Crime rate in Novaliches particulary in the “Bayan” area has gone down since July when the Duterte administration came into power.
This was learned from PO3 Rivera of QCPD Station 4 in Novaliches who added that there was a marked improvement in the peace and order situation in the area.
Apparently, the governments ongoing war on drugs has almost cleared the streets of thugs and other unsavory characters that prey on hapless pedestrians, and commuters.
“Masasabi kong mas ligtas ang Nova Bayan ngayon sa ilalim ng administrasyon Duterte kumpara noon. Bumaba ang krimen ngayon dahil na rin sa pinaigting na kampanya ng pulisya kontra droga, na siyang dahilan ng samut-saring krimen,” said,” John Paul Labrague, Grade 11-ABM.
Some students credit this to police visibility in the area.
“Police presence in the area, manning checkpoints and always on the look out
for suspected lawbreaker, improved the situation. Police visibility has obviously discouraged holdups and pickpockets. ”It creates an impression that cops are really out to serve and protect the people.”
Despite this development, some students still feel “not safe” to roam around the vicinity.

NHS joins Nat’l Greening Program

To show their sincerity and commitment in protecting the environment, some teachers and students of Novaliches High School held a tree planting activity at Brgy. San Andres, Tanay, Rizal last October 9.
A project of Supreme Student Government (SSG), Araling Panlipunan Department, YES-O, NHS Faculty and Non-teaching Personnel Club (NHS-FNTP), the activity was in support to the National Greening Program (NGP) of the Department of Environment and Natural resources (DENR).
Forester Julita Mustapha from the DENR Central Office for Special Concerns guided and lectured the group on the importance of environmental awareness through tree planting.
“Awareness should be more than just talkies.
Rather, hands-on activities should be done,” Ms. Mustapha asserted. “Sustainable volunteerism or bayanihan should be encouraged.”
The Laiban Dam is a water reservoir located in Tanay, Rizal and is the way to relieve Metro Manila’s overdependence on the water supplied by Angat Dam.
It’s watershed has been identified by the Southern Sierra Madre Wildlife Center of the Envi ronmental Studies Institute of Miriam Col lege as one of the SMBC’s 14 priority biodiversity conser vation sites.
NHS best brigada implementer

For the fourth time, Novaliches High School (NHS) has bagged the Brigada Eskwela Best District Implementer award for big schools category.
In her memo dated August 17, 2016, Schools Division Superintendent Elizabeth E. Quesada, CESO V, congratulated NHS, as well as the other winning schools in the 2016 search.
Dr. Proceso T. Lera, principal IV of NHS, extended his commendation and congratulations to the teaching and non-teaching personnel who exerted their time and resources for the successful implementation of the program.
“Job well-done, but we need to sustain our efforts and work harder. Our target is to win in the Division level,” Dr. Lera said.

On the one hand, some said the peace and order in Novaliches should not be attributed to the new president, rather on the police visibility and swift action.

An estimated 250 young journalists from 14 public and private secondary schools saw action in the annual competition held in preparation for the Division Secondary Schools Press Conference (DSSPC).
The bayanihan (cooperation) of NHS alumni, government sectors, private corporations and individuals had benefitted around 5,200 student-population of NHS.
Initiated in 2003, Brigada Eskwela brings together the government and civil society to work together to ensure that all public school facilities are clean, orderly, and safe for the opening of classes each school year.
With the theme: “Tayo Para sa Paaralang Ligtas, Maayos , at Handa Mula Kindergarten Hanggang Senior High School, DepEd aimed to unite communities for the purpose of ensuring a better future for the next generation.
Pope calls on journalists to defend truth

Dedicating his monthly prayer intention for October for journalists, Pope Francis urged the journalists to uphold the truth and develop a “culture of encounter” among people.
“We need information leading to compromise of humanity and the planet, “ the Pope said. In a video message, Pope Francis said he often wonders how the media can be put to the service of a culture of encounter.
“I pray that journalists, in carrying out their work, may always be motivated by respect for truth and a strong sense of ethics,” the head of the Roman Catholic Church said.
A culture of encounter, or to come face to face, is the Pope’s call for people to look beyond their means and wants to hose of others.

STEM awaits Senior HS students

Novaliches High School shall start accepting incoming grade 11 students who want to pursue a track in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for school year 20172018.
This was learned from Mr. Ryan Dona, senior high school internal focal person, who added that the plan is in preparation for special science class which is being offered in the junior high school.
As for the facilities, he said that two more laboratories are needed— life science and physical science labs.
“We have one already, but of course we need to tap the help of more generous stakeholders to augment our needs. Until now the SHS can use the facilities and teachers from JHS. This is the back up plan of the DepEd for those SHSs with shortage of manpower and facilities.” he added.
UWC welcomes Cosme in Germany

The United World Colleges welcomed Paul Gabriel Cosme in Robert Bosch, Germany, as he passed the UWC requirements and make Novaleños proud for the nth time.
“I heard about UWC from who works as a teacher in a public school before being chosen as a nominee. Then I hooked up my computer to learn more about UWC in the internet,” Cosme introduced on how he knew about UWC.
Cosme, who was the rank one on his batch (School Year 20152016), ranked second and got the spot in Germany.
The past Supreme Student Government President stressed that he was dreaming for our Motherland to attain peace and progress through understanding others.
“In school, this barrier is felt. I ran for president (and won) because I wanted to make an equal ground for students. I showed them that opportunities are given to people with determination; not only to the top class, despite that I am the top student of this class. I spearheaded activities and consultations with students monthly to boost their confidence. Whenever there are outreach programs by the school, DENR, the church and others, I would encourage students to join us and recognize their efforts. I noticed that mutual understandings between different people explosively grew,” he added.
Cosme, the Center for Excllence (Centrex) Batch 17 Valedictorian arrived last August 23 and he was the ambassador of the UWC Philippines in UWC Robert Bosch College.
NHS has so far partnered with Rebisco Foundation for its Food and Beverage (F&B) track, SM for its Accountancy and Business Management (ABM) track, and Quezon City Hall for HUMSS.
Mrs. Mercy Pan, SHS external focal person, in-charge of partnerships with stakeholders nearby, said that more companies and institutions had pledged support for the SHS tracks.
Meanwhile, Mr Dona stressed that stricter standards will be set for STEM entrants.
“Their Science and Math grades should not be lower than 85. Also, their average at the end of each grading period should not be lower than 85,” he said.
Incoming grade 10 students will be prioritized as the school can only accommodate 500 students in different tracks.
Grade 10 population is 1,112.
DepEd bids schools to join anti-Zika drive

Education Secretary Leonor Briones has ordered public elementary and secondary schools nationwide to join in the government’s campaign to disseminate information against the Zika virus.
In her memorandum, she enjoined DepEd regional and division offices, as well as school officials, to take part in the campaign of the Department of Health (DOH) to inform the public about the virus.
The Secretary said the DOH has coordinated with local officials to intensify mosquito control efforts, includingfogging, destruction or elimi-
nation of mosquito preventions to be observed by travelers and residents.
“These include the use of approved insect repellants, wearing of clothing which prevents skin exposure to mosquito bites and use of mosquito bed nets ,”she added. “ The same measures will also protect us from dengue and “chikungunya.”
Briones reminded school officials of an existing order covering the guidelines to protect students and other stakeholders from mosquito-borne illnesses.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured the public that the government will respect the human rights of suspected drug violators even as they said they do not condone summary killings.
Speaking before campus journalists and school paper advisers, Police Chief Inspector Jonathan del Rosario, PNP-PIO chief, said that they would investigate every incident on alleged violations against human rights of the suspects.

