In the Philippines, there are more than five hundred indegenous communities and it continues to be one of the poorest, most marginalized, and disadvantaged groups in the country. The communities closest to nature lacks adequate formal recognition over their lands and are constantly confronted with a variety of difficulties, including habitat loss, loss of cultural links and traditional knowledge, unsustainable tourism, poverty, and violations of human rights.
Project Buklad aims to develop a sustainable prototype of a community development complex that will provide and cater to the livelihood, educational, and healthcare rights of the indigenous groups of the Philippines. Project Buklad is a portmanteau word of “buklod” and “unlad” that correlates to its main goal towards the attainment of national unity and development through empowerment of indigenous communities.

Ar. Melba Andalecio - PaualThe Inside Out House is a residential design that integrates the elements from the outside environment as a vital part of the interior environment, hence, INSIDE OUT. From the open floor plan of the service and public area that invigorates a warm welcome, the nature-integrated space that provides maximum panoramic view of the mountains for tranquility and relaxation, to the enclosed private rooms that provides different levels of intimacy and soltitude through the genius manipulation of lighting and openings in each room.
Inside Out House seeks to provide an opportunity to adapt various tropical design strategies and provide architectural solutions to existing conditions and problems of the site while integrating user experience and comfort considerations. This project aims to design a residential building that sustainable responds to the context of the its location, prioritizing climatic responsive design strategies while providing a variety of spatial experience to its users.
With an area of 3,650 square meters, the project is located in Saduc Proper, Marawi City, Philippines, adjacent to the 36 kilometer-long Agus River

A 15-degree turn of the main wing provides focalization towards the direction of the adjacent Saduc Mosque, While the scenery of the Agus River is framed by the structure creating visual concealment invigorating excitement.
With its contemporary and tropical garden, the space aims to create a therapeutic environment to invoke surreal experiences for the benefit of the victims of the recent Marawi Siege.
