Congratulations: to CDR Riley Weber Murdock taking command of Assault Craft Unit 2!

Commander Riley Weber Murdock calls Virginia home. She graduated from Duke University in 1999 with a degree in Civil Engineering and was commissioned through NROTC. Her first assignment was pre-commissioning Main Propulsion Assistant onboard USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (DDG 81). She next served as Navigator onboard USS KINKAID (DD 965) and USS FLETCHER (DD 992) as part of the Navy’s first Sea Swap deployment in 2003.

CDR Murdock’s first shore assignment was at Surface Warfare Officers’ School, where she served as Director of Manpower and Personnel (N1) and as a Gas Turbine Engineering Instructor. While in Newport, she earned a Master of Business Administration from Salve Regina University and was the 2004 Junior Officer of the Year for the Newport Naval Complex.

Following department head school, where she was “Top Gunner” and recipient of the Navy League Academic Award, CDR Murdock reported to USS PREBLE (DDG 88) in 2007 as Weapons and Combat Systems Officer. While aboard PREBLE she was the recipient of the 2008 CNSF Junior Officer Award for Excellence in Tactics for Destroyer Squadron TWO ONE and the 2009 CNSF Navy and Marine Association Leadership Award.

Following her department head tour, she graduated from Marine Corps University’s Command and Staff College with a Master of Military Studies. She then served as Surface Warfare Junior Officer Sea Coordinator at Navy Personnel Command (PERS-41) from 2011-2014 and as Officer in Charge of the Surface Warfare Officers’ School Basic Division Officer Course, Norfolk from 2014-2018. CDR Murdock reported to Assault Craft Unit TWO as Executive Officer in August 2018 and took command in January 2020.