Rotary Club donates to NHS

More than 1200 volumes of hardbound books from Children International were donated to the NHS Library last September 10.
The book donation was made possible by the Rotary Club of Greenfields Quezon City and the Rotary Club of Neopolitan Fairview who shouldered the shipping fees in coordination with the Lim O. Chu Foundation.
According to Ms. Eloisa M. Versoza, Rotary Club of Greenfields representative, it is one of their ways to help and inspire the students to use and read books.
Librarian Belle Baladad gave some of the books of literature, science and senior high school references to the students and faculty, while others were kept in the libary.

Scribes settle for 5th in DSSPC

After a successful runner-up finish in last year’s Division Secondary Schools Press Conference (DSSPC), NHS campus journalists could only gamble a fifth place trophy this year.
Garnering 43 points, NHS was adjudged fifth highest school pointer among 60 public and private high schools in Quezon City which joined in the annual journalism contests held at San Francisco High School, Oct. 6,7 and 10.
The Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) class of North Fairview High School was declared highest school pointer.
“This could be the toughest DSSPC ever as everyone wanted to qualify for the regionals. I’m just happy for the achievement our scribes have achieved, said Mr. Edgar Medallo of The Reservoir.
The Regional Office has ruled that only the top ten winners in each category shall join in the RSSPC this year.

New honor roll system bared

In line with the implementation of K to 12 law, the Department of Education (DepEd) shall be adopting new policy guidelines on awards and recognition for the K to 12 Basic Education Program effective school year 2016-2017.
This was contained in DepEd Order No. 36, S. 2016 dated June 2, 2016, which says that these awards have been designed to formally recognize the outstanding performance and achievement of learners in academics, leadership, and social responsibility.
Awards to be given will be Classroom Awards, Conduct Awards, Academic Excellence Award, Recognition for Perfect Attendance, Leadership Awards, Outstanding Performance in Specific Disciplines Award, and Special Recognition Award.
· Classroom Awards
Recognition will be given to learner’s outstanding performance in each class or section. A simple recognition may be given per quarter, semester, or at the end of the school year.
· Conduct Awards
These awards are given to learners who have consistently demonstrated the DepEd core values of Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan, at Makabansa.
· Academic Excellence Award
This award is given each quarter to learners who have attained an average of at least 90 and passed all learning areas.
Specifically, achievers will be categorized according to 1. With Highest Honors/ May Pinakamataas na Karangalan (98-100); 2. With High Honors/ May Mataas na Karangalan (95-97); and 3. With Honors/ May Karangalan (90-94).
· Perfect Attendance Award
The award is given to at the end of every quarter to encourage learners to attend and actively participate in class. Learners who represent the school in various purposes may also qualify for the award.
· Leadership Award
This award is given to learners in grades 6, 10, and 12 who have demonstrated exemplary skills in motivating and organizing projects that have contributed to the betterment of the school and/or community.
· Award for Outstanding Performance in Specific Disciplines
These awards recognize learners in grades 6, 10, and 12, who have exhibited exemplary skills in Athletics, Arts, Communication Arts, Mathematics and Science, Social Sciences, and Technical-Vocational Education.
· Special Recognition Learners who have represented and/ or won in competitions in district, division, regional and international levels will be recognized. These awardees have demonstrated their exemplary performance in academics, athletics, arts and / or represented the school in DepEd-recognized activities.
SSG supports 1M pencils drive

Ma. Lourdes Mercado is enjoining the school community to donate pencils in support to the campaign dubbed “One Million Lapis” of the DepEd and Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC).
The campaign is aimed at providing pencils for learners in the country’s poorest municipalities , and is one of the major activities for the National Children’s Month in November.

“We donated partially last Oct. 26 through SSG president Nathaniel Cajuday and vice president Chelsea Concepcion at the Division office, and right now, we’re still accepting pencil donations for the outreach,” Mrs. Mercado said.
In DepEd Memo No. 169 series of 2016, Undersecretary Alberto Muyot expressed the Department’s full support to the “One Million Lapis” campaign and enjoined all schools to join the initiative.
In the said memo, Muyot explained that the “One Million Lapis” campaign aims to collect one million pencils
to be given to underprivileged children in elementary schools of the 4th and 6th class municipalities of the country.
“These children lack the opportunity to pursue schooling and necessary materials for writing,” he said.
Students, teachers, and other members of the community are asked to donate pencils –whether new or used–in support of the said campaign. Muyot said that DepEd personnel and staff may also invite their partners from non-government organizations, parent-teachers associations, and other members of the community or private sector to donate pencils to the campaign.

S2 SHS studes earn NC

Two Senior High School students under the Technical Vocational Track acquired National Certificate after passing the TESDA Examination last October 7, 2016.
Jazmine Reign Pucan and Kimberly Gonzales, Food & Beverage students were chosen to take the test at St. Claire De Manila, International Foundation Inc.
The examination was composed of an interview about baking, ingredients and characteristics of baked products, and an actual test in which they were given four hours to finish their pastries such as swiss roll, dinner roll, cake and petit four.
“It was a great privilege for aspiring students like us to pass the assessment because it will give us a lot of opportunities and we are very much grateful for this achievement,” Pucan said.
Most of the examinees were teachers, housewives and business owners while they were the only students who took the exam.
Ms. Martha Milagros Manaog trained and accompanied the two students with the consent of Mrs. Carmen Parungao, Mrs. Ederlina Baleña and the principal Dr. Proceso T. Lera.
SHS Caravan held

To help the grade 10 students prepare for senior high school, Novaliches High School launched a school caravan last October 14 at the NHS covered.
“This caravan aims to help students for the school where they will enroll for the next school year and with the help of these schools, they have been guided in what particular strands they will choose,” Principal Proceso Lera said.
The event was expected to have 21 participating schools within Quezon City, including the AMA College, Bestlink College of the Philippines, Our Lady of Lourdes Technology, Datamex College of Saint Adeline, Access Computer College, Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU), Metro Manila College, IIHC Senior High School, National Polytechnic College of Science and Technology (NPCST), National College of Business and Arts (NCBA), International Christian School (ICS) and Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) Senior High School.
These schools offer different strands on Academic tracks, like Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), General Academic (GAS) and in Technical-Vocational (Tech-Voc), like Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Home Economics, and in Arts and Design, like Performing Arts (PA).

6 slain in Brgy. San Agustin’s war on drugs

ix drug personalities had been killed in Barangay San Agustin since July 2016 when “Oplan Tokhang” had been enforced in coordination with police authorities.
This was according to barangay executive officer Jaime Gregorio, who added that 15 people were arrested while 226 had surrendered and 225 houses had been visited
“As of now, there are still a
hundred people who are in the watchlist and are being monitored,” Mr. Gregorio added. Those who surrendered and were “arrested” are being asked to do community service activities twice a month such as tree planting and roadside cleanings.
He also said that they are planning to put a signage “Drug Free” on every household visited if they believe that
the residents have been proven not using drugs anymore.
“We want a drug-free Barangay San Agustin,” Mr Gregorio said.
Meanwhile, the barangay holds feeding program for poor constituents every week.
He also announced that a Kasalang Bayan was held last October 16 in the covered court through Atty. Godie Liban’s initiative.

