You Don’t Know Jack! Getting Ready for Summer

F

ION JUST JACK

or those who know the real Jack, you know I love men in skimpy swimsuits. It started when I was five-years-old when my swim instructor was a gorgeous swimmer in a Speedo. Since then I’ve been hooked on Speedos and men! This issue is dedicated to my fetish and judging on how many similar suits find their way to Splash Bash, Bartlett Beach Bash and countless house pool parties, I’m not alone. This time of year I always go on a diet so I can squeeze into last year’s Speedos. Like many of you, I’m constantly battling my weight. I gain and lose 30 pounds every year. I’ve tried Atkins, Mediterranean and HCG diets with good results. My new diet is called Optivia. One thing that many nutritionists say is you should eat small portions throughout day. This diet is different because all but one of your daily meals are packaged for you. They are mostly bars, shakes, pancakes, cereal and even a pasta—items never allowed on other diets. The results are impressive and it’s easy. Maybe I can fit in last year’s Speedos and show off at Bartlett Beach Bash May 21-23. For more info on Optivia, check out the ad on page 73. It works! I want to thank all of you who wished me Happy Birthday last month. There is nothing that makes my heart smile than birthday well wishes from family and friends. While I turned 55 (yes, I’m old) but as the late Betty White said “I’m not old. We are all getting older at the same rate!” Enjoy our annual ES Collection Swimsuit Spectacular along with our great features and useful guides. Now that it is warming up, it’s time to get out, have fun, and please support the businesses and organizations who advertise with ION Arizona! Jack M. Tesorero Summer Lover

Tucson native competes to be named America’s #1 champion GoGo superstar star. By John Stein

J

onny McGovern and go-go veteran Greg McKeon are on the hunt for America’s next champion go-go superstar star in OUTtv’s new competition series, GoGo for the Gold. “We’re crowning America’s #1 champion go-go superstar star … and the competition will be fierce!” McGovern promises. They have assembled some of the best go-go’s from across the country, representing a wide range of body types from traditional masculine hunks to thick ‘n juicy bears, smooth twinks, and femme dancers. One of the contestants is a trans man. An ION Arizona model favorite, our own Arizona go-go boy and adult entertainer, “Max Adonis” (of course that’s his stage name, we know that!) will be competing for the $10k cash prize. Why did you decide to compete for America’s next champion go-go superstar star? Max: I was traveling across the country in my self-built camper van when, somewhere near Chicago, I heard about the auditions for the show. I submitted my clips and was thrilled to be selected, but then I had less than two weeks to drive my peach to Los Angeles for the filming. What are your thoughts on the rest of the competition on the show? Max: Oh my gosh, they are the best group of people! We’re setting the bar so high for season one. The looks, the stunts, the love and all the feels we bring to the screen. I know we will truly win over America’s hearts and hopefully the world’s. It’ll show that go-gos are much more then eye candy. How did you get into go-go’ing? Max: My first time go-go dancing was about six years ago. My gym friend was flaunting all this cash. I had just finished school and I was in debt, working 50+ hours at a bagel bakery, living paycheck to paycheck and not making ends meet. I asked him how he was making all that money and he told me he would ride the bus up to Phoenix every weekend to go-go at Roscoe’s. I offered to drive him if he would help me get a spot. How was that first time on stage? Max: I had never touched a stripper pole before. And had never given a lap dance before. I think that’s why I was successful. The johns could smell I was fresh meat. What do you love most about go-go’ing? Max: Besides the fast cash and boost to my self-confidence, I truly love to dance and shake my booty. I adore meeting new people and making them feel welcome in a space that they might not be 100% comfortable in. I love smiling and giving my attention to someone who I can tell needs it. What’s the biggest misconception about go-go boys? Max: That we’re all the same! We are not! We each have our own identity and our own motivations. I never liked seeing someone empty their wallet for (con’t next page) MAY / JUN 2022

