“Hotspots” are devices that allow access to the Internet using Wi-Fi technology.

How can I use the library’s hotspots?

These hotspots are intended for educational use, and may be used for accessing internet resources for school projects, homework, research, etc.

Hotspots may not be used for streaming video (e.g. YouTube or Netflix), as data is limited.

At this time there is both a daily and monthly maximum limit for data. Please contact JMRL with any questions about data.

Where can I use the library’s hotspots?

Service is not available in all locations, but this particular device serves the majority of the JMRL geographical service area.

A signed user agreement is required, and if patron is under 17 a parent or guardian must come in to sign.

The most important thing you can do to help your child be ready for Kindergarten is reading aloud to them. JMRL’s new 1000 Books Before Kindergarten can help you “Build A Reader.” Stop by any branch to pick up your first sheet for 50 books. After 50 books, turn in your sheet to receive a folder and be officially registered for the program.

After 100 books, you’ll receive a tote bag. Make it to 1000 books and you’ll receive a certificate and a free book.

Thursday, July 13 at 4pm Be a junior architect and engineer! Learn about compression and tension, strengthen a sponge beam with a knitting needle rod, and determine the toughest textile. Wednesday, June 14 at 6:30pm Local filmmaker and photographer, Lorenzo Dickerson, will discuss his documentary Color Line of Scrimmage (2016): the story of Charlottesville’s undefeated and unscored upon 1956 all AfricanAmerican Burley High School football team. Through interviews with former players, Dickerson examines this unprecedented championship season against the backdrop of racial segregation. A screening of the documentary will follow the lecture. Wednesdays at 10am June 7 - August 16 An early literacy class for babies and toddlers emphasizing simple concepts, patterns, and unconditional acceptance. This 20-minute activity includes books, songs, fingerplays, and flannel board stories.

READING ROCKS

Wednesdays at 10:30am June 7 - August 16 An independent activity for children ages 3-5. This 30 minute program introduces new concepts, increases vocabulary, improves listening skills, and promotes reading readiness. Program is followed by a tea party where siblings are invited to attend and engage in learning manners and hospitality.

SENSORY PLAY

Saturdays between 10am-1pm June 17 ∙ July 15 ∙ August 19 Captivate your little scientist with open-ended play which engages the senses. The children will explore bins containing a variety of sensory materials. For ages 1-3 with an accompanying caregiver. Older siblings welcome.

ONE-TIME EVENTS KNITTING 101

Tuesdays, June 6 & 13 at 6pm This two-session class with Maria Morell will introduce you to the creative, fun and relaxing world of knitting. Learn about different fibers, how to choose a project, how to cast on and how to knit a ROCKIN’ READERS basic garter stitch. Create a small phone or coffee Fourth Thursdays at 4pm cozy.