Another year was added as Novalenos celebrated the Novaliches High School’s 52nd Foundation Day last November 18, 2016 at the school grounds.
The celebration was started by a parade over the streets before the school, entrance of colors by the NHS- BSP, National Anthem, Alma Mater Song, a Christian Fellowship led by the Church of God Novaliches and a preaching of Ms. Analou Verano, alumna and a pastor, and the ribbon cutting by Dr. Proceso T. Lera, Mathematics Department Head Mrs. Dorcas Bote, Kagawad Obet Peralta, NHS- SSG Adviser Ms. Ahlou Mercado, and NHS- SSG President Nathaniel Cajuday, heading to the official opening of booths.
The festivity had two contests by the SSG, namely the Wellness Field Demonstration of per year level, and Move! Great Dance Battle.

‘Force vs drugs’

We need force over drugs.
Thus stressed Police Senior Inspector Randy Llanderal of QCPD Station 4, in his talk during the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Seminar held at the AVR of Novaliches High School last October 7.
Aiming to help the minors become aware of drugs, the conference pointed out the facts about drugs such as its kinds, origin, short and long term effects, and the laws and regulations on illegal use of drugs.
“Ang kabataan ay ang pag-asa ng bayan,” Llanderal emphasized.
Grade 9 student asked Llanderal what should be done to students who will be tested positive in drug tests.
“Sa pangunguna ni Vice Mayor Belmonte ginagawa na sa San Agustin at Dona Rosario ang mga rehabilitation. Bibigyan ng barangay ng counsel ang mga schools na may programa against drugs. Hindi sila makukulong bagkus, bibigyan sila ng pagkakaabalahan, tutulungan para magbagong buhay. Weekly imomonitor,” he replied.
Moreover, the student asked about his comments on the instant killing of poor drug users and pushers while keeping the rich drug addicts alive.
“Yung mayaman ay buhay at mga patay ay sabihin natin ay low class, ay wala pong katotohanan yan. Yung mga taong lumaban kaya namatay ay armadong lumalaban sa mga pulis, nakikipagbarilan. At sa mga nabubuhay, hindi naman lumaban kaya walang nangyari sa kanila, mas marami ang buhay,” Llanderal answered.
He also added that the number of death is far from the number of alive as 1, 393 who surrendered are still alive, 185 were caught and charged.
In the nine barangays in Novaliches, only 18 died as they fought back to the arresting police officers.
OAnti-poverty consultation held
An anti-poverty project called Zero Extreme Poverty Program 2030 (ZEP 2030) held a consultation meeting among local government units, teachers, parents and Senior High School students last October 24, 2016 at Valenzuela City Hall.
Spearheaded by Valenzuela City Mayor, Mayor Rexlon Gatchalian, ZEP 2030 program as a 15-year program that started on October 15, 2015 whose purpose is to decrease the poverty rate in the Philippines through the use of eight themes which are education, health, livelihood, environment, agriculture and fisheries, housing, peace and human security, and social justice.

The meeting focused on one major theme which is education whereas the attendees from different cities of the National Capital Region (NCR) were divided into four sectors; the youth or students sector, the parents sector, the Non-governmental Organizations (NGO) sector, and the Local Government Unit (LGU) sector.
Each sector was asked on their opinions on concerns such as: What are their dreams for the youth, What needs to be changed and strengthened in the field of education, How can they contribute personally to help improve education.

“This is a record-breaking speed of a cornerstone or milestone executive order,”Communications Secreatry Martin Andanar said.
Andanar also read the provisions of the executive order.
“Every Filipino shall have access to information, official records, public records, and to documents and papers pertaining to official

acts, transactions, or decisions, as well as to government research data used as basis for public document,” the Order said.
Access to information shall be denied when the information falls under any of the exceptions provided for in the 1987 Constitution.
Filipinos may request for the information they need by submitting a written request to the government office concerned. The letter should contain a proof of identity of the requesting party, a description of the information needed and the purpose of the request.
Under Section 15 of the said order, any employee or public officer who will fail to comply with the provisions of the EO may face administrative and disciplinary sanctions.
The Department of Justice and the Office of the Solicitor General are directed to prepare a list of exceptions within 30 days from the date of the effectiveness of the EO.
He said that aside from agencies in the executive branch, state universities and colleges and government-owned or controlled corporations are also covered by the order.

In support to the government’s planned nationwide ban on smoking, the Department of Education (DepEd) has ordered all schools to strictly implement the policy and guidelines on comprehensive tobacco control programs.
DepEd Order 48 s 2016 directs all schools to monitor compliance and report violations of tobacco control policies such as absolute smoking ban in the premises of schools, including canteens, toilets, outdoor spaces, and vehicles park on school premises.

Violated Freedom and Silenced Truth, Definitely not a hero.
As President Rodrigo Roa Duterte took office since his inauguration, the issue about the former President Ferdinand Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) became alive again. Ex-Pres. Marcos shouldn’t and must not be buried in the LNMB.
The issue started during the election campaign in Ilocos Norte of Pres. Duterte, who was still a city mayor back then, when he promised that if he will be president, Ferdinand Marcos would be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
As campaign issues such as about fight against drugs, corruption, crime, poverty, over population, malnourishment, and economic growth, how could President Duterte think that Marcos’ burial is as important as those? The only place in which the issue would reverberate is in Marcos’ Birthplace and the place where he originally want to be buried, beside his mother and brother’s grave.
According to the 2000 census, there are only 514,000 registered population in Ilocos Norte. It is the least in the Ilocos Region and only 12.2 percent of the total population. This shows how many people would be possibly hurt or offended if Marcos wouldn’t be buried in the LNMB, which Duterte is worried about. The population is nothing against the millions of people who died, suffered, tortured, hurt, raped and lost in the regimen of the Marcoses.
In any case, there are only three former presidents who were buried in the LNMB, namely Elpidio Quirino, Carlos P. Garcia and Diosdado Macapagal. So it would be no shame if Marcos isn’t buried in the LNMB, yet there would be so much pain if he is.
President Digong would like to bury him in the LNMB because he wants to “keep his promise.” His promise to whom? Who told him to make it a campaign issue? No one told him to promise such thing.
Marcos was no hero. He was responsible for the economic debacle that led us into debt crisis and had so many deaths, disappearances and incarcerations on his hands.
The shortcoming is that Duterte is still insisting that Marcos should be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani because he is a soldier. And all soldiers are entitled to be buried there. Soldiers are buried there because they fought for their country and soldiers who died fighting for their country are certainly considered as heroes.
But Marcos undoubtedly didn’t die for our country. And based on a research of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines demonstrates that Marcos took advantage of whatever army connections he had for fraudulent money-making and self-aggrandizing purposes.
So if Marcos is not considered as a hero and not worthy to be called a soldier, isn’t it clear that he must not be added and shouldn’t be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani? He should have stayed in his birthplace and don’t trespass the LNMB.

Journalism may seem to be a flame that is dangerous for those who report the truth. It is a fire that brings harm and worse, death. But somehow, a blaze could be beneficial too for it brings light.
People rely on different sources of information – one of which is the Press. Everything that is written or stated in a public print should be and is assumed true. It has a tremendous influence on the way people think. At the same time, it provides people with knowledge to help them look into an issue.
But the liberty in disseminating information has been a problematic concept. Press freedom is limited for it is compromised by the government’s ability to keep information. At present times, the society is perhaps said to be blinded by state-run news. Real stories are if not intentionally, forcibly hidden – for the protection of those persons having personal interests – to save their decaying reputation; for their dilapidated , extenuating agenda: for their own good.

