JLB has a new logo!

The Junior League of Beaumont wants to add to our currently used red column logo and include this new addition in our brand package. This helps our local and national network identify our commitment to Southeast Texas. This new logo was chosen because it is sleek, modern, bold, and transitional. It represents a group of women that are diverse, strong, classy, and friendly.
The JLB is proud of its affiliation with other Junior Leagues and is even more proud to be part of the Beaumont Community and to advance women’s leadership through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.
Letter from the President
Dear Members and Supporters of the Junior League of Beaumont,
What an incredible start to 2025! As we leave the chill of winter behind, the energy of spring is in full swing for the JLB. We are kicking off the season with all eyes on our Stars for our 9th Annual Dancing with the Stars of Southeast Texas—a night that brings together some of our community’s most esteemed public figures and talented dance studios. This signature event not only raises critical funds for our mission but also unites us with people who share our deep love for Southeast Texas. A heartfelt thank you to our Stars and the incredible DWTS Committee for putting on a show to remember. We are already looking forward to celebrating a decade of dancing next year!
Meanwhile, our Community Project committees have been hard at work, strengthening partnerships and making a direct impact. From hosting donation drives— including a much-needed post-holiday food drive for Market to Hope—to preparing for our Spring Service Day on April 5, the spirit of service remains strong. I encourage all of our members to participate and witness the power of collective action! Our Community Council continues to shine, creating fresh opportunities for both our members and our partners, while our Provisionals are making great strides toward their big project and proving themselves as true assets to the League and the community.
As we look ahead, we know our work is only possible with dedicated women who believe in service and leadership. If you— or someone you know—are interested
in joining a network of women committed to making a difference, we’d love to welcome you! Whether you’re looking for community involvement, new friendships, professional growth, or leadership development, there’s a place for you in the JLB. Applications for the upcoming League year (beginning June 1) are open until April 15, and you can apply at www. juniorleaguebeaumont.org/join.
Internally, we are also gearing up for Placement, where each member will find her next opportunity to serve within the League. There is something for everyone! Additionally, we are thrilled to introduce our new Leadership Academy, providing members with specialized nonprofit training that will not only strengthen our organization but also empower our women to lead across the community.
As we celebrate the achievements of the past months, we also look forward to the opportunities ahead. On behalf of the entire Junior League of Beaumont, I want to extend my sincere gratitude for your support and dedication. It is because of YOU that we continue to advance women’s leadership and create meaningful, lasting change in our community.
With gratitude,

MISSION STATEMENT
The Junior League of Beaumont is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.
Main Street Market:
Holiday Magic, Community Spirit, and Lasting Connections
The two purse raffle winners from Main Street Market (MSM) were Teresa Anderson and Skylar Spencer.
This year MSM added a new event, the Mrs. Claus Experience. The committee had such a great time planning this event and working on new features for the shoppers to experience the market in a new way.
Of course, there cannot be a market without incredible vendors! Dharma Wellness Med Spa enjoyed reconnecting with familiar faces, while Lolli B’s Custom Cookies cherished the experience of welcoming loyal customers who returned just to shop with them.
Karlee Ogden says, “Not only have I grown professionally from my experiences while on the MSM committee but I have also formed lasting relationships with some of the most amazing women in JLB. It has been wonderful to work beside other women who truly care about their community and put their all into this organization.”

Jessica Thevis says, “Nothing could have quite prepared me for how much work goes into MSM. Every person on the committee plays a vital role to its success but it is truly a team effort. It was hard work and long days but I had so much fun working alongside an amazing group of people. I feel the experience brought me some lasting connections within JLB.”
Alisha Williams says, “The holiday season has always been my favorite time of the year. There’s something truly magical about the twinkling lights, the festive spirit, and the warmth of giving back. My first year with the

MSM Committee was a beautiful reminder of how service, connection, and community can bring so much joy—not just to others, but also to ourselves.”
“Volunteering my time with MSM allowed me to work alongside an incredible group of dedicated Junior League members. It was more than just an event; it was an experience filled with teamwork, laughter, and a shared passion for making a difference. Seeing the excitement on people’s faces as they shopped, supported local businesses, and embraced the holiday spirit reminded me why I love this time of year so much.”
“Through every moment—whether it was helping vendors, interacting with customers, or simply witnessing the generosity of our community—I felt a renewed sense of purpose. Giving back is not just about service; it’s about creating lasting connections, uplifting those around us, and embracing the true meaning of the season.”
“As I reflect on this experience, I am reminded that joy is often found in the moments we share, the kindness we extend, and the love we pour into our communities. This is why I joined the Junior League to give back, make a difference, and spread kindness, not just during the holiday season but all year round. Because in the end, the greatest gift we can give is our heart.”
Main Street Market is always a spectacular event that brings people together to embrace and enjoy the holiday season. Congratulations to our committee this year on their hard work resulting in another successful market!