IONMOBILE 23

(con’t from p.23) a go-go I knew was ungrateful. Gay-for-pay boys have invaded our night life scene and it’s disappointing to see them fake a smile and then talk crap about the clients in the dressing room. What would winning the title of America’s next champion go-go superstar star mean to you? Max: It would validate my efforts and passion for this industry. Why should you win? Max: Because I have a big heart and I bring a sense of fun and quirkiness to the box that others can relate to. I never take dancing too seriously because, baby, at the end of the day, we just want to have fun. Go-go dancing is all about high energy and you know I don’t stop until the DJ stops. Who is your strongest competitor? Max: They’re all fierce, but I’d have to say Bryant Santos is amazing. Anyone who can kick to the moon and do splits in 10-inch heels, has me watching my back, for sure! What is something fans will be surprised to learn about you? Max: I’ll be celebrating my 8th veganiversary this November! Eating plant based and vegan is what has given me the energy I need to kick butt in anything I set my mind too. I love posting my cooking videos online on my YouTube channel. What would a film of your life be called, and who would star as you in it? Max: I honestly have no idea! I hope Meryl Streep plays my mom, though! What makes you smile? Max: Random stuff. I find when I’m watching a movie in a theatre, I’m always laughing at something different than the rest of the crowd. I think I’m just on a different wave length. Or perhaps it’s the ganja. You can never go wrong with an animal video where the little critters are doing something very human. What makes you angry? Max: Typically, I get angry with myself for not listening to my intuition or living in the moment. All we have is today. Final message to your hometown fans? Max: If you will something into existence, it will happen. You shape your reality!

Abbey Blab

The further adventures of how rich people suffer. From award-winning creator Julian Fellowes comes Downton Abbey: A New Era. The cinematic return of the soapy BBC/PBS melodrama is a big hit with the gays. The principal cast is reunited as they go on a grand journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the ancient Dowager Countess Violet Crawley’s, (Dame Maggie Smith) newly inherited villa. So, where did this pricey bit of real estate come from? The crotchety blue-blooded dame explains to her affable, somewhat dimwitted son Robert (Hugh Bonneville): “Years ago before you were born, I met a man...”. We all know how that story goes. The revelation that leaves sonny looking suitably stunned, Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess which is unusual for an English aristocrat unless you’re talking about cricket. Mum then goes on to reveal that the mysterious man has given her the villa. There might be more to Violet’s inheritance than meets the eye. Was Mummy a Victorian ‘ho? Expect lots of pithy one-liners. Meanwhile, the humpy Irishman and former chauffeur, widower Branson (Allen Leech) gets re-married. Tinseltown comes to the Abbey to film a newfangled “talkie.” What havoc will eternally jealous middle sister Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael)—the “Jan Brady”of the series—cause? Not to mention what mischief will everyone’s favorite pasty-faced closetcase, Thomas Barrow (Robert James-Collier), Laura Carmichael as Lady Edith the devious, horny, evil footman, stir up? The upstairs/downstairs drama continues. The “big reveal” will be the death of an iconic character. Can’t possibly imagine who it could be, can you? (See paragraphs one and two for .) Hustle your bustle to the theaters when the Crawleys carry on with a stiff upper lip on May 20.

Alyssa Edwards gets drop dead gorgeous for Phoenix. very woman has a secret. Mine just happens to be a little bigger. I’m a man.”

Drag queen. Pageant diva. Choreographer. Business person. Star. Justin Dwayne Lee Johnson hails from Mesquite, Texas where he owns Beyond Belief, a dance studio for youngsters. She was crowned Miss Gay USofA in 2006, and Miss Gay America in 2010, among other titles. Of course, we heard about that pesky scandal where First Alternate and her future RPDR contestant Coco Montrese replaced Edwards as the winner of Miss Gay America. The rivalry was revisited for the cameras. (“Girl! Look how fuckin’ orange you look! You got your Dorito fantasy!”) Edwards starred in season 5 of RuPaul’s Drag Race (sixth place), All Stars 2 (fifth place), and as a mentor in the 2020 four-episode event RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race where “celebrities” (we use the term very loosely) released their inner drag queen. RPDR judge Santino Rice called Edwards out for wearing what he called, “The worst dress in Drag Race history,” to which a miffed Alyssa retorted, “Santino, would you shut the fuck up with your no-drag-knowledge-mouth?” Edwards started her own YouTube web series, Alyssa’s Secret. (Well, we know what one of those “secrets” is) She also appeared in The Bachelorette. Johnson and his dance studio are the centerpieces of the 2018 Netflix docuseries, Dancing Queen, produced by RuPaul. In 2019, a panel of judges from New York magazine placed her fifth on their list of “the most powerful drag queens in America” in a ranking of 100 former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants. As Alyssa says, “Told ya, showed ya. Wrote a book, and throwed ya.” Not quite sure exactly what that means, but it sounds good. Like she says, “It’s not personal. It’s drag.” Nobody does it quite like she does. Bring your back rolls to see Alyssa Edwards! Thursday, June 9 at 8 p.m. The Van Buren 401 W.