The Department of Education (DepEd) is looking into the possibility of conducting regular drug tests on public and private high school students in light of the Duterte administration’s crackdown on illegal drugs and it is right and just even sometimes student’s privacy is at risk. The student’s privacy means a lot, however the test is for a greater cause. There are many kids that may be taking drugs, and their parents don’t even know about it at all. But it does not mean that they did a crime.
There are so many reasons why school-youth should undergo drugs test. Teaching students about drugs would not be more effective for the school to do, as the school’s job is to educate but, sadly enough, the schools did start out as educators but, parents of these past and current generations have been less

Pessimism aside, the Order is a good sign of this five-month old administration to show its commitment to their campaign promise of a clean government.

We fervently hope though that the 17th Congres, the people’s representatives, would take a clue to Malacanang’s initiative by enacting the FOI law which has become stagnant ever since late senator Raul Roco filed the first FOI bill in the 8th Congress.
With this development, FOI is not limited to the power of mainstream media to report shenanigans in government anymore. It is now for campus journalists, as well. And in order to perform its function as a watchdog against abuses, and as a catalyst for change, campus media must do its share to strengthen freedom of information in school levels. Our schools should be an institution of truth.
Even as students, we have the right to know the vital information in and about our school. The school officials and student organizations must be truthful to the students.
Let campus journalism be an agent of change that will enlighten the people blinded in vast darkness of felonious lies.

A Boy Who Cried Wolf
No country can stand alone without any assistance of another country. But for Duterte, it is okay to be independent.
It’s good to hear that President Duterte said that he won’t be a puppy to any country ¬except for the Philippines.
That’s what he said before his flight for an official visit to Japan , a fellow United States ally and big Philippine investor.
On the eve of his visit, the volatile Mr. Duterte told Japanese media that he didn’t intend to junk a Philippine alliance with US and that he was only seeking to build “an alliance of trade and commerce” with China.
With regards to the relationship with China, Duterte had a bilateral talk with their President Xi Jinping as a part of a charm offensive aimed at seeking trade and support from the Asian giant by setting aside a thorny territorial dispute.
Does it mean that China is the newest BFF of the Philippines?
Especially because Duterte has already projected concession by saying he would ask Beijing to “allow” Filipinos to fish freely in Panatag or Scarborough shoal.
But the arbitral court also specifically declared that China violated Philippine fishing rights by preventing Filipinos from fishing in Panatag. So why should Beijing be asked to allow Filipinos to fish there?
Maybe something got lost in translation again and we are falling to use or “creative imagination” to interpret the context of Duterte’s statement. But someone should remind him that “allow” is used carefully in international diplomacy, especially where territorial disputes are concerned.
Almost immediately after receiving gifts from China, Duterte came out swinging at he United States sending shockwaves throughout the international diplomatic community.
A day after softening his remarks about a “separation” from US , President Duterte was at it again: firing another diatribe against US, issuing a veiled threat to revoke the Enhance Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA). He said that he don’t want to see any military man from any nation (on Philippine soil) except Filipino soldiers.
He also slammed US and European critics of the extrajudicial killings and their meddling campaign against illegal drugs.
Mr. Duterte voiced outrage over comments made by US Secretary of State for East Asia and the Pacific Daniel Russel, whom criticized his anti-US tirades and his drug war which has claimed 3,700 lives in just four months. Duterte “just shut up” during Russel’s visit which was aimed at clarifying his remarks in Beijing that he was separating from US and realigning with China.
But Duterte said he couldn’t hold back his anger when he red a newspaper headline saying that he is making an international distress – according to US.
No country can stand alone without any assistance of another country. But for Duterte, it is okay to be independent. Although there will be lesser quality life, he strongly believes that Philippines will survive without any help of a foreign country.
The current state of the relationships of many nations right now is like “friends with benefits”. Our fierce President Duterte must be canny enough for he is surrounded by many predators. He should know who are the real friends so in the end he wouldn’t be a boy who literally cry because of a wolf disguised in sheep’s clothing.

In line with the implementation of Republic Act No. 10533, otherwise known as Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (K to 12 Law), the Department of Education (DepEd) is adopting the enclosed Policy Guidelines on Awards and Recognition for the K to 12 Basic Education Program. These awards have been designed to formally recognize the outstanding performance and achievement of learners in academics, leadership, and social responsibility, among other aspects of student progress and development. These awards are given to encourage learners to strive for excellence and to become proactive members of the school and community.
Grades without knowledge, is like a batsman going to a cricket field without a bat to play a cricket match.
The fact that a student scores a centum without any mistakes and a student who scores 90 replete with several mistakes grouped together can make the centum holder to get de-motivated. This will dampen the spirits of the hard worker to get mediocre grades itself, as he or she will know that irrespective of the grades, they are going to be placed in the cream students section only.
As good as the intentions of implementing the new honor roll system may be, this has caused problems in some students complaining about their recognition. To begin with, the new honor roll system doesn’t instil a sense of competition. When all that is required is a mere pass mark, we would neither have the urge to outperform others nor do we want to excel with the overall grades. We can be only satisfied that we are okay enough in studies, which will make us go lazy.
The increasing tension between President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Leila De Lima should stop. They should put a stop to their quarrel and start being professionals and serve our country peacefully.

On the other hand, De Lima has launched a senate inquiry on the President Duterte’s aggressive war on drugs that led to the killings of almost a thousand drug pushing suspects without due process.

Teachers are believed to be one of the unsung heroes of our countries, and so I’m glad on how Education Secretary Leonor Briones look on the strong possibility of increasing the salary of public school teachers to P39,000 a month. Even though there are several disadvantages of the new system, it has removed several disadvantages of the marking system as a recent survey has shown that with the advent of the grading system the number of students who give sufficient importance to education has got drastically reduced as this notion stems from the fact that the grades are a fleeting sort of thing and are able to fetch only in the short-term and have no use in the long run. Especially when these students appear to college entrance examinations with these grades and a nil amount of knowledge, these grades will not speak on behalf of them. The schools should also come forward to implement some changes in their already designed curriculum to insert some changes that makes the students to get procative in order to learn in a meaningful way so that the concept remain with them all through their life.
As long as schools carry on to allocate their grades, with non-meaningful consequences, like a class rank or a top to down scorer method or any other name sake methods, fastened to them, students will keep on believing that the grades are the ultimate purpose of studying and getting a good one will only determine their life and will lead them to pursue their lives in the right way.
The leaders of country must be our model and good examples, they shouldn’t be the one to start quarrels in our country.

In this modern world, many teenagers or youth are getting involved in crimes such as robbery, murder and illegal drugs. And worst, some were being abused, raped or even killed. This dilemma involving minors continues to be a conflict in the Philippines.
Juvenile Delinquency
Last July 2016, curfew ordinances in Manila, Quezon City, and Navotas were implemented by city police units under the “Oplan Rody” (Rid the streets Of Drunkards and Youth) by detaining children, youth, shirtless men roaming streets at midnight. Although, after few days, the Supreme Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on the implementation of the curfew. At the same time, the high court ordered the three local government units to comment on the petition filed by the “Samahan ng Progresibong Kabataan” (SPARK).
The youth group said that the implementation of the curfew ordinances is contrary to the Republic Act No. 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act. Under the RA 9344 , curfew violations are considered status offenses. Status offenses are offenses which discriminate only against a child, while an adult does not suffer any penalty for committing similar acts. These shall include curfew violations, truancy, parental disobedience and the like.
According to the petitioners, curfew ordinances is “unconstitutional, vague, unjust and repressive”. It deprive minors of their right to liberty and travel. Also, their parent were deprived in their natural and primary right in rearing their children. But how come that curfew

Most of the youth or millenials does not really know what curfew is. The culture of spending night times in karaoke bars, 24 hour inter net shops, eateries, nightouts and overnight gigs or elsewhere

As a part of the youth, why shouldn’t we have it? What do we have to do at 12:00 midnight that we couldn’t at 8:00 in the evening? Most teens don’t really have a reason to be out loittering in the streets at night anyway.
If curfew ordinances would not be implemented again in our barangays, cities and even nationwide, the lives of many minors would be in jeopardy. Some would be involve in crimes, drugs, thus committing juvenile delinquency. Is this what our parents, government and society wants to happen?

