A MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN Dear Students, Alumni and Friends, Congratulations to all our graduating seniors! Graduation marks the end of a long journey and yet, it is the beginning of an exciting new chapter. We are very proud of all that you have achieved, especially during these difficult and uncertain times. To get to this point, you were tested, and with compassion and tenacity, you continued to achieve this incredible milestone. Our wish for all of you is to find your passion, contribute to something bigger than yourself, be kind and take care of yourselves and others. We know you will come out of this crisis stronger and better prepared to face the future.

We know that all of YOU, our entrepreneurship students in every major, more than anyone else, have had experience in overcoming obstacles, figuring out creative solutions to trying problems and creating new and innovative ideas that move society to achieve a better world for us all. We want to encourage all our students to be leaders, join the JMC Student Board, clubs and organizations, participate in competitions, pitch nights, homecoming activities, apply to be part of our incubator program, and volunteer to be part of our podcast and newsletter committees. We have so much to offer and want you to be part of it.

As you read through this, our Fourth Edition of the JMC Newsletter you will see that there is always something new and exciting happening and more than ever, we want all of you to be part of it. In this issue, as in our previous issues, we have shone the spotlight on some of our student leaders who have not only contributed in the classroom, but also contributed to the growth and well-being of the JMC. Please keep in touch with us, through our Jim Moran College LinkedIn and Facebook sites, over email, or better yet, come back to visit us! We want you to let us know what you are doing, help us to mentor new groups of students and brag on all your accomplishments. And if you are interested in pursuing a graduate degree, we can help you achieve your dreams.

CALVIN SIEROTA | RETAIL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

What are your career goals & how has JMC & your major supported those?

For my career goals, aside from professional golf, I would love to one day be able to collaborate and design with some of the best creatives in the world. I would love to be at a company who is constantly pushing the boundaries of design, footwear, and apparel and has a big impact on the culture of fashion. The resources we have available through JMC & on campus allows us to get more experience in our field. We are very fortunate to have the textile lab and the innovation center with the 3D printers at our disposal, as well as the high tec mannequin for textile testing.

DACIA WILLIAMS | SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

What advice would you give to students getting ready to apply to the JMC? A wise teacher once said that “you can’t find balance on a bike until you start pedaling.” There’s never a right time to begin anything so there’s no point in waiting. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, don’t be afraid to challenge things and most importantly don’t be afraid to start.

What are your career goals?

Immediately after graduation I hope to go into Public Administration or become a Community Manager, translating and implementing policies for citizens in local communities. Currently, I am developing a social enterprise and movement that addresses the stigma surrounding periods in young teen girls. I hope that my product and platform will help teens better understand their cycle and ways of taking care of it while in school.

KAITLYN KILLEEN | COMMERCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

What is your favorite thing about the JMC/Major so far?

My favorite thing about the Commercial Entrepreneurship major and the Jim Moran College overall is the amazing staff. Every professor I have this semester has provided an incredible learning environment. Each professor truly cares about their students and wants to see them succeed. I have never felt this close to any professors in the past, and I think this says a lot, especially with the times we are currently living in. If my professors’ passion can be communicated through a Zoom call and behind some masks, I know they are truly caring, enthusiastic people. Every day in this major is exciting, and that can be entirely credited to these amazing professors. They make me excited to be an entrepreneur. They make me excited to go to class. They encourage me to be creative and develop my own goals.

“Professor” does not do these individuals justice. They are mentors, role models, and even friends. I am so incredibly lucky to have been introduced to these people, and I am so excited for their involvement as I build my knowledge and craft my business.

NADIA LOVE TEXTILES AND APPAREL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

What is your favorite thing about the JMC Master's program so far?

My favorite thing about the JMC and the master's program is how open all the faculty are to mentorship and helping students to succeed in any way they can. I have always felt extremely supported by this program and have really enjoyed my time getting to hear and learn from my professor's experience and knowledge. This support has helped me to achieve many things in my college career and I know it will help me after graduation as well.

What are your career goals?

After graduation I would like to pursue a career in quality assurance or textile research and development. During my time at FSU, I have had the pleasure of working in the textile lab with Dr. McQuerry and it made me realize my passion for research and quality. Another one of my passions is sustainability so in my career I would love to work for companies focused around those ideals as well.

