‘Songket’ is inspired by and derives its name from a type of traditional southeast Asian silk textile often used for sarongs, that feature intricate patterns created by brocaded weft yarns, often in gold. Our multihued version is woven with fine cotton strié yarns and has a design of richly patterned bands across its width. Its supple hand makes it suitable for both curtain panels and upholstery uses.

Created using Tony Duquette’s archival door panels from the famous “Elsie de Wolfe Cabinet” which he created for Elsie de Wolfe, Lady Mendle in 1941. These iconic carved plaster have been mirrored and paired as a series of recurring patterns with the fantasy “Tony Duquette Foliage”. Seated and standing figures, so beloved by de Wolfe, were repeatedly used by Duquette in his work.

LAMIAD, another ancient Thai word that means “gentle”, is represented by an intense, four-ply silk with closely woven, heavily slubbed threads that create an interesting balance between sheen and mat. Chiang Rai Ikat is a modern take on traditional ikat motifs, recreating a classic pattern in a dramatically enlarged scale for a bold, graphic look. This classic tiger skin velvet is a nod to all things Thai and to Tony Duquette’s fascination with exotic animal patterns. As a frequent visitor to Thailand and a personal friend of Jim Thompson’s, Tony Duquette once referred to himself in an article for Vogue Magazine as having been Thai in another life. Thaiger mixes plush cut and loop pile for a beautifully textured, vintage appearance, in neutral-natural shades of silver grey, sepia and gold. The bold patterning is softened a bit at the edges with an ikat-like rendering.