Millions of people who uses a bunch of ‘expensive’ energy each and everyday. The nuclear plant resting in Bataan must be opened for more efficient and cheaper electricity for the Filipino people.
Bataan Nuclear power plant is a nuclear power plant that is completed but never fueled, on Bataan Peninsula. It is located on a 3.57 square kilimetre government reservation at Napot Point in Morong Bataan. It was the Philippines’ only attempt at building a nuclear plant.
The Philippine nuclear program started in 1958 with the creation of the Philippine Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) under Republic Act. 2067. Under the regime of marcial law, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos. In July 1973 announced the decision to build a nuclear power plant. Marcos believed nuclear power to be the solution to meeting the country’s energy demands.
The Philippines is reviving its nuclear power program as it hosts a three-day international nuclear energy conference aimed to help the country make a well-informed decision on nuclear power development. And as of what Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said during his speech in the International Nuclear Conference, nuclear is seen as a viable choice for the country’s energy needs because it is high on productivity and reliability, low on cost and emissions, and efficient in the long term. We surely agree to his statement for it was one of the ways for us to have more affordable energy.
The Bataan Nuclear Power Plant built in the 1980s has a capacity of 620 megawatts (MW), large enough to produce and support the power sufficiency of the Philippines.
Energy Secretary Cusi said that the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant will be inspected to determine its present status, while there will be different discussions on the facility during the conference. Inspecting the power plant is a good step for us to be sure that the plant is still safe to be used.
Based on the latest statistics of a website called www.worldometer.com the current population of the philippines is 102,740,086 as of October 27, 2016. The population had grown so big that some of the powerplants are failing to work and reaches red alert, due to power shortage and other system malfunction. Our country badly needs more energy to support our population rate.
In the past months of 2016, our country, especially Luzon, experienced power shortages. Based on the statement of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) power outages were due to severe power deficiency in the grid and they have raised red alert in the Luzon grid several times.Other plants in the Luzon have failed, too, the Meralco plants and the government-owned Malaya 1 plant was unable to synchronize due to fuel oil heater tube leak. We need the opening of the nuclear plant to prevent more power deficiencies because our current plants are not enough to produce the power needed in our country.
Meralco also had implemented manual load dropping, or rotating blackouts for two to three hours within its franchise area. While Cagayan, Kalinga and Isabela had 12-hour blackouts. To prevent further power interruptions in the future the Bataan Plant must be opened and used.
The opening of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant is needed because nuclear power is cost-efficient and a long-lasting source of energy. In our search of alternative source of energy, it is timely to reactivate the nuclear plant. In addition, a lot of Philippine money has already been poured to it, Marcos even received $80 million in kickbacks from the builder Westinghouse. Poor taxpayer are still paying taxes over a white elephant that was not only mothballed but also destined to rust, unless it will be rehabilitated and put into good use.
However, experts and other Filipinos are worried for it was dangerous because it was placed near the Mt. Natib, a dormant volcano and is surrounded by two more volcanoes, the Mt. Pinatubo and Mt. Mariveles. There is also a fault line southward across the volcano for seven kilometers before disappearing beneath the sea, passing less than a kilometer away from the plant based on the satellite images of Bataan and surrounding provinces. Nevertheless, Japan is also in the Earthquake belt and belongs to the Pacific Ring of Fire yet it relies on nuclear energy. In fact it has 53 nuclear plants while we don’t have one, no wonder why they are more progressive.
The Bataan Nuclear plant is needed to be rehabilitated because it will solve our looming power crisis, lower down the price of electricity in our country and generate more jobs. If it is reactivated and operated, the Philippines may suddenly surge to economic stability as energy is the key to progress in the modern world.
The plant has been there for about 30 years, our government had poured millions or even billion to construct it, all we need now is to rehabilitate it. We just need to reconstruct its electrical and mechanical systems and we will be able to solve a lot of our country’s problems.
Reactivactivating the nuclear plant would be our big step to our economic progress and for us to be able to be globally competitive. But of course the government should be strictly careful because taking this step is a risk, so they must follow safe measures and study very well the ways to make it safe for each and everyone of us.

They have posters of other endangered animals in an old bulletin board but I doubt if anyone notices it. I really do hope the DENR experts are doing their best in this center. Still, it’s nice to be able to see animals that I haven’t seen before and to know that they will not be here forever.
This is the kind of October morning no other month can touch: a world tinted in water color pastels of redbud, dogtooth violet, and gentle rain. The trees are beginning to shrug off winter. The road winds through deep forest at Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center.
A few months ago, after the first day of the Division Secondary Schools Press Conference (DSSPC), we went to the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City. I was thrilled by the thought that there is a place like this near the QC Circle. I later found out that it used to be a go-to place for families living near the area. Today, it’s an alternative to the La Mesa Ecopark and popu lar among photography enthusiasts.
It’s a zombie movie that, amidst the giddy bloodshed, allows room for philosophical questions about our fundamental responsibilities to one another. It may not be something we’ve never seen before, but it’s something we can benefit from seeing again.
We’ve seen zombies in shopping malls. We’ve seen zombies ravage post-apocalyptic London. We’ve seen zombies killed by cricket bats. We’ve seen zombies fighting sharks.
But let me have a recap of the movie.

Assuming the deer is dead, he wearily drives away as the deer suddenly props up back to life revealing it is infected. This is when all the panic settles in. I'll admit it though, for me personally, the film does lack a lot of fear factors that the 'Walking Dead' series offers up but as a fan of such zombie thrillers, 'Train to Busan' offers up an appealing rush of suspense and anxiety throughout the film. But it is the killer story line that keeps the move interesting.
Inside there’s the PAWB-Wildlife Rescue Center that serves as a temporary refuge for donated, rescued, abandoned and confiscated animals for quarantine and rehabilitation. Those deemed fit enough will be released back into their natural habitats while those unfit and exotic animals are put in the mini-zoo in the name of academics, scientific research and awareness. Honestly, I had mixed feelings with this short day trip. It’s an amazing experience yet a bit heartbreaking. But of course, you’ll get the full experience when you go there yourself. It was a very small area, most of it was restricted to the public, most probably for vets, biologists and researchers. There are lots of animals in cages like birds, blue-balled monkeys and humongous snakes. I caught a glimpse of the most colorful and nicest lizards I ever saw— the Philippine Sailfin Lizard. Too bad it’s in this cage alone and not out in the wild. It looks so much better in person with its Aztec

There are three Philippine Brown Deers. There’s more than one big cage with birds you never saw before. There’s a huge and open cage full of eagles flying. It’s like those overhead aquariums, only this one’s a bit more open so I’d be careful of feces if I were you. It’s not a normal sight to see eagles this close and grounded since they normally live high up and are in flight. Alas, we have reached the most majestic animal in the park- the Haring Ibon (Haribon) or the Philippine Eagle. The Wildlife Center is its home and it sits alone. This agila is one of the
lucky ones to be sponsored for a cage renovation a few years ago.
The park is definitely something we would visit again in any day when it’s less hot in the Metro Manila. I just hope we’d go back and get to talk to someone more knowledgeable about the park the next time so that we can ask the questions and know more about the wildlife situation here. We’d also be more prepared with some snacks, drinks, umbrella and extra camera batteries.

