PIGNETO SOCIAL HUB rich social life is defined by a multitude of I Pigneto’s generations, demographics, housing typologies, and yet the quartiere lacks a central hub for the G cultures, mixing of these groups. Torrione Prenestino, with edges, is at once a breachable N infrastructure-defined barrier. The park as re-envisioned focuses site pathways native circulation strategies, strategically aligns E around volumes and passages with the topography and solar and maximizes the public value of the site’s T conditions, position, scale, and view corridors. The new Torrione embraces a multi-level floor plan with defined O Prenestino public and private spaces, and details a variety of R O M A
experiential conditions, each of which contribute to a sense of collective belonging. The form reinterprets the native courtyard building typology, orienting its open side to the Southeast. It combines this first floor courtyard with a semi-recessed ground floor and cantilevered second level. Access between different levels of the site and building itself are afforded by staircases. The Social Hub’s mass is in conversation with its context, using terracing levels to introduce new views at each elevation, key openings to create dialog with the Torrione, and angles related to the immediate, existing context. With this scheme, Pigneto gains a “third place” to interact, one integrated with the quartiere to introduce rich spaces for generations to engage in multicultural exchange.
