MISSION STATEMENT
The Junior League of Beaumont is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

Dear DWTS Committee, Junior League Members & Sustainers, and Our Amazing Community,

As I complete my time as Chair of Dancing with the Stars, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we have shared. This event has been more than just a fundraiser— it has been a testament to passion, dedication, and, most importantly, the power of coming together to make a difference.
One of my favorite moments was our impromptu dance party— because what better way to show the community that we are not just poised ladies, but also women who know how to have fun while making an impact? I hope you all enjoyed that little spice of dancing through life—a nod to Elphaba from Wicked and everything she embodies: strength, resilience, standing firm in your beliefs, and, of course, embracing the unexpected with open arms. Like Elphaba, we’ve proven that when we take chances, lean into the moment, and support one another, we create something truly magical.
To the DWTS committee, thank you for your tireless efforts, creativity, and commitment to making this event not just a success but a joyful experience for all. You poured your hearts into every detail, and it was a
privilege to lead such an extraordinary team.
To the Junior League of Beaumont Members & Sustainers, your unwavering dedication to service and lifting up our community is nothing short of inspiring. It has been an honor to work alongside such strong, compassionate women who, like Elphaba, know that sometimes flying solo is overrated—it’s the connections we build that truly help us defy gravity.
And to our incredible community, your generosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to dance with us—both literally and figuratively—have made this event unforgettable. Whether you donated, volunteered, cheered us on, or simply celebrated with us, you played a vital role in making a difference.
As I step away from this role, I do so with immense gratitude and the belief that Dancing with the Stars will continue to grow, inspire, and bring joy to so many. And just like Elphaba, I know that no matter where life takes us, the friendships, laughter, and impact we’ve created together will stay with us always.
With love, gratitude, and a little extra sparkle,

Chair, Dancing with the Stars 2025

anna papa
sustainer 2020 dwts chair
In this special edition issue of Spinnings, we’re pulling up a chair and chatting with some of the incredible women who’ve steered Beaumont’s “Dancing with the Stars” event through its vibrant history. These past chairs are sharing their insights, memories, and the behind-the-scenes stories that have made this event such a beloved tradition. Let’s get to know some of the women behind the mirrorball!
What inspired you to get involved with Dancing with the Stars?
I was a dancer for twenty years, so during my provisional year I was so excited to get involved in something that I hoped to bring value to.
Can you share a memorable moment from your time as chair of the event?
2019-2020 was the first year we sold tables at the Star Reveal and we sold our first $10,000 table of the year and it was such a huge moment and set the tone for a successful year.
What were some of the biggest challenges you faced while organizing the event?
We were really lucky to be able to have our event at all. Looking back, we were the last public event before the pandemic, and for that I feel so grateful.
How did you manage to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes?
We truly had the best committee and everyone was so dedicated to not only their designated tasks, but the overall success of the event.
What was the most rewarding part of being involved in this event?
Meeting all the wonderful people who want to better our community. From the Stars, to the studios and choreographers, to all the vendors and people who help pull off the show, everyone has a vested interest and it was an honor to get to know them all.
Can you tell us about any unexpected surprises or last-minute changes you had to handle?
We had a cast member switch about 6 weeks before the show and it was both nerve wracking and wonderful. That couple won Fan Favorite and truly were fantastic.
What advice would you give to future chairs of the event?
Lean on your committee and your “Grandmas” and always keep your eye on the purpose of our event.
Dancing with the Stars is such a success because of the wonderful impact it has on our community and that will continue on for years to come.
What role did volunteers and other JLB members play in the success of the event, and how did you coordinate their efforts?
My chair year was the fourth year of DWTS, so I think the momentum of the JLB members was strong. There was so much support from Star Reveal through clean up the following morning. The JLB members are always the heroes.

Can you share any behind-the-scenes stories that highlight the hard work and dedication of the team?
I truly believe the sisterhood that DWTS creates makes for such an impactful and empowering effort. I will forever be thankful to have been CoChair to Sierra Fisher and then serve alongside my Co-Chair Lauren Thieme. I think the passage of the torch really sets each following committee up for the highest success.
What do you think makes Dancing with the Stars so special and unique for the Junior League of Beaumont?
Dancing with the Stars is truly a unique and special event because it involves the entirety of the SETX community. We strive to reach every edge of our geographical area and bring people together and share the impact of what our organization can do and the impact of our reach. It was an honor to have been a chair and I remain committed to this wonderful night!
erin godina
active member 2024 dwts chair

What inspired you to get involved with Dancing with the Stars?
I was sold when I showed up on March 1, 2019 for my required 2 hour shift my provisional year. From the glitz and glamour, to the excitement in the air was all so contagious. Although I only knew this as a fundraiser for the league, I truly didn’t understand the impact.... just yet! The connection seen between the Chair and the committee at the time, along with the past Chairs could not be ignored. This was something I wanted to be a part of! Talk about a full circle, I would not have thought that exactly to the date 5 years later I would have the honor to serve as Chair!
Can you share a memorable moment from your time as chair of the event?
There are truly so many memorable moments throughout chairing and I remember them all like they were yesterday. I would say that collectively getting to know and working with each of the Stars along the way, especially the night of the event, takes the cake. Each and every one of our 16 stars gave it their all, seeing their drive to fundraise for our community and compete with one another all the while having a blast doing it, was so fun to watch.
How did you manage to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes?
My predecessors set the bar! Not only did they pave the way for this event to run even more smoothly year after year, learning the dos and don’ts, but they have all been truly the most supportive women. From group texts with the past chairs, to individual texts or calls they were always there to support, encourage, and simply just listen at times. My leadership skills in my career certainly played a factor, but working alongside like-minded women to reach a common goal with the best committee ever is most definitely a huge reason things ran so smoothly. It all went off without a hitch!!.. ;) IYKYK