Unspoken Feelings Poetry

"You won our battle and left me lying with the weapons I didn't get the chance to use," I uttered my last words. The crowd applauded as the light faded out. This is what I got myself into since the day she left; spoken word poetry. Spoken word poetry is writing that is meant to be read out loud, it relies on a heavy use of rhythm, improvisation, rhymes, word play and slang. I headed home and wrote the feelings I could speak tomorrow or the following days.
Time passed and passed with me just speaking my feelings out each and every day. Thoughts of what we were, what we should have been, what I was when she was not still there, when she came, when she vanished. I think out loud in front of people, in an open mic.
In days, weeks, and months, I write and speak it all out hoping that maybe, just maybe with every word leaving my mouth, the feeling of emptiness she has left me with will leave too. It didn't. Instead, with every expression, it only breaks me more, and it only increases the bleeding inside me for I can only hope she will hear me and come back to heal me.
This is my last poem for the night. Eyes closed, I ended it with, "words are my only weapon in our battle but before I even
had the chance to toss them to you, you have already walked away and went off to where my words could not reach you. Given the chance to say at least few of my words to you, I would say I need you and I can't afford losing you. Darling, let me talk to you." As applause of the crowd filled my ears, I took a deep breath and slowly opened my eyes.
Shock, excitement, and bewilderedness are the feelings that came along as my eyes met a pair I wasn't expecting but been hoping to see.
In the midst of the café, there sat alone, gazing at me, is the girl of my poetries. A hint of guilt flashed on her eyes and I knew then that she knows that she is the girl of my poetries. With cautious steps, I bravely made my way to her.
My mind went blank as I stand face to face with the same pair of dark brown eyes I haven't seen in a long time. My breath hitched for the nth in the past five seconds.
"H-hi. Are you with someone? Would you mind if I sit with you?" I asked, my voice surprisingly flat.
It took her almost a minute of staring into me before she answered, "I'm with no one. And I don't mind, not at all," she offered me a smile.
For the first time in a long time, I'm at lost for words.
The sun is shining so brightly, it was literally smiling widely at me. I can feel the humid air coming towards me. Holding a book in my left hand and a pen in my right hand, I started to open the book. “Stupid is forever, huh?” I said to myself.

“Ignorance can be cured. Stupid is forever.” Who can forget this tagline of the book I’m currently reading made by the Iron Lady of Asia, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago?
Sadly she is already with Him but she never forgot to leave a great legacy; a legacy no one could ever imagine.
One of the things we could never forget about her are her so called ‘hugot’ lines. There were a lot to choose from. You could hear them on TV, see them on social media and also being quoted by different people from different walks of life. Her words were feared by colleagues and loved and adored by many. One of the quotes that really hit me was, “being nice to people you hate is not being plastic… It’s called respect and making yourself educated.” A lot of times we would just opt to ignore or
sometimes say bad things to people we hate. This is a norm for most of us but the quote proved what kind of character this admirable woman has. Her wits and words added color and sense to our confused minds and beliefs. If I were one of her enemies, I would also be scared. Just watch how frightening the words coming out from her mouth were.
In her 71 years of existence, she proved herself worthy of a throne she never had. She really is the best president we will never have.
Apart from famous political quotes she said, she is also known for her funny monologues. The laughter inside a room is like a contagious disease no one could avoid. We all know that a person like her will never be forgotten. She stood up alongside justice with her colleagues for so many years. Stating things that cleanse dirty minds of the countrymen.
Now, it’s our time. Remember and keep the glory of the person who always likes to ‘hugot’ during meetings. The one and only, Miriam Defensor Santiago.
Heartbeat from the Past

The rain was falling so hard yet it stayed beautiful. It only enhanced the physical features and it looked more magical. It’s amazing how it kept its beauty for more than a hundred years. What am I talking about?
It’s the one and only Katipunan tree.
Katipunan tree is a duhat tree inside the premises of Metro Manila College in Novaliches, Quezon City. In the early months of 1896, this tree served as shade to Katipuneros during various meetings. It witnessed the gallantry of the Katipuneros held by Gat Andres Bonifacio.
I was observing the Katipunan tree when I found a 36 year-old marker beneath it saying something about the tree. After I read what it says, I was left with my mouth wide open. “It really is amazing,” I said to myself. The 36 year-old marker reads: ”This tree was a mute witness to historic events. This very site where it stands was once a wooded hill which was a staging area of the Katipuneros during the Philippine Revolution. Under this tree, the Katipuneros held meetings, treated their wounded. Andres Bonifacio founder of the Kati puneros was here on several occa sions.” Melchora Aquino also known as "Tandang Sora" also tended to wound ed freedom fighters under this very tree. I talked to the people around me to know more about it and learned that the tree originally measures six meters in diameter and about 50 meters in height but due to its old age, it has actually been reduced to about 25 feet. Despite its old age, the tree continues to bear fruits every summer.
After knowing these things, I remembered what District V Councilor Jose A. Visaya once said in his speech, that it is important to create massive awareness among the young generation that there is a living and existing historical tree that witnessed the historical past of the Philippine Revolution and men and women who sacrificed their

I cannot imagine a world where there was a total absence of color. Not enough to give appreciation to landscapes and seascapes, the shades of green and blue and as the world without music, harmony and melodies, life would be definitely empty.

Whenever this song plays on my playlist and hears a single drop of its beat, hollow suddenly hits me as I picture myself loving unconditionally even if it’s against the world.
“Wild” is a defiance single by the Australian singer-songwriter Troye Sivan from his debut album, Blue Neighborhood. Wild is a white noise in my mind and I won’t calm down as the beat starts. It can make your heart shake, bend and break and definitely will drive you wild.

I remember before he got locked away in permanent slumber, he looked at me in the eye and mouthed, “He is fighting for us, our God is great.” I wanted to blame the government for not letting my mom explain and for not telling us those information that would’ve helped us. But now, it’s getting clearer. I was drowning, but nobody saw me struggle— not until a hand held, telling me to not give up. And when I’m falling deeper, He held on even tighter. And by that, I could say that our God is really alive.

But who are you to judge when you’re a diamond in the rough.
2015 when we proved hundreds of countries wrong when our country won the annual Miss Universe pageant. It was the night things changed. Our confidently beautiful representative, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach showed the world—the universe rather, that having just beauty is never enough. It has to be accompanied by a heart for a complete package.
You’re sure we got some things we like to change about ourselves. But when it comes to us, we wouldn’t want to be anybody else!
couldn’t imagine why did this happen to “US”. The bonding, crazy stuffs and memories we had for almost six years is now slowly fading away. How ironic life was. I never knew that my best friend will become as my scariest enemy.