mix iT up: unlocking THe power of Your STand mixer
If sitting still with a book or crochet hook isn’t your thing, don’t worry—there’s another way to embrace a classic “granny hobby” with a modern twist. That stand mixer sitting on your counter? It’s not just for cookies and cakes. With the right attachments, it can roll out homemade pasta and ravioli, grind and mince meats for the freshest burgers, and even spiralize, dice, julienne, and peel your favorite veggies. Want to take your baking to the next level? Use it to grind your own flour, keeping all the nutrients while skipping the processed stuff. And if fresh juice sounds more your speed, your stand mixer can handle that too. Whether you’re kneading, chopping, or juicing, this kitchen workhorse is ready to help you mix things up!

From flipping pages to stitching memories and mixing up something delicious, hobbies at home can take many forms. But if you’d rather nurture something that grows, why not bring a little greenery indoors—with a modern twist? You don’t need a backyard—or even a green thumb—to grow fresh herbs, veggies, and flowers year-round. Thanks to modern hydroponic systems like the Smart Garden 9 Pro or Gardyn, anyone can cultivate a thriving indoor garden with minimal effort. These smart systems use water-based growing methods, builtin LED lights, and automated nutrient delivery to take the guesswork out of plant care. Whether you’re harvesting basil for homemade pesto, snipping fresh lettuce for salads, or just enjoying the beauty of greenery in your home, hydroponic gardening makes it easy to bring nature indoors—no soil, mess, or stress required. It’s a perfect way to blend traditional gardening with modern convenience, proving that even the most classic hobbies can get a high-tech upgrade.

SPRING 2025 EDITION

Grandma always knew best—whether it was the perfect way to fold a pie crust, the magic of a handmade afghan, or the joy of nurturing a windowsill full of thriving plants. Lately, more and more women are embracing the comfort and creativity of classic “granny hobbies,” finding peace in slow, simple, and satisfying pastimes. This month, we’re celebrating the art of cozy living, from the books the women of the Junior League of Beaumont are reading to the soothing rhythm of looping yard, the secret to happy houseplants, and all the unexpected ways to put a stand mixer to work. So, pour a cup of tea, grab a skein, and settle in—it’s time to bring back the hobbies that never should have gone out of style. a blankeT of bookS

Why just read your books when you can stitch them into something beautiful? Crocheting granny squares inspired by the color palettes of the books you read is a fun way to blend literary love with handmade charm. Whether it’s the soft blues and greens of The House in the Cerulean Sea, the deep, moody tones of Society of Lies, or the warm neutrals of Crucial Accountability, each square becomes a little piece of your reading journey. By the end of the year, you’ll have not just a collection of stories but a cozy, one-of-a-kind blanket that tells its own tale—one stitch at a time.

OUR GOAL IS SIMPLE: TO CREATE A SPACE THAT FOSTERS COMFORT, RESPECT, AND PRIDE. A SPACE WHERE THE WOMEN WHO SERVE CAN FEEL ENERGIZED, CONFIDENT, AND READY TO TAKE ON THE WORLD!” BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR UPDATES AND WISH LISTS TO HELP BRING THIS PROJECT TO LIFE!

HEALTHY behaviors
The Healthy Behaviors Committee recently extended its support to the Beaumont community through several impactful donations. This committee provided new physical education (PE) equipment to Fletcher Elementary, encouraging students to engage in active play and develop healthy habits.

In addition to supporting local schools, Healthy Behaviors demonstrated its The Healthy Behaviors Committee Demonstrates Commitment to Community commitment to community wellbeing by donating a pallet of water to Market to Hope. This contribution will help ensure that individuals in need have access to clean and refreshing drinking water. These generous donations reflect Healthy Behaviors’ ongoing dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting the well-being of individuals in the Beaumont community.
Recognizing the vital role teachers play in shaping young minds, Healthy Behaviors also donated a variety of snacks for teachers to distribute to
students at Bob Hope School in Beaumont. These nutritious snacks will help students stay focused and energized throughout the school day.

