01 ResidentialVillas A Conceptual Design Coordinator: Thomas Lopez-Gottardi Year: Fall 2022 - Present Collaborator: Thomas Lopez-Gottardi Working under Professor Gottardi’s team, I was tasked with reconstructing and assisting in designing a set of conceptual villas for a future architecture design workbook. This is an ongoing series with about 30 marvelous future villas. A set of drawings and renders that will continue to be developed and designed moving forward. The essential concept behind the set of villas we are designing is how we can use environmental factors such as nature and water to not only create a sustainable environment but also become a luxurious living space. Forming the villas around a large body of water created a grand central area, allowing for the rooms to be circulated along the pool, creating a courtyard-like space, only with water. These large-scale villas also allow for a large garden rooftop which serves as a significant part of the drawings as it is not only cooled by the water and nature but allows for a unique villa design.

02 Campo Analysis Digital Reconstruction Coordinator: Adib Cure Year: Fall 2023 Collaborator: Matthew Jarmon Campo Analysis: Campo dei Gesuiti

We were given the task of studying, comprehending, and visually representing one from a list of pre-selected campi in order to begin analyzing the urban fabric of Venice. The reason we selected Campo dei Gesuiti was because of its unique and narrow shape, its relationship to the neighboring streets and environmental features, and its diverse range of building styles. By examining this campo, we gained a better understanding of Venetian typology, scale, and the many ways a space can shape the pedestrian experience as one moves through it. Furthermore, we analyzed a variety of Venetian buildings ranging from a typical apartment home to important civic buildings such as the grand Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta detta I Gesuiti. Overall this project provided, through drawing, a better grasp of the language of venetian architecture and its urban and environmental principles.

03 Venezia Minore An Urban Master Plan Coordinator: Adib Cure Year: Fall 2023 Collaborator: Mathew Jarmon, Bianca Bernstein, Deigo Zubillaga This proposal is a proposition for a new residential neighborhood and a contemporary exhibition center on the Island of Sant’Elena. As architects, we were encouraged to maintain, adapt, and reuse all building structures older than fifty years existing within the area. We closely considered the compositional manifestations of public spaces and their interrelation with street patterns and the surrounding residential typologies, as well as specific responses to the presence of water, their scale and dimensions. ‘Venezia Minore’ was named for its English translation: ‘Venice Minor’ or rather, ‘Little Venice.’ This title captures the essence of the design as it incorporates several vernacular elements native to Venice and stitches them together in a charming and enchanting way. Such is the character of Venice.

04 Center for the Arts An Adaptive Reuse Coordinator: Adib Cure Year: Fall 2023 Collaborator: Mathew Jarmon The task of this project is to develop a Venetian Contemporary Exhibition Center, adapting for reuse of the largest historical structures and adjacent open-air public areas on the north end of the Urban Vision Plan at the Island of Sant‘ Elena. The brick warehouses are a significant testimony of light industrial structures in Venice at the turn of the XIX century. The structures were part of the complex of facilities where public vaporetos (water buses) were repaired and maintained. Venezia Minore: Center for the Arts‘ does not just refer to the exhibition center, but the whole of the proposed neighborhood that the adaptive reuse project resides within. The urban vision plan was designed with two things in mind: creating a feeling of a miniature Venice within itself, and establishing the neighborhood as a cultural and intellectual hub. It is host to several levels of academia with three schools and has its own concert hall (the civic building in the center). The focus on creating spaces for cultural exchange was inspired by the stadium and several other shops catering towards the arts in the already existing neighborhood of Sant‘ Elena.

Lincoln Road Garage 05 1111 w/ KOMA Digital Reconstruction Coordinator: ZegharYasmine Year: Fall 2022 Collaborator: Luisa Maria Hernandez Arboleda

Designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, 1111 Lincoln Road is a modern and luxury property that brings together office, retail, and parking all under one amazing structure. Jacques Herzog was inspired the Tropical Modernism and modern movement in Brazil. It is an open structure providing shade and each floor stands over a set of irregular columns, giving a sense of equilibrium and balance and character to the facade. The New York Times has labeled parking garages “the grim afterthought of American design”. But Wennett was determined to do something different and interviewed ten well-known architects around the globe before choosing Herzog & de Meuron. Construction began in 2008 and entailed closing the western end of Lincoln Road Mall.

SEVERAL CIRCLES

PHASE ONE

KOMA is a design inspired by the painting “Several Circles” by Wassily Kadinsky who adopted certain aspects of the utopian artistic experiments of the Russian vangarde and placed an emphasis on geometric shapes. The importance of the circles in this screen is based on that cosmic and harmonious image. “The circle,” stated Kandinsky, “is the synthesis of the greatest oppositions. It combines the concentric and the eccentric in a single form and in balance. Of the three primary forms, it most clearly points to the fourth dimension.” That is why an abstract work like this looks like a group of planets in harmonious orbit through the cosmos. Planets of various colors and sizes dialogue and overlap to get an image of the universe.

06 Model Building Additional Work Coordinator: Studio Professor Year: Fall 2022 - Present Collaborator: Studio Class Building physical models in architecture is incredibly beneficial and successful to the design process. When designing I tend to instantly use model building to lead my design as it provides a tangible representation of ideas, allowing myself to have a better understanding of spatial relationships, proportions, and scale. Using different materials such as foam, wood, and even 3D printing, I can experiment with textures, colors, and structural elements, gaining insights into how these factors interact within the design. Allowing myself to present a clear visualization of concepts compared to just digital renderings alone. This also leads to innovative solutions and problem-solving when trying to determine a direction in the design process, being a significant tool in the design world.

St. Augustine Urban Design

Working under professor Astigarraga, in an urban design studio, I was tasked with leading a group of students in designing and modeling an urban master plan, located in St. Augustine Florida. Using a mixture of wood and 3D printing filament I was able to handcraft a master plan to have a better representation of the site we have successfully designed. This beautiful model allowed myself and my team to continue to carve spaces within the site and have a better understanding of how to design a large-scale master plan for future projects to come. This became one of my first successful physically built models.

Venezia Minore

Working under Professor Adib Cure, in a Venice-styled studio, we were tasked with designing our own Venetian urban master plan, located in Sant’ Elena Venice, Italy. My team and I went through many variations of this plan, using 3D printing and hand-crafted wood to assist us in solving design problems and coming up with creative solutions to solve any planning issue we may have faced. Designing and modeling this precise master plan allowed us to take a closer look at the spatial relationships we were creating and allowed for the physical model to assist us in shaping “Venezia Minore.”

Center for the Arts

The second phase of the Venetian-styled studio, was an adaptive reuse design of an existing warehouse turned into a grand museum “Center for the Arts.” This fully 3D-printed design allowed myself to take the next step in physical model-making by diving into a large, detailed structure and finding innovative ways to represent my design. Many variations were made of this adaptive reuse building, allowing not only for the structure itself to form but also to continue developing the intricate details that would soon be the staple of this design. Finally coming to a marvelous model that was able to represent every detail of the “Center for the Arts.”