Tonight we’ll stand, get up our knees. Fight for what we’ve worked for all these years. When the battle was long, it’s the fight for our country. And we’ll stand up champions tonight. Iwas riding a trike on my way home when drizzle started falling on the pavement. The moonlight brightens as the rainfall gets heavier. I jumped off the trike and entered our subdivision. The coldness devoured the lonely atmosphere causing memories to start playing back.
It felt strange.
I had encountered a scenario like this before; where I was walking home from school alone. You saw me pass by the playground where you practice. You ran to me and offered to accompany me so I can get home safe.
It felt strange.
Strange not because it happened before; but because I am also walking home alone, without any presence of you anymore.
Smiles became tears.
Good night texts became sleepless nights.
And you… became a memory. I always have my umbrella with me, but funny how I resisted using it in hopes of you coming back, running to me once again and sharing me yours; despite knowing you’re long gone. Knowing, not accepting. I realized why did it hurt too much and why should I not feel this way anymore. I told myself I’m dumb to think that you’ll come once more and stand beside me under your umbrella. Things will never go back to the way it used to be.
Strangely enough, I brought my umbrella out sighed deep, and continued on life.

Last October 25, 2016, a female student of De La Salle University reportedly fell to her death inside a building. The LaSallian, DLSU’s official student publication, said a staircase in Brother Andrew Gonzalez Hall was impassable at around 5:33 PM due to an unidentified incident however, social media reports said it was due to a female student who jumped off the 20th floor of the University building. Some even said that the student jumped because of depression due to failed grades.

Many are able to keep a façade of good mental and physical health to protect themselves but they aren’t suffering any less simply because they can hide what they feel. They tend to keep the feelings that cause them to be depressed.
Shout! Say what you feel. Just like the thing they always say, shouting is one of the best ways to loosen up, to decrease the tension, the pressure and depression you feel.

Depressed people tend to make decisions that are not right as it is one of the reasons why people decide to end their lives. The feeling of helplessness, hopelessness, restlessness. This can happen at any age and those are facts we cannot ignore. As the population of people encountering this kind of mental disorder, people started to move by making organizations to rehabilitate those who acquired this wherein they can share everything that causes them to be depressed.

The apocalypse is approaching, creeping slowly, sneaking discretely, which affect the present and future. Sooner or later, this infection will make our lives wretched. Moreover, it may also vanquish our security and devastate our society. This present-day-zombie apocalypse will send shivers to our spines, goose bumps in our skin and nightmare when we are sleeping, much more; Zika virus had already arrived to our country.
At the onset, Zika virus might not look like a serious disease compared to cancer and tuberculosis. It is characterized by fever lasting for two to seven days, rashes, joint pain, head ache and pain behind the eyes. Other symptoms include muscle pain, conjunctivitis and vomiting. It seems to be a mild illness right? But it isn’t.
Zika, as a mosquito-borne virus, can infect a bunch of people in just a bit of time through transmitting the virus with just a bite of infected mosquito. Sometimes, the infected patient could also infect someone by having sexual contact with each other. It is an infection caused by flavivirus which can be found in tropical countries with big mosquito population.

Moreover, this record makes us more anxious because this plague already reached Metro Manila, added to the fact that it is carried by mosquito.
Researchers, authorities, and the Department of Health (DOH) conducted an initial ultrasound to check any detectable fetal abnormalities, particularly in the Central Nervous System of the pitiful creature inside the patient’s womb. There were no abnormalities detected in the fetus’ health, but it is too early to be complacent now.

· Poor Sleeping Habits.
According to National Sleep Foundation, students who don't have healthy sleeping habits or don't get enough sleep at night are more likely to feel stressed than students who get plenty of sleep. Sleeping is very important to a student for it allows student's body and brain to recharge. It also helps to keep student's immune system strong. Inadequate sleep can limit a student's ability concentrate and learning. The recommended sleep for a young people is 8.5 to 9.75 hours per schedule.
· Full Schedules.
According to Tom Loveless of the Brown Center on Education Policy at the Brookin Institution, even if a student who doesn't have loads of hoomework, he/she may also experience stress due to overscheduling and overstinulation. Loveless shares that full schedules can stress a student's brain to impair with his/ her ability to learn. In CQ Researcher, family therapist Michael Guria suggests allowing a child to be "bored" for one hour a day.
· Poor Eating Habits.
Poor nutrition and unhealthy eating habits can increase a student's stress level, according to Physician Committee for Responsible Medicine. Foods that increase stress level are those that are high in fat, caffeine, sugar and refined carbohydrates. These are foods that can be found in convenience stores and fast foods.
· Academic Pressure.
In CQ Researcher, Professor Wendy A. Patterson shares that academic standards placed in schools are cause of an increase amount of stress experienced by a student. According to Denise Clark Pope of Stanford University, the pressure that students feel from parents and schools raises their stress levels so high. The bad thing here, to cope up with the pressure, some high-achieving students resort to cheating.
High levels of stress can hinder a student's ability to learn and earn good grades. It can also lead the student to poor physical, emotional and mental health. Do not ignore a student's stress, instead, let us cut down stress in a student's life.

First, let’s take the basics. Electric Cigarettes are battery-operated devices that looks like a real cigarette. They have containers filled with liquid that’s usually made of nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals. A heating device turns the liquid into vapor that you inhale when you take a drag. There are hundreds of brands, and they’re sometimes marketed as a way to get your nicotine fix without the danger of cigarettes.
This kind of inhalers creates an aerosol, commonly called as vapor, generally containing nicotine, flavorings, glycerol and propylene glycol. Dogs and their owners share happiness and love through playing and bonds. It can also be through cuddling and taking good care of them, making them a great companion. But scientists state love was all passed when they stare at each other.
New research shows that when our dogs stare into our eyes, they activate a hormonal response—the same response that bonds us and human infants, making the connection between them stronger.
Oxytocin, a hormone that plays a role in maternal bonding, trust and altruism was said increases when the dog and its owner catch the eye of another. Scientist saw an oxytocin increase in the
dog and its owner who has spent much time gazing at each other.
The research suggest that human-dog interactions elicit the same type of oxytocin positive feedback loop as seen between mothers and infants, and that in turn, may explain why we feel so close to our dogs, and vice versa. It also stated that female dogs release more oxytocin for the reason that it plays a greater role in female reproduction, being important during labor and lactation.

IAMI - Too much television-watching in young adulthood could lead to cognitive problems in mid-life, suggested a study Wednesday that tracked more than 3,000 people for 25 years.

processing speed, executive function and verbal memory. Low levels of physical activity and lots of television-watching were linked to slower processing speed and worse executive function, the study found.

Cannabis sativa or marijuana is known as one of the psychoactive drugs which are destructive when overrated, yet some people are not aware that this illegal drug actually contains more possibility to treat a cancer patient faster.
Among the 400 chemicals found in Cannabis, one of it was studied and proven to contain benefits: cannabinoids. Cannabinoids reduces nausea and vomiting during chemotherapies, improves HIV/ AIDS patient's appetite, and treats chronic pain and muscle spasms. Looking at smartphone in the dark bad for eyes
Warning: Two women went temporarily blind from constantly checking their phones in the dark, say doctors who are now alerting others to the unusual phenomenon. Solution: Make sure to use both eyes when looking at your smartphone screen in the dark.
In Thursday’s New England journal of medicine, doctors detailed the cases of the two women ages 22 and 40, who experienced “transient” smartphone blindness for months. The women complained of recurring episodes of temporary vision loss for up to 15 minutes.
They were subjected to variety of medical exams, MRI scans and heart tests. Yet doctors could not find anything wrong with them to explain the problem.
But minutes after walking into an eye specialist’s office, the mystery was solved.
“I simply asked them, “What exactly were you doing when this happened?” recalled Dr. Gordon Plant of Moorfield’s Eye Hospital in London.
He explained that both women typically looked at their smartphones with only one eye while resting on their side in bed in the dark – their other eye was covered by pillow.

