WELCOME TO 2016-2017! Welcome to the 2016-2017 Junior League year! While it may traditionally be quiet during the League summer, this year preparations for the year kickoff at the September GMM are already underway. We started the year with an amazing Leadership Training and Planning Retreat on June 25th. Sixteen women joined together to be trained for their roles, share ideas, and think strategically about the upcoming year. We are excited to share our goals and are looking forward to trying new ways to engage members, impact the community, and advance the mission of the Junior League of Syracuse. I hope that you will share our excitement and commitment to continue to improve our

community. In addition, I hope you will personalize the JLS mission to find a way to get the most out of your membership and develop your potential! I am honored to be involved in the leadership of another great League year and look forward to serving the Board, Leadership Team, and Members. Please feel free to always contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. Contact the President:

We aim to continue this engagement by connecting new members' strengths to current members during GMMs and volunteer and social events during the year.

COMMUNITY The Community Collaborations Committee is excited to embark on this upcoming 2016-2017 year. As a committee, our goal for any collaboration (community volunteer opportunity) is to support at-risk families in atrisk situations. Our focus areas include: women & children, hunger and education. While planning and executing several events, it is important that these collaborations forward our mission and vision. Though early in the planning stages, the Community Collaborations Committee commits to have at least one volunteer event a month, including a week-long series of events during “National Volunteer Week” in April. These opportunities include Rescue Mission, Little White House of Hope, My Sister’s Closet, and school supplies and toiletries drives. Volunteer events will begin by the end of September. These collaborations are even more successful when League members come out and participate. Please watch SeeingSpot and email blasts for dates and times.

SUSTAINER NEWS On the international, national and local levels, the Junior League has evolved over recent decades to reflect changes in society and in the interests of each generation of new members. The JLS is fortunate to have a Sustainer membership that includes women who experienced several stages of this evolution. With that in mind, the following

goals are proposed for the 20162017 year: • Continue traditional social events: the annual golf outing and dinner, monthly R and R gatherings and Spring Cocktail Party to give members the opportunity to catch up with current news, revisit shared experiences, and discuss new ideas.

• Continue community service event of making pies for holiday meals served at the Rescue Mission. • Continue participation in the annual Holiday Shoppes. • Explore potential activities that are both fun and educational through a survey of m e m b e r interests, preferred discussion topics, and event times. COMMUNICATIONS The Communications Council is excited for a great 2016-2017 JLS year! Communications Council chairs started the League year at the June 25 Leadership Training and Planning Retreat. Work at the chair and committee level is continuing throughout the summer to prepare for the busy fall (and year!) ahead. Included in the council’s goals for 2016-2017: •Increase the visibility of the Junior League of Syracuse mission, vision, and supporting

activities through the JLS’ communications platforms, including our website, social media sites, public relations and marketing efforts, and more; •Tailor the news and information presented to active and sustaining members through internal JLS communications including email blasts, the members’ website, and the NOTES. •Propose and implement a strategy to manage and archive the JLS’ digital photo inventory.

If your council or committee has a news item, upcoming event, or other noteworthy happening,

the Communications team wants to make sure League members (and others) know about it! A new tool will be unveiled this fall that will streamline the process of requesting Communications coverage and support. Watch upcoming issues of the NOTES for updates from the JLS’ PR and Social Media Committees, Tech Team, and NOTES Editor. Contact Communications VP:
