YAWATU PAVILION PROJECT BRIEF: Collaborate to design a pavilion based on an analysis and understanding of Fibrous Materials. This project is inspired by the Silk Pavilion and ICD/1TKE 2012 Pavilion. These projects are designed by the assistance of computational methods and understanding how silk worms and spiders form silk and webs respectively.

MODULE ESTABLISHMENT Original

The framework of the selected pavilion shape is reworked by twisting the circles. The twist enables the module to transform from a 2D to 3D form. The next step of connecting the 3D form is done to transform its outlook from a just a sculptural piece to a more spacial experience. This is done by joining four of the modules.

FORM DEVELOPMENT

The form is based on the circles that are used in the previous project, Yawatu Pavilion. Circulation guides how this form comes together. This is done so in order to create a continuous experience with the beltline. It is the in-cooperation of vertical and urban farming methods that influence the last stages of the form work. 10

Vegetation

Footpath

The green loop strives to connect with the people outside the building and inside. Having a representation of urban farming methods aids in direct and indirect education.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

Every level offers a learning opportunity ranging from hydroponic systems to aquaponics and water filtration systems. The all round green wall aids in cooling the building and establishing exhibition spaces.

This ‘Blooming’ process is done with the assistance of hexagon shapes The pattern established stems from the larvae and hexagons introduced to assist in the formation of blooming like panels. This is done through manual and computational developments.