Many Filipinos die because of the harmful effects it bring. Smoking leads to diseases like lung cancer, heart attacks, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), tuberculosis, erectile dysfunction, and birth defects. Due to the increasing rate of death because of smoking, an executive order (EO) banning smoking in all public places nationwide is passed to the Office of the President and is ready for signature. Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Paulin Ubial said President Duterte directed her to include "two very important" provisions in the draft EO: First is a 100 percent smoke-free environment just like in Davao City when Duterte was the former mayor and All designated smoking areas should be outdoors and away from the public.
DOH hopes that this EO will be issued by the end of October before the full implementation of the Graphic Health Warnings Law. Under the Republic Act 10643 or the Graphic Health Warnings Law, retailers and sellers of tobacco products shall ensure the removal from their displays all noncompliant tobacco products man manufactured, imported, distributed or sold by them starting November 4. It is not too late to quit smoking for those who are addicted on it. There is plenty time to change. As a saying says, "Health is Wealth". Life is too short and we only live once. We must better take care of our health so we can achieve our dreams and live a long quality life. Would you risk your life to a cigarette stick just to satisfy yourself?

In what could be the most shocking news to hit the PBA this year is the unexpected and biggest trade deal between two-time MVP, 7-time PBA Champion, and PBA Grandslam Champion of 2014, James Yap of Star Hotshots who has been traded to 2-time PBA Champion, Paul Lee of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on October 13, 2016. This trade shocked the Philippine basketball world as Yap gave up his loyalty on Star Hotshots, the franchise where he won all of his awards and where he played for his entire career.
Yap, at age 34, is now near at the end of his career and he has been prone to injuries for the past PBA Seasons. He has not contributed much for the Star Hotshots also because of his off the
court problems.
This year, James Yap only averages 11.6 points per game which is the lowest in his PBA career. Somehow, Big Game James’ experience is what matters most for Rain or Shine. He is still a PBA Legend and his skillset might change the game for ROS and its new coach and players.
On the other hand, Lee as one of PBA’s top guard, had a better year with the Elasto Painters as he clinched the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup Finals MVP and won the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup Championship.
But Lee obviously is not interested with the Rain or Shine anymore because of Coach Yeng Guiao’s departure. Paul Lee being traded is a good thing for himself and somehow for the organization of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

an Miguel Beermen Center, June Mar Fajardo, received his 3rd Most Valuable Player Award during the 2016 PBA Leo Awards. For his 2015-16 PBA, Fajardo averaged 19.73 Points, 12.21 Rebounds, and 1.38 Blocks Per Game giving him the edge against MVP Runner-Ups Jason Castro and Calvin Abueva who also had a great year.
At age 26, Fajardo is the first PBA player to win the Most Valuable Award for three successive years. Winning the award, Fajardo now ties Bogs Adornado with three MVP Awards and he is one MVP Award away to join Ramon Fernandez and Alvin Patrimonio, both 4-time PBA MVPs and PBA Legends. He is also the first PBA Player to win the award for 3 consecutive years.
June Mar Fajardo is still young and as seen in this year on his career, he has been consistent and he kept improving from year to year. Comparing his stats for the very beginning of his PBA Career, June Mar’s numbers kept increasing at an obvious rate. Every Year, Fajardo also keeps adding more moves to his game such as his development of his jump shot and post-making plays.
This Yap-Lee trade was a good one nonetheless. Also, both teams made several management and staff changes for the upcoming 2016-2017 season wherein new players for both teams would be a good fit for each rosters as new plays from new coaches would build-up and form.
There is still a long way for Paul Lee to become a much better point guard in the Star Hotshots as he would possibly be the leader of the team’s backcourt and the whole team itself. And for James Yap, he would look forward in redeeming himself as his championship experiences would help the whole team to follow the tempo of Big Game’s style of play. Wish the best of luck for both teams and for the upcoming seasons ahead.

Philippines men’s doubles defeated Myanmar for gold at world takraw tournament

hilippines defeated 2015 gold medallist Myanmar to be the champion of the 31st King’s Cup Sepak Takraw World Championships on Friday night in Thailand.
The team of Jason Huerte, Rheyjey Ortouste, and Mark Gonzales eliminated Singapore, Australia, Chinese Taipei, and Indonesia during the elimination round of the tournament. The team has defeated the Thailand team with the score of 15-21, 22-20, 21-19 during the semifinal round. Then comes the finals of the tournament, Philippines won over Myanmar by scoring 12-21, 21-19, 21-17 before taking home the gold medal for our country.
Being the first country to defeat Thailand’s former King’s Cup champions was a huge win for the team and for the Philippines. The Thailand team took home the gold medal during last year’s King’ cup as the silver medal was awarded to South Korea and the bronze medal to Philippines and Myanmar.
The Philippine Men’s Team will also take home a silver medal during the men’s team event and a bronze for the Women’s national team for the women’s hoop event at the 31st King’s Cup Sepak Takraw Tournament sanctioned by the world governing body in the sport of the sepak takraw, the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTAF).
Karen Tanchanco-Caballero, the president of the Philippine Amateur Sepak Takraw Association (PASTA), told the DZSR Sports Radio during an interview on Saturday that their hardwork for years caused them to receive respect from the world of sepak takraw.
Asian Sepak Takraw Federation vice president Tanchanco-Caballero also hoped that Philippines would give love and support to the Sepak Takraw National Team.
Tanchanco-Caballero said through her Facebook account, “It’s a strong, strong week for the sepak takraw Philippine delegation. Glad to be part of the team that would be taking sepak takraw in Asia to the next level.”

he Palis Sagasa Arnis Pilipino team of Novaliches High School emerged the victor in the recently concluded DepEd Sports Unit Meet held last October 21, 2016 at the Holy Child Academy, Gulod, Novaliches, Quezon City.
The NHS-Palis Sagasa won 7 Gold and 2 Silver against the North Fairview Arnis Team in the eliminations for the right to represent Congressional District (CD) 5 in the forthcoming Inter-Unit (formerly called Division) Meet to be held sometime in November.

The Girls Team, composed of Samantha Lacuesta (Gr 8-Diligence), Frankie Miles Aquino (Gr 8-Justice), Geraldin Guintao (Gr 8-Confidence), Maricris Anasarias (Gr 8-Justice) and Norie Saban (Gr 10-St.Anne) automatically qualified to the Inter-Unit Meet due to a none contest rule when North Fairview failed to produce their competing Girls team.
The Boys Team, led by Christian Jay Torio (Gr 10-St. Patrick), John Ray Dacumos (Gr 10-St. Christopher) and twins Jayson Romaraog (Gr 10-St. Thomas) and Jay Romarag (Gr.10-St. Francis) proceeded to battle it out with their opponents with both newbies Torio and Jay Romaraog overcoming their respective opponents. Dacumos and Jayson Romaraog, however, failed to make it past their tormentors. Though NHS and North Fairview were tied for Gold with 2 a-piece, a student from St. Theresa’s School, a private school also belonging to CD-5, was adopted by North Fairview to their team paving the way for North Fairview to be named as Coach for the Boys Team and NHS Palis Sagasa Coach and Mapeh Teacher II GM Sony P. Sy as the Boys Trainer.
The Girls team, however, will be coached by GM Sy with Mrs. Jayziel Mallo-Queddeng, Mapeh Teacher I of NHS named as its Trainer.
