• Members must work one 5 hour shift during Holiday Shoppes • Members must sell 5 tickets @ $5 each • Members who sell 10 tickets @$5 each will receive free admission to holiday party (excluding drinks) • The top 3 members who sell the most tickets (minimum sold of 30 tickets) will receive free dues Tickets and Staffing forms will be available at the GMM’s. Any member who needs to purchase tickets outside of the GMM’s can contact Dawn. Please try to re-sell your tickets to other members of the community before the

weekend of the event, because we would like to get an even higher attendance number than last year, and our JLS members are the best advocates for our event!

So far we have 135 booths filled and 98 merchants attending. In addition to all of our returning merchants, we have many new vendors participating in this years event. We are still accepting merchants, and we love to get new merchants to sign up! If you know of anyone who would consider being a merchant or a sponsor for our event, please have them contact us.

SUSTAINER ANNUAL Pie MAking

Happy Fall!

By now most of you have likely settled into your regular post-Summer routines and are beginning to think about the holidays. Holiday Shoppes, Pie Baking, and the JLS Holiday Party will be upon us soon and I hope to see many of you at these events.

It was a beautiful day for golf at Drumlin’s on September 15th, where we had 16 golfers in attendance and 16 more for dinner.

Thanks to Anne Miller, Susan Cronin, and Jeanne Jackson for coordinating this event once again!

On Thursday, October 9th at 9:30 am, we are scheduled to hear a presentation by Nancy Fasoldt of The Post-Standard. We will have coffee and pastries in the ballroom at the JLS office while learning how to register and enjoy the digital version of the daily newspaper on a laptop or tablet. The class involves a demonstration on both platforms. Please be sure to RSVP to the office by Monday, October 6th.

I am still accepting ideas for Lunch ‘N Learns, so feel free to email me with your suggestions.

Thank you to Cheryl Ward for volunteering to help me with correspondence this year. Several of you offered to help and I appreciate the support.

We continue to have a nice turnout at our monthly R&R’s at the new Pascale Bistro at Drumlins. Hope to see you there on the last Tuesday of every month.

Our annual pie making event will be held again this year at the Blessed Sacrament Parish Center in Eastwood on Saturday, December 6 from 9 am – Noon. Come and enjoy some holiday service to benefit the Rescue Mission and reconnect with your JLS Sustainer friends. Watch your mail for an invitation.

Community Collaborations In June, JLS entered its second year with the Human Trafficking issue. As the Community Council plans and executes events and activities for League members, fighting Human Trafficking in Central New York will continue to be the focus.

The Community Collaborations Co-Chairs, Cheryl Saidel and Beth Edwards, have mapped out a comprehensive plan for the year with themes for each month, collaboration activities, and donations.

The September theme was “Hunger Awareness,” and members stayed after the GMM to package food donations and HT awareness materials for the Assumption Food Pantry. Through our donations to the Assumption Food Pantry, we are fighting the desperation that can lead to Human Trafficking.

The Public Policy Lead, Kerry Buske, recently attended the HT Task Force meeting and reports that the issue continues to occur in Central New York. As such, we look forward to NYSPAC’s (New York State Public Affairs Committee) next steps in Albany and will be as involved as possible.

The Community Council invites all League members to volunteer to lead or participate in our activities, including Collaborations, donation prep after GMM’s, or attending Task Force meetings. Community’s plan for this year is quite ambitious, and we need YOUR help!

New member class will begin in Oct. • Holiday Shoppes staffing forms and tickets are available tonight and at the October GMM, 100 merchants signed on to date • Guest Speaker – City Court Judge Theodore H. Limpert (Criminal Courts Building): Discussed the history, current state, and future of HT court.