Blueberry Arugula Herb Salad
Ingredients:
For the quick pickled red onions:
• 1 small red onion, halved and sliced into thin slivers
• 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
• 2 teaspoons sugar
• ⅛ teaspoon salt
For the Honey Mustard Lemon Dressing:
• ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
• 2½ tablespoons honey
• 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
• 1 tablespoon grainy Dijon mustard
• 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
• ½ teaspoon kosher salt
• ¼ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
For the salad:
• 5 ounces baby arugula
• 2½ cups fresh herb leaves
• ½ small head radicchio, torn in bite-size pieces (optional)
• ½ medium seedless cucumber, usually plastic-wrapped
• 1 cup fresh blueberries
• ¼ cup Easy Candied Pecans, or to taste
• ¼ cup crumbled goat cheese, optional
• pansies or other edible flowers for garnish, optional
Instructions:
For the quick pickled red onions:
Combine all ingredients in a medium-size glass jar and shake well. Let the jar sit at room temperature, giving the jar a shake every now and then, for at least 30 minutes. The onions can also be made 24 hours in advance and refrigerated. The longer they sit in the vinegar solution, the more vibrant the color becomes. Drain the onion slivers well before adding to the salad.
For the Honey Mustard Lemon Dressing:
Combine all ingredients in a medium-size glass jar and shake, shake, shake! That’s it. Dressing can be kept at room temperature for several hours then refrigerated for longer storage. Shake again before serving.
For the salad:
Combine all ingredients except for the blueberries, candied pecans, goat cheese and pansies (if using) in a large bowl and gently toss. Top with blueberries, candied pecans, goat cheese and pansies (if using). Serve the dressing on the side.

Self-Care for Changemakers:
Strategies to Avoid Burnout While Serving Others
As a changemaker, your passion for helping others often takes center stage, but it’s crucial to prioritize your own well-being too. Burnout is a common challenge for those dedicated to making a difference. Here are strategies to ensure you stay energized and effective while ser ving your community.
1. Set Boundaries
It’s okay to say no. Protect your time and energy by setting clear limits on how much you can realistically take on. Remember, quality of service often outweighs quantity.
2. Schedule Downtime
Just as you schedule meetings and events, schedule time for yourself. Whether it’s a walk in nature, reading a book, or simply relaxing, make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine.
3. Practice Mindfulness
Incorporate mindfulness techniques like meditation, deep breathing, or journaling into your day. These practices help you stay present and reduce stress.
4. Lean on Your Support Network
Don’t hesitate to reach out to friends, family, or fellow changemakers for support. S haring experiences and seeking advice can be incredibly rejuvenating.
5. Delegate and Collaborate
You don’t have to do it all alone. Delegate tasks and collaborate with others to share the workload and bring fresh perspectives to your efforts.
6. Stay Physically Active
Exercise isn’t just good for your body; it’s essential for your mental health too. Find an activity you enjoy and make it a regular part of your week.
7. Celebrate Small Wins
Acknowledge and celebrate the progress you’ve made, even if it feels small. Recognizing your accomplishments fuels motivation and keeps you focused on the positive impact of your work.
8. Seek Professional Help if Needed
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, consider seeking help from a counselor or therapist. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and professional guidance can provide valuable tools for coping.
Why Self-Care Matters
Sustainability: Consistent self-care enables you to serve others without depleting your own resources. Inspiration: A well-cared-for leader inspires others to prioritize their own well-being. Resilience: Self-care builds the resilience needed to navigate challenges and setbacks.
By taking care of yourself, you’re not just preserving your ability to help others; you’re setting a powerful example of what it means to lead with balance and intention. Embrace self-care as a vital part of your mission, and watch how it enhances both your life and your impact.
Saddle Up for a Cause
Volunteer with Stable-Spirit

Quote from Katie Durio, Executive Director at Stable-Spirit:
“The partnership between Stable-Spirit and the Junior League of Beaumont has been truly remarkable. Their volunteers have consistently brought energy and enthusiasm, whether assisting at our events or working hands-on with the horses at the stables. This collaboration has been seamless and rewarding, and we are incredibly pleased with the positive impact it has had on our organization.”