What was the most rewarding part of being involved in this event? I never would have imagined this event would be the biggest fundraiser in the Junior League of Beaumont’s history!! I am still in awe, proud, and somewhat speechless. It is an extremely rewarding feeling to be a part of something so big that is touching the lives of so many people in Southeast Texas. This would not have been possible without our Stars, Studios, Sponsorships, Committee, and supporters.
What advice would you give to future chairs of the event?
Know that you are supported! Reach out to your “grannies.”
Dancing with the Stars in itself is a solid well supported event by our community, you have their backing! Have fun, take a deep breath, and delegate!
How did the community respond to the event, and what impact did it have on the Junior League of Beaumont?
The buzz around this event is electric! Every year people are so excited to hear who the stars are going to be. Our Stars are typically well-known within the community through their own volunteer efforts and/or their career so whether attendees know them personally or not, they are excited to see them perform. And who doesn’t like to get dressed up? The impact is that our community has supported year after year, especially in 2024 making it so successful!!
Are there any particular performances or participants that stood out to you?
Now you know I can’t just pick one. I loved every single one of the performances! They all brought something so different and fun. All of the music was great and the crowd was roaring the entire night!
How did you handle the pressure and stress that comes with organizing such a high-profile event?
I cried in the closet like a lady as one dear friend advised me to do. Just kidding, I didn’t cry (at least in the closet) - just when I was getting my makeup done the night of the event because it was finally here. I was already so proud of what myself and my committee had accomplished. There were of course some bumps along the way, but that is with anything in life. Remembering that everyone involved in this event is in it for the same common goal kept me focused.

nail clippers, socks, nail files, information about shoes, diabetic foot care, and plantar fasciitis. Lastly, to keep everyone hydrated and energized, Healthy Behaviors proudly partnered with Service Squad at the Beaumont Chamber Foundation’s Pickleball Tournament. JLB LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
By: Kate Thorne
The Junior League of Beaumont is on a mission to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training, which is evidenced through the creation of this leadership program and the Education and Training Committee. Through Education and Training experiences this year and in the past, I have been able to expand my knowledge base and learn more about being a leader and the League as a whole. I have especially enjoyed the Training Collaborative of Junior League training opportunities because I feel that we are providing more quality training and opportunities to our members. I joined the League almost eight years ago as a provisional and was able to see the creation of the Education and Training Committee while I was in the League. It has been incredibly rewarding to watch this committee develop into an important member-benefit that not only provides fun opportunities for instilling camaraderie, but also helps develop our leaders and pass on our League processes and information. I hope that this program can encourage others to take the time to invest in themselves and invest in the League with their time and expertise. Strong League leaders do not just appear, they have to put in time with other League members and learn the ins and outs of the League through placements, inleague committees, and volunteer opportunities outside of their placement. Leadership does not exist in a silo. I hope that even with the virtual options, leaders will find each other in the League and continue the legacy of meaningful community impact in Beaumont and its surrounding areas.

PROVISIONAL corner

PROVISIONAL PROJECT UPDATES
Provisionals are well underway on completing their provisional project. Their goal is to give the women’s area of the Beaumont Police Department a well-deserved makeover! Be on the lookout for the Amazon wish list of items needed to make their makeover a huge success! This month, they had a meeting and invited Sheena Yarborough’s family to speak and give insight into the work of a police officer and what it means to have a space to be able to rest in. Provisionals are so excited to give back to the community and to be involved with Beaumont PD!
Design dates are scheduled for April 6-7 at Beaumont Police Department.
The provisional members of the Junior League of Beaumont offered essential support to the Dancing with the Stars committee. Their contributions went beyond offering help the night of the event. They participated in the decorating the Civic Center and assisted in the coordination of logistical elements. During the event itself, provisionals served as dedicated volunteers, providing assistance with guest services and operational support. They are quickly stepping in to help anytime and anywhere it is needed and our League is seeing the benefits of these amazing women already!

Junior League of Beaumont’s Ice Cream Social Kicks
Off the Neches River Festival Season
By Sarah Wells

The Neches River Ice Cream Social once again marked the official start of festival season in Beaumont, bringing together the Princesses and Junior League members for an afternoon of fellowship, celebration, and, of course, sweet treats. This beloved tradition invited Neches River Festival princesses and duchesses to enjoy an afternoon of camaraderie while anticipating the exciting events ahead.

A highlight of the social was the recognition of this year’s Junior League of Beaumont princesses, Brianna McLaughlin and Aubrie Gardner. Both seniors at West Brook High School, Brianna is the daughter of Junior League Sustainer Angie McLaughlin, while Aubrie is the daughter of Junior League Active Amanda Gardner. These exceptional young women will proudly represent the Junior League throughout the festival season, carrying forward the organization’s values of leadership, service, and tradition.

Junior League of Beaumont PresidentElect Sarah Wells welcomed guests and encouraged them to consider joining the Junior League in the future—whether in Beaumont or wherever life may take them.
The League offers an incredible opportunity for young women to develop leadership skills, build lifelong friendships, and make a lasting impact through service. Guests enjoyed an ice cream bar while mingling and sharing their excitement for the upcoming festivities. The event served as a reminder of the strong sense of community and tradition that makes Beaumont’s festival season so special.
In addition to celebrating the princesses, the Junior League of Beaumont is proud to support young women through its scholarship program. Each year, the League awards scholarships to outstanding high school seniors who demonstrate a commitment to leadership, volunteerism, and academic excellence. This initiative ensures that the League’s legacy of empowering women will continue for generations to come.
With the Neches River Ice Cream Social setting the stage, the city eagerly looks ahead to a season filled with celebration, connection, and lasting memories.
