ARTS CENTER PRESCHOOL ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN Introduce your child to a playful, innovative, and unique early learning experience. Openings are available in the Red Class, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00–11:15 a.m., and the Blue Class, Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., for children age three by September 1, 2014; and the Yellow Class, 4K, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., for children age four by September 1, 2014.

Children are immersed in a rich, multidisciplinary arts environment where creativity and imagination foster critical thinking skills through a curriculum aligned with Wisconsin Early Learning standards. They explore art in the galleries; people and places in their community; cultures around the world; and literacy, math, and science through the arts. They also experience music and creative movement inspired by the Footlights performing arts series. Limited scholarships are available.

FAMILY FESTIVALS

FAMILY WORKSHOP: PAPER PULP COLLAGE AGE 7+ (WITH AN ADULT) Saturday, October 18 1:00–3:00 p.m.

Roll up those sleeves and get ready to make a work of art with a medium that can’t be matched but can be mushed! Spend an afternoon with your loved ones making a sculptural, colorful collage that represents a place that is important to you.

Make more time for family, explore extraordinary cultures, and get to know your community better. This exciting series has fun for everyone and so many ways to join in! If you are interested in sharing your cultural traditions, we welcome your ideas.

ENGLAND Saturday, October 25, 2014 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Experience a traditional English pub or sample scones at an afternoon tea. England is brimming with rich cultural history, including its theatre, music, and monarchy. Come celebrate the culture and customs, food and fun, and learn from our community members who hail from across the pond.

LUXEMBOURG Saturday, January 17, 2015 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Celebrate one of the smallest of European nations, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The festival features performances by the Green Heart Dancers, the exhibit “Luxembourg–USA: A Migration Story” (previously displayed at Ellis Island), film, food, demonstrations, and more—thanks to the assistance of the Luxembourg American Cultural Society and Center.

YOUTH CLASSES YOUTH SILK PAINTING—AGE 8–14 Saturday, November 8 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Turn a plain, white, silk scarf into a colorful, expressive accessory!

Use ordinary objects such as corks and bottle caps in combination with silk dyeing techniques to create something extraordinary. All students will leave with at least one dyed piece.

Put together a little flour, butter, sugar, egg, and a few other key ingredients, add a lot of love and laughter, and what do you get?

A warm kitchen, mouthwatering aromas, and tasty treats to satisfy the sweet tooth in all of us!

TEEN CLASSES INTRODUCTION TO GLASSWORK—AGE 13–17 Saturday–Sunday, September 27–28 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Enter the fascinating world of kiln-forming glass techniques, which are among the most expressive and easiest in the medium. Participants will cut glass, fuse flat pieces of glass together, and slump glass pieces into or over molds. No glass experience is required.

BUILDING STORIES—GRADES 7–12 Saturdays, November 15–December 20 (No class November 29) 12:00–3:30 p.m.

Everyone has a story to tell! Students will enhance their understanding of storytelling and acting, working with classmates to develop characters and explore plot, all while gaining confidence in bringing their stories to life!

YOUTH DANCE SCHOOL-YEAR PROGRAM REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!

Youth Dance orientation will occur the week of September 9. Classes begin the week of September 16 and run through mid-May 2015.

The Arts Center’s Youth Dance program encourages the love of movement and builds physical confidence in children age 3–14.

Classes span a range of styles and techniques, from early childhood creative movement to traditional ballet to modern dance to ethnic fusion.

Students develop confidence in their physical, social, performance, and creative skills in these fun-filled classes culminating in a stellar springtime performance on the Arts Center’s stage. Students work September through May in small classes with instructors dedicated to ensuring that attention is paid to each individual’s skill development. Many classes have live musical accompaniment.

TUESDAY CLASSES September 16, 2014–May 2015 INTRODUCTION TO CREATIVE MOVEMENT—AGE 3–4 3:15–3:45 p.m.

Your child will enjoy creative movement, including dance, yoga, tumbling, stage etiquette, and acting out stories in the dance studio and on stage in the Theatre. Children will build confidence as they develop body awareness, rhythm, balance, and motor skills.

Tuition: $270 for the dance year ($155 per installment) Member: $245 for the dance year ($146 per installment) PRE-BALLET—AGE 4–6 3:45–4:30 p.m.

Pre-ballet aims to instill a love of dance in children by introducing creative movement, rhythm techniques, and ballet class etiquette.

BALLET I—AGE 6–8 4:45–5:30 p.m.

Students continue the dance journey with the introduction of barre work, which strengthens coordination and rhythm.

Young dancers expand on techniques learned in Ballet I and are introduced to more advanced steps.

THURSDAY CLASSES September 18, 2014–May 2015 BALLET III—AGE 8–10 3:45–4:30 p.m.

Ballet III includes traditional ballet techniques while introducing modern dance techniques that broaden the young dancer’s movement repertoire.

Instructor: Molly King Tuition: $350 for the dance year ($190 per installment) Member: $310 for the dance year ($170 per installment) ADVANCED BALLET/BEGINNING MODERN—AGE 10–13 4:30–5:15 p.m.

Students are given a chance to become more individually expressive through movement while continuing their growth in ballet and modern dance techniques.