What have you enjoyed most this fall?

This fall I have really enjoyed all the interactions I have had with my cohort in the program. Although most of our interactions have been virtual, all my peers have been very welcoming and great to interact with. Everyone has been super supportive and helpful, and I look forward to getting to know and work with everyone in the industry one day as well. I am lucky I have such an incredible group of women to go through this program with.

the JMC now offers a major in STEM entrepreneurship The STEM Entrepreneurship bachelor of science program embodies the foundations of entrepreneurship with the technical rigor and fundamentals from science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Students coming in to the STEM Entrepreneurship program will choose a focus area in STEM to take a deeper dive into the discipline of their choice. This deeper dive will consist of completion of the respective STEM department’s requirements for a minor or track.

Three additional specially designed courses are offered in this program that are aimed at further enhancing students' understanding, experience and skillsets with science entrepreneurship in the real world: STEM Computer Applications and Data Science Entrepreneurship, STEM Product Development and STEM Research Methods. Upon graduation, students will be equipped to begin their own STEM-based ventures, join other STEM ventures, begin careers with large corporations that focus on STEM-enabled offerings or move on to graduate degrees in entrepreneurship. The graduated students of the Jim Moran College STEM Entrepreneurship program represent a new breed of formally educated entrepreneurs that have the focus and abilities to work in the arena of innovating and commercializing science and technology.

What led you to start Equestrian Stylist?

I grew up riding and competing in the hunter/jumper equestrian sports and rode all over the nation. I won numerous national championships with many different ponies and horses over the years, so horses have been a passion of mine since a little girl. The fashion sense came from a young age when I still remember putting my show coat and riding boots on in the early mornings on the weekends for the horse shows. I couldn’t wait to “dress up” for the competitions and make sure my pony was ready for the show ring. I would draw horses and fashion illustrations in high school in my notebooks during history and math class (the boring ones, of course!)

Fast forward to college and I still remember sitting in Mr. Mac’s office when we were about to embark on our internship and he said to me, “Ashley, I know how you want to go into the corporate retail world, but I also see you being an Equestrian Stylist one day, an entrepreneur… Think about that…” I graduated during the downfall of the economy in 2009, and many internships and jobs were dropped. I ended up doing a visual merchandising internship in Palm Beach for Urban Outfitters and then went back to school for my MBA in Entrepreneurship while I worked as a part-time key holder manager for Lilly Pulitzer in Boca Raton. I learned that I wanted a job for myself that would be unaffected by the economy. I knew that I wanted to combine my love for horses and fashion and share it digitally. I still remember that time when I was searching GoDaddy for domain names and just by chance “equestrianstylist.com” was available! I knew it was meant to be. It’s been an exciting journey ever since!

What from the entrepreneurship program and FSU prepared you to launch Equestrian Stylist?

Oh wow, where do I start… FSU gave me such a great community from the beginning - I joined Alpha Chi Omega sorority and immediately felt connected to a group of driven and successful women. My sorority’s president at the time told me how great the Fashion Study Abroad program was, and I signed up as soon as I could. Studying in Paris, Milan, and London in the fashion program at FSU was my favorite experience during college and opened my eyes to fashion on a deeper level, especially the European trends and how they slowly filter over to the states once they hit the UK. The professors at FSU in the retail merchandising program were so inspiring both in the classroom and out. Learning about their experience in the real world and being able to get that hands on textile experience really helped me visualize how to create an overall brand look for Equestrian Stylist.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business? What has been your biggest challenge?

Most satisfying moment was watching American Pharoah cross the finish line in 2015 at the Breeders’ Cup - everything came together for me and my team that day from a social media standpoint. The biggest challenge? Knowing when to say “no” and walk away from business or partners that aren’t the right fit.

What key activities would you recommend aspiring entrepreneurs to invest their time in?

Invest in your health, both physically and mentally. I have ridden horses my entire life, and I think both physically and mentally that has kept me healthy, and even brought me through some of my health challenges over the years.

Reading industry news and being ‘ahead of the game’ is also important.

Remember that social media can be a good thing for business, but it can also be a downfall ‘time suck’. Don’t get stuck in the ‘endless scrolling’ activity, that wastes your time and can bring you down and cause you to start comparing.

