sherwood as our starting point. After some time to chat, we took off through the rural back roads between Sherwood and St. Paul. This route gave us plenty of chances to enjoy those long bends, quick straights, and the kind of laid-back pace that let us appreciate both the cars beneath us and the company alongside. Golden evening light as a thunderstorm rolled in across the fields didn’t hurt either. The drive wrapped up at Harvester Taproom, where everyone settled in for a meal and some conversation. It was good to see many familiar faces and a few new ones joining the group. A simple, memorable drive in the books. Till next time! n