Instructor: Molly King Tuition: $350 for the dance year ($190 per installment) Member: $310 for the dance year ($170 per installment) MODERN/JAZZ/HIP-HOP—AGE 10–13 5:15–6:00 p.m.

Dancers learn the basic techniques of modern, jazz, and hip-hop dance and move to fresh beats!

YOUTH DANCE ORIENTATION September 9, 5:00–6:00 p.m.

September 11, 6:30–7:30 p.m.

All dance students and families are required to attend one Youth Dance orientation. If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled orientations, you must contact Jen Balge or Angela Ramey, Youth Dance program coordinators, to schedule an alternative date and time.

YOUTH DANCE REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT Dance students may pay for the entire dance year in one lump sum or in two installments. If you elect to use the installment plan, a credit card authorization form must be completed at the time of registration. The second installment will be processed on January 2, 2015. Students who pay in full receive a tuition discount. Tuition is nonrefundable except in the event of class cancellation or serious injury or illness. Requests for refunds or credits due to injury or illness must be made in writing and accompanied by a doctor’s certificate. Refunds will be prorated.

Scholarships are available.

If a class does not meet minimum enrollment, it may be rescheduled or canceled. Rehearsals and the spring dance recital will take place in May. Tuition includes one DVD of the recital and a costume fee.

THE ARTERY Stop by, drop in, and make art! The ARTery is a free, all ages, art-making space at the Arts Center! Projects are inspired by the works in the galleries and are collaborative, large-scale installations that grow with each participating visitor. Add your art to the mix, and leave your mark at the Arts Center!

JEWELRY CLASSES FOR TEENS AND ADULTS METALSMITHING: FACETED STONE SETTING—AGE 14–ADULT Tuesdays, September 23–October 28 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Learn to set faceted stones using tube, closed-back prong, and altered bezel settings. This intermediate class requires that students are comfortable with bezel setting.

Instructor: Susan Richter-O’Connell Tuition: (silver is additional) $80 ($70 member) TERRARIUM JEWELRY—AGE 14–ADULT Sunday, October 12 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Create a unique, miniature scene (out of polymer clay) under glass to wear on a chain that will have all your friends talking.

Instructor: Laura Rehorst Tuition: $80 ($70 member) METALSMITHING: ENAMELED BEAD BUILDING AGE 14–ADULT Tuesdays, November 4–18 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Create a spectacular sampling of rolled enamel beads using copper wire and copper strips. Beginners welcome!

CLASSES, WORKSHOPS, AND STUDIOS FOR TEENS AND ADULTS CHARCOAL AND PENCIL DRAWING FOR BEGINNERS AGE 14–ADULT Tuesdays, September 16–October 7 6:00–8:00 p.m.

This drawing class is for you whether you are drawing for the first time or refreshing old skills. Explore fundamental drawing skills such as shading, controlling tones, and composition, among other drawing techniques.

Instructor: Agata Augustine Tuition: $55 ($50 member) PLEIN AIR WATERCOLORS—AGE 14–ADULT Saturdays, October 4, 11, and 25 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

Be inspired by the world around you as you learn the fundamentals of watercolor painting, including wash and brush technique, color mixing, and design.

LEATHER CUFF ONE–DAY WORKSHOP—AGE 14–ADULT Saturday, November 8 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Make a cool cuff to adorn your wrist! Learn the basics of working with vegetable-tanned cowhide in the Sheridan style. Learn techniques such as designing, cutting, stamping, dyeing, and edge finishing. No experience necessary.

Instructor: Kenneth Sager Tuition: $25 ($20 member)

SILK PAINTING EXPERIMENTATION—AGE 14–ADULT Saturday, November 15 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Workshop participants will experiment with variations on the shibori method of painting and dyeing cloth.

Scrunching, pleating, twisting, and wrapping using a variety of everyday objects will be used to create texture on a one-of-a-kind silk masterpiece!

STAINED GLASS—AGE 14–ADULT Thursdays, November 6–20 5:30–7:00 p.m.

No previous experience is needed for this class! Participants will learn glass cutting, pattern preparation, foiling, and soldering in the course of creating a stained glass panel.

Whether just beginning or looking to continue a journey with clay, this open studio presents an opportunity to learn and experiment while working on your own projects. All levels welcome!

Explore techniques for painting on glass while creating a unique piece of art. No previous experience required.

COOKING CLASSES PICKLING AND CANNING—AGE 14–ADULT Thursdays, September 18 and 25 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Pickling of foods has been around since the ancient Romans and Egyptians and is practiced throughout the world. You can pickle just about anything! This hands-on class will take the mystery out of this age-old food preservation technique.

VEGAN COOKING BASICS—AGE 14–ADULT Sunday, October 19 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Join vegan cook and Cheap Eats for the Green Bean blogger Samantha Krohn in exploring the basics of a plant-based diet. Learn what staples to keep in the pantry and tasty recipes to use them.

REGISTRATION POLICY

Advanced registration is required for most classes and workshops. Early registration is advised as classes and workshops can fill quickly. Places are held only upon receipt of full tuition. Tuition is refundable (unless noted) minus a $15 processing fee per class up to seven days before a class is to begin. Tuition is nonrefundable after that time unless class limits are reached or a program is canceled. Prospective students are encouraged to sign up early as classes without a minimum number of students may be canceled. Supplies and equipment costs are included in the tuition unless otherwise noted.