Value your time, and use it to make a difference in your business and personal growth. Wake up and read something motivating each day and night. Keep up with your relationships that you value most, send thank you cards in the mail, wish Happy Birthday’s, talk to your neighbor on the airplane, you never know who you may meet.

How do you define success?

It all depends on the goal. I define success by achieving goals. If you are achieving your goals, you are successful. Don’t get me wrong, business isn’t always about success, either. I’ve definitely had my fair share of failures, but it always turns out for the right reasons. You learn from it, and you learn to persevere even harder.

What advice do you have for current and future students looking to launch their own business?

Persevere and never give up. My dad always told me, “never, ever give up, ever.” It’s always stuck with me. It’s so easy to get lost in social media and the endless cycle of comparing. Remind yourself why you started or why you are going to start the business and stick to your goals. Focus on your strengths and hire those that can fill your weaknesses. Remember to create a business or a job that you can rely on in a down economy.

NEW JMC FACULTY SPOTLIGHTS Changhyun (Lyon) Nam

Can you briefly tell us a little about your background?

I received my Doctoral degree, with a specialization in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design, and taught a few undergraduate-level courses (3D Designing and Patternmaking for Soft Good Product Development, Apparel Production Management, Technical Design Processes, Shoe Design, and Textile Science) at Iowa State University (ISU). I also have two Master's degrees: Retail Merchandising and Product Development at Florida State University (FSU) and Kinesiology in Physical Education at Hanyang University, South Korea. I obtained a patent titled “SkiSimulator” from the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

I have developed and demonstrated strengths with multiple academic experiences as a scholar during my career by being prepared, honest, and collaborative. Rosanna Catalano Can you briefly tell us a little about your background?

My varied background as a business owner, lobbyist, trial attorney, television news producer, professor, university associate dean, career coach, and chief agency administrator allows me to provide my clients with a unique perspective and skill set for solving problems, storytelling, and creating successful strategies. This same skill set comes in handy in the classroom setting as well.

What is your role within the JMC, courses you teach, etc.?

I am an adjunct teaching ENT4305 Entrepreneurship Law and Ethics. I have enjoyed applying the knowledge I've gained as an entrepreneur and attorney to my course.

What are your favorite things about teaching entrepreneurship students?

My students are bright and hardworking! I have been impressed with their level of engagement even through this pandemic. I love my students!

Britain Riley

Can you briefly tell us a little about your background?

I have 20 years of retail management and merchandising experience at various store levels within Gap, Inc., a global specialty retailer. While with Gap I severed as an ACSEND & Fit Intern Mentor, served on the HQ Customer Centric Taskforce and as a Regional Credit Champion. One of my favorite roles was the role of Regional Community Leader with Gap Foundation. In this role I worked to oversee company community and volunteer initiatives, events, grants, and gift match programs.

What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Prior to the pandemic, one would say my favorite past time was travel! One could always find me either planning my husband's and I’s next trip or blogging about a past adventure. With COVID19 putting a damper on any future travel my husband and I have spent more time both at home and at our family cabin. In addition to travel, I am an avid volunteer, I am passionate about giving back to the community where I work and live and these

Blake Geoghagan

Can you briefly tell us a little about your background?

I am somewhat of a Tallahassee native, having attended high school here and then attending FSU for my undergraduate degree in computer science. After graduation, I accepted a systems analyst job and moved to Atlanta, where I worked for a couple of years before returning to graduate school. I then entered management consulting, joining Ernst & Young as one of its first information technology consultants in the Atlanta practice.

Throughout my management consulting career, I have worked in three Big Four firms, most recently as a Deloitte principal practicing in the strategy and operations, e-business, and human capital areas. I served as the lead engagement partner leading multi-national teams assisting global Fortune 1,000 companies with strategy formulation, mergers and acquisitions, enterprise transformation, organizational change, and technology implementation initiatives.

As an entrepreneur and a franchisee to one of the world’s most successful quickservice restaurant concepts – Five Guys – I started a company in 2006 and negotiated, developed, and operated the largest contiguous geographical territory in the state of Florida. Additionally, I served as an initial board member on the Five Guys International Franchise Advisory Committee, sitting on numerous committees. In my capacity as the company owner, I manage the hiring, training, compensation, and career development of up to 300 staff members annually during peak season.