The O.N.E. Committee is proudly working with Stable-Spirit, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide the community with opportunities that inspire positive mental, physical, and emotional health through professionally guided interaction with horses.

At Stable-Spirit, volunteers are the backbone of the program. Stable-Spirit needs volunteers to assist in caring for the horses, maintaining the facility, assisting with fundraisers, and helping with Hippotherapy. It can take up to three volunteers to assist a client on a horse for Hippotherapy. These sessions are always conducted on Wednesdays.
There are many volunteer opportunities at Stable-Spirit, and you will definitely find something you enjoy. Whether you become a side walker, horse handler, groom horses, or just muck, and clean. Every hour you donate to Stable-Spirit helps their clients move closer to improved health and greater independence.
JLB recently sponsored the StableSpirit Recognition Day. This special day recognizes all of the hard work put in by clients, volunteers, and staff who help each client attain their goals.
Upcoming Fundraisers:
Join Stable-Spirit for their upcoming fundraiser at Cowboy Harley-Davidson on April 19th, featuring the 3rd Annual “Blessing of the Bikes.” This exciting event will include a bike scavenger hunt, stretching from Beaumont to Orange. The festivities will run from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and volunteers are needed at both Cowboy Harley-Davidson and Stable-Spirit to assist with various aspects of the scavenger hunt. Come out to support a great cause and be part of the fun!
Unable to make it to the Blessing of the Bikes? Join them June 7th at Stable-Spirit’s 6th Annual Golden DrawDown Fundraiser.
Visit their website www.stable-spirit. org for more information on volunteer opportunities.

EMPOWERING YOUTH HIGHLIGHTS
Thanksgiving Potluck
The EY Youth committee partnered up with Texas Family Care Network to host a Thanksgiving Potluck for local foster youth. The dinner was held at LIT on November 14. JLB active member Maegan Collins spoke to the youth about applying to Lamar and what the college has to offer. The kiddos had a fun time doing turkey crafts, visiting, learning about Lamar/LIT, eating, and winning door prizes!

National Adoption Day
A mass adoption was held at the Jefferson County Courthouse on National Adoption
Day, Friday, November 22, 2024. Members of EY and various JLB members attended to show support for local growing families in the community on such a joyous day.
CASA Christmas Toy Drive
EY would like to thank those that contributed towards the Christmas toy drive held by CASA of Southeast Texas. The EY committee was able to collect a substantial amount of gifts for area foster youth during the holiday season in December.

Texas Family Care Network (TFCN) put on an outstanding pancake breakfast with Santa for southeast Texas foster youth and families on December 14. The EY
committee decorated wooden ornaments with foster children to decorate their trees with at home. TFCN brought in so many amazing holiday craft, gift, activity, and resource booths for the youth at this successful event held in Port Arthur.
Girls Haven Self-Care Night
The EY committee hosted a special selfcare themed “girls night” at Girls Haven on January 30. The girls were pampered by the committee with face masks and press-on nails! Pajamas were worn and Meg Brown with the Period Power Pantry provided period packs for the girls. Provost Umphrey donated pizzas and self-care baskets for the girls. Christina Ayala (nurse practitioner) with the Healthy Behaviors committee presented information on creating healthy habits to the girls.

ISR Beaumont: Empowering Kids with Life-Saving Swim Skills
Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) Beaumont provides personalized, safe, and effective one-on-one swimming lessons tailored specifically to each child. Through a handson approach, ISR Instructors work directly with students in the water, teaching essential survival skills that could one day save their lives.
Children as young as six months old can begin learning the foundational ISR skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe. For infants and toddlers who are not yet proficient walkers, this critical technique allows them to maintain a safe position until help arrives. Older children build on these skills, progressing to advanced swimming techniques while still mastering the life-saving ability to float when needed.
As young swimmers develop their physical coordination, they are trained to combine swimming and floating skills. This involves swimming a short distance, rolling
onto their back to float and breathe, and continuing the sequence until they can safely reach the pool’s edge or shore.
ISR Beaumont offers five week courses for new students from March to October, providing nearly year-round opportunities for families to enroll. Registration begins each January, and spaces fill quickly, so join the email list today to secure your spot! m.pounders@infantswim.com
Prepare your child for a lifetime of water
safety and confidence with ISR Beaumont. Contact us to learn more and take the first step toward giving your child the gift of life-saving swimming skills.
