OneamazingfactthatIhavetheprivilegeofsharingis thatVillagenewshasbeensharedwithourresidents consistentlyinprintproducedbyourresidentsforcloseto 50 years.

Thefirstsanctionedpublication, The Pulse Beat,which waspublishedmonthly,wasfoundedundertheeditorship offormerresidentMissVirginiaThe Subers.

Pulse Beat introducedmanagement,operationspersonnel,andnew Joseph Trainor residents.Othertopicsincludedproposedcommunity Chief Administrative Officer projects,Villagehappenings,residentbirthdaysand John Knox Village anniversaries,achaplain’scornerandacalendarofdaily activities.Thisfour-pagepublicationwasenhancedby of Central Florida picturesanddrawings.

Duringthe1980s, The Pulse Beatwasreplacedwitha bi-weeklynewssheetandlaterbythe Knox weekly News, whichthentransitioned Village toWeekly; the Village Life, launchedinJune201.

Itishardtobelieve,butthefirstresident, Intheearlyyears,modifiedcottageson Mrs.EdnaWillett,movedintohernew AzaleaDrivehousedadministrationa homeonAzaleaLaneonOctober3, maintenance.HousesonJonquilCourt 1972,intheoriginalcommunitynamed housedservicespertainingtorelig Aldersgate.Other andsociallife. residentsfollowedsoon after.

Itwasnotlong beforespecial Theoriginalresidents interestgroups trulycanbeconsidered wereformedfor pioneers.Accordingto activitiesand diariesleftbehind,besides crafts.S&Hgreen Azalea“Lane,”otherbuildingswereup,stampsandcouponswerecollectedto butnothingwasfinishedonthesouth silverfortheproposedmedicalcente sideofthelake.Thecommunityalso includedmobilehomesinthelocationof whatisbecomingValenciaLanding.

Justlikeinmanysouthernsmall towns,Sundaywasadayofrestand noactivitieswereallowedbutchurch services,notevenuseofthelaundromat!

FormerresidentMaggieDeLong stateditwasnotevenpossibletoget ahamburger…fastfoodchainswere notavailableeveninnearbyDeLand.

Vickiiscurrentlyourlongestservingemployee with36yearsofcontinuousserviceunderher belt.ButdidyouknowthatVicki’shistorywithJKV goesbackevenfurther?