Lastly, I have three sons, all of whom attend FSU – two of them are working toward their undergraduate degrees. My oldest recently graduated from the Jim Moran College and is attending graduate school to pursue his MBA.

What is your role within the JMC, courses you teach, etc.?

I am a teaching faculty member and currently teach an undergraduate fundamentals of entrepreneurial strategy class and two graduate classes dedicated to strategy formulation and human resource management for entrepreneurs.

What are your favorite things about teaching entrepreneurship students?

I like hearing about their entrepreneurial ideas and discussing with them how to make those ideas a reality. I love watching students react to their “Ah-Ha!” moments – when aspects of topics we have discussed in class reappear at the most random moments.

I like when a student trusts me enough that they ask me to be their mentor or ask if they can stay in touch with me after the semester is over and they move on to their next semester or even transition to the next chapter in their lives after graduation. It’s nice to remain in contact over time and very rewarding to hear from them later and know that they are meeting with success and doing well.

A Great Year for Growth ELTHCEB HTEBAZILE YB

As 2020 is coming to a close and we reflect on the year, we should be proud of ourselves for what we, as a world and Nation, have endured and accomplished. From the Black Lives Matter movement, the election to hurricanes, wildfire outbreaks, and the coronavirus pandemic, almost every aspect of our lives has been affected in one way or another, and although forced upon us, growth and change have been put into motion more rapidly than ever before. The coronavirus has obviously made huge changes in the way that everyday life operates for adults, kids, students, parents, and professors alike, and from an outsider's perspective, the struggles of this semester’s online classes are seen and understood, but are not experienced. The virtual semester that we have been a part of goes far beyond the screen of Zoom and has greatly affected college students in every aspect from classes to extracurricular, family, and social life. So how has this pandemic really affected college students?

One of the biggest challenges that has presented itself this semester has been the struggle of social activity, mental health, and isolation. It is known that college is a time to be social and get involved, and although clubs, organization, and classes have tried to replicate that same social environment through Zoom and other platforms, it is just not the same. Trying to meet other people in your classes and build personal relationships through a screen was just never bound to work. One of the greatest things about college is learning from those around you, and especially in the Jim Moran College, collaboration is huge, as well as learning how to use your own strengths to your ability in team environments. Unfortunately, this year's juniors have not had the opportunity to meet their classmates and potential business partners in person. Having said that, we’re the generation that embraces technology and challenges ourselves, so the Jim Moran College Student Leadership Board has done its best to rise up and host events for students in the JMC college to meet each other. The Board hopes to gain more traction next semester.

The finer aspects of learning Zoom itself has also been a challenge. Junior Allison Pena in the Commercial Entrepreneurship program says “it’s weird doing virtual school, it’s not my ideal setting. It’s easier to get lost and confused on assignments and fall behind on work. I really miss going to class on campus and meeting people face-to-face.” Many people, myself included, struggle with learning on their own and having no in-person interaction with classmates to bounce ideas off of and challenge our ideas and thinking.

Communication between professor and student has also been tough because of the lack of face-to-face clarification, explanation and bonding that is so inspiring for both. Given the opportunity, almost all students I have talked to, have tried to get in person classes for next semester. However, some are comfortable with the new online format of things.

Undoubtedly, virtual classes have allowed flexibility to do class from anywhere--coffee shops, apartments, Landis Green, and even out of state. Given this new freedom, students have been able to have complete control over how they spend their time, which is both a blessing and a curse. Time management and motivation goes hand and hand with this freedom, and so the temptation to multitask by turning off your camera has become very normalized.

With all of the downsides and complications surrounding virtual learning, the situation has brought out some terrific opportunities and presented time for students to do more things they enjoy, like cooking, hiking, and photography, as well as a real-life experience in routinely using remote technology for big projects and assignments. This opportunity to learn how to use programs such as Zoom, ExEC, Loom and other business platforms has provided knowledge and insight into how we can better present information to our future employees or colleagues.

In closing, if we could sum up this virtual semester with one word, it would be Growth. Never before have people our age been forced to rapidly change the way that their whole life has previously operated, and although a very challenging semester is behind us, I have no doubts that every student has learned something very valuable that will help them now and in the future.

