DESIGN TIL YOU DIE

SELECTION
This first assignment using Photoshop got me used to a lot of the tools I would be using throughout the semester, as well as the Photoshop interface. I used the lasso tool and various other selection tools to select items in the image, and then I added different types of adjustment layers to change the colors, lighting, and overall presentation of the different objects.
Doing this Photoshop assignment is when I had to learn to nearly master the selection tools in Photoshop. I spent a lot of time in quick mask mode using the refine edge brush tool. I also kept getting familiar with the adjustment layers. For this project, I used my dog instead of a human person.
SELECT AND MASK
To start, I selected the pen tool and got to work with vector masking in Photoshop. It took a while, but once I was done cutting out the image, I added two adjustment layers, the drop shadow, and some text.

For this assignment, I had to get real comfortable with the clone stamping tool. Boy was that tough! I can’t tell yow how long it took, copying those bricks.

Once that monumental task was over, I added my own grafitti “tag”, which is just my nickname. The YouTube tutorial I watched definitely came in clutch.

SCULPTURE TEXTURE

Can you tell I had a lot of fun with this assignment? Out of everything I’ve turned in this semester, this one might be my favorite. It was really satisfying to use all the selection tools and individually fit all the textures on top of the different areas using the warp tool. I also got to brush up on my skills with the different adjustment layers, and I felt like this was the assignment I was able to be the most creative.
PEN TOOL EXERCISE
I’m sure the transition from Photoshop and into Illustrator felt like a breath of fresh air for some, but it was a little tough for me. The cracks began to show when I first used the pen tool in Photoshop, but it was during this exercise that I realized I was going to have to improvise, and quick. The reason is... I am admittedly really, very bad with the pen tool! This assignment was luckily a cakewalk since I was just tracing with a guide below me. I also got used to using fill and stroke effects, and all these things are building blocks of Illustrator. But from this point on, I had to learn how to adapt.

TRACING
Poor Misa Amane, I only hope I was able to do her justice. That is, this assignment was a major jump in skill from the last. There were so many new tools I had to get used to. At first it was very difficult for me to even learn how to use specific tools. Tracing isn’t as easy as it looks, that’s for sure. Some parts are missing detail, but I managed to pull through.

LOGO DESIGN
For this assignment, I conceptualized a clothing brand called Coffin Clothing, which is an online store that sells apparel meant to last years and years or... until the coffin.
Not much to say about this assignment, but it was fun! I got to be very precise and got more familiar with the gradient tool, which was fun to mess around with.

The one here on the bottom right is my favorite. I think it looks the most “real” of the three logos, like you would really see it on this imaginary clothing brand’s site.

For this assignment, I mostly used the pen tool and text tool. I got to use some cool fonts, and it was cool to imagine I was creating a logo for a real company, for a cause I’m passionate about.

CAMPAIGN WITH MUTATIONS

I followed the creative vision of my classmate to create an ad campaign for her restaurant “Cheesy Paradise” in Illustrator. This was so much fun and it got me really comfortable with the pencil tool, I got to be really creative and I am super happy with how it came out. I hope my client is, too.

MOVIE POSTER

This assignment was a great intro to InDesign. It got me really familiar with the interface, and I think this transition was a lot easier than the transition to Illustrator. I was happy to work in both Photoshop and Illustrator in this project, which felt comfortable, and I also really liked creating a movie poster for a film I really love.

This project furthered my experience in InDesign and forced me to get better with the application. It was tough, but I loved making Spider Bite Piercings come to life by compiling all my knowledge from the semester so far to make a cool brochure.

MAGAZINE
I did everything in InDesign for this project other than the cover design.I had a lot of fun working on this magazine and coming up with different page layouts. It felt like a culmination of everything I’ve learned over I came up with the idea for a proenvironmental magazine.
