It is with great excitement that I sit down to write this welcome. With the optimism, shortage of cattle numbers, and demand for Canadian beef that we are seeing, one has no choice but to be proud and excited to be apart of this great industry that feeds the world! It has been a longtime coming to see the success, reward, and stability that all the hard working cattle producers and families are witnessing. Continued success will mean the continuation and growth that has been united between the cow/calf producer, the feedlot, and the packer, to show the economy and the world, our dedication to produce a high quality, safe, and a #1 protein product! The family dynamics and work ethic that it takes for many of us to run our operations, is paying off. There will always be obstacles to face year to year, whether it be disease, drought, or government, but as we unite closer to each other with every challenge, the determination is what rewards us all!

We feel our role in this puzzle, is to produce stout made, big topped, sound structured beef bulls, that will help the commercial cattleman’s, and our customers cattle, get to the next level! With that said, we need to cull hard on feet and legs, docility, udder structures, and overall lack of quality that make them less desirable for today’s industry. Through an extensive AI and embryo transplant program, along with a powerful set of herd bulls, we shoot for greater consistency and higher quality in offspring, leaving us with sons to offer the industry, that will do the same. Our cow herd which consists of about 250 cows, 80 of which calve in our summer program, are not pampered! They graze for around 8 months of the year, never receive an ounce of grain, and are intended to work for us, rather than us for them! The bulls on offer are raised on a high forage ration consisting of silage, haylage, chopped hay, and a pellet, and they are forced to get ample exercise to get from feed, to water and to a bed pack. Our goal is to develop these bulls into “breeding pieces,” not to finish them! All bulls will be semen tested prior to the sale, and scrotals and weights will be available sale day.

We have now sold purebred seed stock and more importantly breeding bulls for over 40 years! We will work hard to earn your business, but even harder to keep it. From one cattleman to another, you can put your trust in us, as we are not only working for you, but also working with you in the seed stock business. We are a family based operation and the same people you discuss your bull needs with, are the same people who do the day to day operations on the ranch. If by chance you have an issue with something purchased from us, we want to be the first to hear about it. We will do our utmost to create a win-win with all our customers.

This year’s offer consists of about 100 bulls, smaller birth weight bulls for heifers, and high performance bulls for cows. 25 of these bulls are born in our summer program and are oriented for earlier breeding, to cover more cows, and to express the importance we put on letting these bulls grow at a natural pace and not stuffing them! Our program has always been generated around calving ease sires and cows that have performance genetics! This means less management for us, and our customers come calving period, and more dollars in all are jeans come sale day! As mentioned earlier, we are really striving on using AI and embryo transplant to add consistency and better quality. You will see throughout the catalogue that certain sires have been used intensively and certain cow families show up numerous times! This has really pushed our program forward, leaving us a better offering for the sale, and a better set of cows coming into the herd yearly. We use the show ring as a marketing tool to show the commercial cattleman what we have on offer at home. We sell a select group of females each year, we are constantly trying to acquire new and improved phenotypes and genotypes, and it is rewarding to market embryos and semen worldwide. Again this year, is that all of the bulls have been LEPTIN & PMCH tested, and their carcass EPDS and percentiles are also presented in the catalogue as another tool in selection. Many of the bulls have been tested for the homozygous polled and black genes as well, and more bulls will have results on supplement sheet come sale day.

The sale will once again be held at the ranch 10 miles west of Carstairs. The bulls and heifers are available for viewing on the farm anytime, as there is always someone around to give a tour and talk cattle. On February 18 there will be viewing all day, and please join us for supper and refreshments to follow. Cattle will be penned outside, so dress for the weather, and keep in mind it will be dark before supper! We also extend a warm invite to join us for a beef lunch prior to sale, and stick around after for hospitality and supper! Mader Ranches have their entire cow herd on an integrated and comprehensive health and production management program. This program is based on the detailed collection of data on each individual animal at all key health and production points. This information is kept in a secure web-enabled database called HerdtraxTM and is continually monitored and audited by the managing veterinarians at Cow/Calf Health and Management Services (CCHMS).

Terms & Conditions

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par.

Settlement to be made immediately after the completion of the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made with the clerk of the sale before any cattle will be released. All monies are in Canadian funds.

BIDS: Every animal entering the sale ring will be sold to the highest bidder.

DISPUTES: In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to any such announcements.

INSURANCE: Will be available sale day. Animals become the property of the buyer as soon as sold. Bulls to be wintered must be insured.

SHIPPING: Assistance will be given in arranging trucking after the sale but no risk is assumed by the Auctioneer or Seller.

Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser.

Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement. If you need assistance please contact the seller.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: Registration or recordation papers will be transferred to the new owner if requested at time of payment. Cattle will not be transferred until paid for in full.

SEMEN RESERVE: The seller reserves the right to draw semen on any bull in the sale for in herd use only at the cost of the seller and prior to delivery.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, nor the auctioneer assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

LIABILITIES: All persons attending the sale do so at their own risk and sellers assume no liability, legal, or otherwise, for any accidents occurring in or about the premises.

EXPORT TESTING: Required health certificates for cattle being exported will be provided.

BREEDING GUARANTEE: All animals are guaranteed to be satisfactory breeders in accordance with the respective breed association bylaws. No guarantee is given a bull’s semen will freeze. Any female that is subject to embryo transplant shall cause this guarantee to be null and void. Guarantee does not apply to animals who after the sale are not properly handled and cared for, or injured or sick. They cannot be returned to us if not in a sound, healthy condition. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal.

RIGHTS & OBLIGATIONS: The above terms & conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer & seller & be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction & the rights & obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms & conditions of this sale. In the event of default on any part of the terms & conditions covering this sale by either the buyer or the seller, it shall be the responsibility of the buyer or the seller to investigate any action necessary to bring about a fair settlement of any claims arising from this sale and to be responsible for any & all costs involved therein.