Master of Science in Retail Entrepreneurship TEXTILES & APPAREL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Learn innovative approaches to textile testing and analysis, manufacturing, distribution, and product design and development while exploring new technologies and gaining a better understanding of the advancements in the current textile and apparel industry. Develop and strengthen research and technical skills needed for new product development and management, working one on one with renowned faculty members in the textile and apparel field. Complete the MS in Retail Entrepreneurship with a major in Textiles and Apparel Entrepreneurship (MS-TAE) degree in one year, with an option to travel abroad to add valued international experience.

Master of Science in Entrepreneurship PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The product development entrepreneurship major, in the Master of Science in Entrepreneurship program (MSE), will prepare individuals who seek to work in any company, private or public, advancing their knowledge and skills in product design and development. The face-to-face classes offered in the product development major will provide students with hands-on experience in innovation and commercialization, further developing abilities to implement the MSE program's coursework into today’s highly competitive and lucrative field of entrepreneurship and product development. The optional international exposure will also give the MSE students the added value they need to be competitive on the global stage.

Master of Science in Entrepreneurship HOSPITALITY ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The online hospitality entrepreneurship major in the Master of Science in Entrepreneurship (MSE) program will focus on entrepreneurial endeavors in hospitality – opening, building, or innovating new hospitality enterprises. The program will rely heavily on the acquisition and application of skills in real-world scenarios. The degree will provide advanced online education to allow graduates to pursue careers in a variety of corporate, government and/or academic professions.

Master of Science in Entrepreneurship SOCIAL AND SUSTAINABLE ENTERPRISES

The Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship's interdisciplinary Master of Science in Entrepreneurship (MSE) with a major in Social and Sustainable Enterprises prepares students to create and manage sustainable companies that meet the needs of the present without compromising the future. A social and sustainable enterprise is determined by its Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) which refers to the three central factors in measuring the sustainability and societal impact of a business. These criteria help entrepreneurs create a business model (or executives transition to a business model) that incorporates people, planet, and profits in a way that mitigates risk and fulfills the demands of consumers for more equitable and sustainable companies.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

for JMC Students The Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship Internship Program is designed for students in Commercial, Retail and STEM who desire to gain work experience while partnering with executives from various startups and established businesses. Prior to the summer internships, students participate in an internship preparation course. The course was developed to provide students information about the internship process, challenges, and experiences. Traditionally, students complete an inperson eight (8) week internship or twelve (12) week internship with a minimum of thirty (30) hours a week or a maximum of forty (40) hours per week. While the pandemic mandated limitations on in person internships; internship coordinators and students were quick to respond and adapt. They worked with industry partners to shift the narrative and secure opportunities for remote internships.

While remote, industry partners were able to pivot to provide quality experiences for students to engage with executives and business professionals. Additionally, partners worked to provide opportunities to gain insight into their individual companies and industries. Students took on the challenge of company sponsored projects, research, and tasks. College internship assignments ensured the summer 2020 interns received opportunities to grow, lead and connect. Internship coordinators worked with industry partners to collect and review midterm and final progress evaluations working to ensure organizational feedback was captured. While summer 2020 looked different, we are proud of the resiliency of our students and the outstanding contributions they were able to make during their internships. We are also thankful for our industry partners and their impressive pivot to remote opportunities, ability to overcome challenges and commitment to providing quality experiences to the students of Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship.

JMC Faculty Help During Pandemic Dr. Meredith McQuerry, Assistant Professor of Retail Entrepreneurship, has been studying the performance of novel woven and nonwoven face coverings for general citizen and medical end uses that incorporate antibacterial and antifungal fabrics for COVID-19 and other illness prevention. Acteev Protect™ yarns and fabrics, developed by Ascend Performance Materials, incorporate the first-of-its-kind silver-free antimicrobial technology that lasts the life of the product as opposed to most topical finishes such as coatings. The material is also odor resistant and washable, meeting the CDC’s requirements for cloth face coverings.

As with all personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance is essential for it to be effective and with one of the top complaints of face coverings being poor wearer comfort, there exists a need to better understand and develop materials for face masks that both protect and enhance comfort. McQuerry’s research team began work this summer to assess the thermal comfort of commercially available woven and nonwoven face masks alongside masks made with Acteev Protect™. A human subjects wear study was conducted with local Tallahassee Fire Department participants who performed a treadmill exercise protocol simulating medical tasks and common general consumer use activities. Each participant rated their overall facial comfort, temperature sensation, and breathability when wearing all masks in the study.

