Whose Life Are You Running For? Participate in the 21st Annual Susan G. Komen North Central Alabama Race for the Cure® and show everyone whose life you are running for. Are you running for your mother, your sister, a co-worker, a friend? Are you running for your own life? Or are you running for the future? No matter whose life you are running for, now is the time to get involved and run for their life!

All funds from the Komen Race for the Cure go to research, education, screening and treatment programs.

Included with your online Race for the Cure registration is a one-year subscription to either SELF or GQ Magazine ($12 value.)

You will not be billed for this subscription, it is a special bonus included with your registration.

I AM THE CURE.® Susan G. Komen for the Cure® created the I AM THE CURE.® program to boost the educational outreach of the Komen Race for the Cure® Series by motivating Race participants to take an active role in their own breast health. I AM THE CURE.® is a rallying cry that is emotional, memorable and motivational. It speaks to the importance of early detection, and provides simple, actionoriented messages that Race participants can put into action.

On Race Day On Race Day, you can visit our interactive I AM THE CURE.® booth to learn more about breast self-awareness. You can spin the wheel for prizes and ‘take-home’ educational information. You’ll also see our Rovers in the bright pink and green I AM THE CURE.® shirts; they’ll be sharing the message of early detection and will reward you for your participation. All throughout the Race, you’ll hear our ‘Cure Leaders’ cheering on Race participants and reminding everyone that we all have the power to be part of the cure!

Imagine the Impact How does a 5K Race make a huge impact on the global movement to end breast cancer forever? Through the fund raising efforts of every participant.

You don’t need to be a fund raising expert to be successful at it – you just need the desire to stand up to breast cancer and make a difference. Thanks to people like you, in 2010 the Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate was able to fund $627,390.00 for education, screening and treatment services in 38 counties. This year we’re aiming even higher! If every Race participant raised an average of $100 over the registration fee, the Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate would raise an additional $1,600,000. Together, we can save lives!

Individuals from all walks of life volunteered their time and talents before, during and after the Race to ensure its success. We need leaders, thinkers, movers and shakers, educators, communicators…all types of talented people. We look forward to having you join in the Race experience with us.

History of North Central Alabama Affiliate The Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate was formed in 1994 by a group of concerned professionals and breast cancer survivors who were committed to saving and improving the lives of those affected

by breast cancer. Locally, 75% of our net profits funds non-duplicative, communitybased breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved. The remaining 25% funds groundbreaking breast cancer research around the world.

According to the Alabama Department of Health, Center for Health Statistics, 1,418,047 females live within our 38 county service area. More than one-third or 497,821 live within the five counties of Greater Birmingham. In addition to serving women in these areas, the Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate also serves men, as breast cancer affects about 1 percent of American males.

The North Central Alabama area includes the counties of Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Colbert, Coosa, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Fayette, Franklin, Greene, Hale, Jackson, Jefferson, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Morgan, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston.