Halfway into the project, results thus far demonstrate the Acteev Protect™ masks provide as much, if not more comfort, than typical face masks found on the market today. Perceived facial comfort was maintained longer and at a more favorable rating for the duration of the 50 minute protocol compared to the traditional nonwoven fabric mask. Overall, the Acteev Protect™ mask enhances protection against COVID-19 and other illnesses while providing greater levels of comfort and breathability for longer periods of time.

2020 JMC 7 UNDER 30 The annual 7 Under 30 Speaker Series features seven successful FSU alumni entrepreneurs who started businesses before the age of 30. The annual event takes place during Tallahassee Startup Week. Speakers talk about their experiences in starting and growing a business, and participate in a Q&A session.

The ninth 7 Under 30 Speaker Series was hosted on Wednesday, November 18th. Each year the event features seven successful FSU alumni who started their businesses before the age of 30. Speakers talk about their experiences in starting and growing a business, and participate in a Q&A session. This year was particularly interesting since the event was streamed live with a very limited in-person audience. The event lasted two hours and had over 157 views! The graduates come from four different colleges at FSU (Social Sciences, Business, Psychology, and Human Sciences), which shows the commitment and dedication FSU has to growing the entrepreneurial ecosystem across the campus.

RETAIL EXPERIENCES AND INNOVATION STUDIO

By Roxanne Parker The Retail Merchandising Lab was originally established in 1994 as a state-of-the-art, hands on learning experience for students entering the retail industry. With the radical advancement of technology and the increased focus on consumer data, the retail industry has seen a major shift to a growth in digital commerce. The retail industry will be resetting its consumer shopping model to reflect this, placing greater emphasis on creating engaging and exciting shopping experiences for consumers especially online and through emerging technologies. Reinventing our lab to include emerging technology and a more digital experience will provide our students with an unmatched level of preparation for entering the retail industry. In addition to the technology enhancements that have been added, we have also reinvented the traditional retail space to include all new updated fixturing. We will continue to provide the students with brick and mortar retail visual merchandising skills, while layering in the omni-channel visual merchandising experience.

RETAIL CENTER NETWORKING SESSIONS Written by the Retail Center interns, Andree Randall and Grayce Halter

This year, due to the circumstances with COVID-19, the Retail Center has put together Virtual Networking sessions with our top retail partners here at FSU. The networking sessions were designed to connect students who are actively pursuing internships and job opportunities with recruiters from each company. So far we have hosted sessions with Bealls, Burlington, E&J Gallo Winery, Kohl’s, Target, and UNIQLO! This experience has been so positive and extremely helpful to not only the students but the recruiters as well. Each Zoom session consisted of the recruiters providing information about their company, experience in the work field, and open question dialogue to interact with one another. This was an amazing opportunity for students to take advantage of while searching for internships and jobs, and allowed them to start building relationships with the companies.

27TH ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP DINNER

The Scholarship Dinner is a networking event attended by students, faculty, and retailers traditionally held each fall. The dinner is an occasion many students look forward to each year as they are able to connect with professionals from the retail industry. During the dinner, over 40 commendable students are surprised and awarded with scholarship money. Although we were not able to host our 26th Annual Scholarship Dinner this past September, we are looking forward to a night of scholarships, networking, and retail for Fall of 2021.

NRF STUDENT CHALLENGE

By Caroline Moon Annually, the National Retail Federation (NRF) holds the Student Challenge, a competition that challenges students to develop a series of products, a financial analysis, and a marketing plan. Our challenge was to act as a product development team and create a seasonal line for our team’s chosen retailer, Nordstrom. My participation in the NRF Student Challenge was an experience I will never forget. We will continue to draw on all the lessons we learned along the way as we move forward into our careers, from working in product development to crafting marketing and distribution strategies.

Creating a product line and business plan from scratch taught us more than we could have imagined, as we were able to apply what we have learned in our retail classes and experiences to a realworld retailing scenario. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, this experience pushed us to work collaboratively in alternative ways and enhanced our appreciation for teamwork. While the experience was challenging, it has been so exciting to develop our sustainably chic techwear line, “Marin Noir."
