O R G Through the assistance of the Foundation, the Grand Forks Park District is committed to the development, enhancement, and sustainability of parks, playgrounds, facilities, programs, and activities for our community. Established in 2007, the Foundation provides financial assistance to low-income families within recreation programs and allows the Grand Forks Park District to build and sustain life-enriching facilities. Through community donor support, we are sincerely optimistic that needs will be met, allowing parks and recreation in Grand Forks to continue through the decades.

Dear Foundation Donors and Supporters, The Grand Forks Parks and Recreation Foundation had so much to be thankful for in 2025, due to our generous donors and visionary supporters! The year marked the celebration of new places to play as well as renovations of old favorites as the foundation worked to add parks and facilities to the district while maintaining and restoring existing landmarks. The Park District’s newest addition, Crary Park, was officially opened to the public in the fall of 2025. The 10+ acre community park is located in the Grand Valley Development and was made possible through a naming rights agreement with Crary Development, Inc. along with North Dakota Parks & Recreation and Garrison Diversion grant awards. The new park features a state-of-the art playground, areas of accessible equipment, lit sidewalks and bike paths, and a parking lot. An official grand opening event was held on October 9th, co-hosted by the Park District and Crary Real Estate. The well-attended community celebration featured an evening of fall festivities including music, food, games, and fun. As Grand Forks continues to develop, it is our mission to grow recreation spaces alongside our expanding community! Revitalizing existing facilities also remained a priority throughout the district in 2025. The Terry Paukert Tennis Complex at Riverside Park was officially dedicated on October 8th, marking the completion of a successful campaign to renovate and restore the facility in honor of tennis legend, Terry Paukert. Through the dedication of a group of local citizens and the generosity of individual and organizational donors, the renovation project restored playing surfaces on all four courts, added bleachers and picnic shelters for spectator seating, installed a new stamped concrete path, updated landscaping, and added new facility and donor signage. The Blue Line Club IcePlex Renovation Project also made strides throughout 2025 with new boards and glass installed in the South Rink in the summer and new exterior paint and facility signage completed in the fall. Park District staff also worked to plan for the next phase of remodeling as design concepts and estimated costs were sought for future renovations to the second-floor concessions and restrooms, North Rink side entrance, and high school locker rooms. These much-needed renovations will greatly benefit the Greater Grand Forks community and will demonstrate our ongoing investment in youth hockey and figure skating. As we look ahead to 2026, we remain committed to enhancing, caring for, and revitalizing our parks and facilities, driven by the incredible dedication of our volunteers, the generosity of our donors, and the hard work of our foundation staff in pursuing impactful funding. As always, we sincerely thank you for your continued support in promoting healthy lifestyles through amazing facilities and programs that enhance the quality of life for those who call Grand Forks home. A New Place to Play

CRARY PARK

Through land dedication, state grants, a generous naming rights agreement, and funds set aside in the general fund, the Grand Forks Park District was able to add a new community park and playground in record time! Officially opened in the fall of 2025, Crary Park boasts a large playground for all ages with areas of pour-and-play flooring and accessible equipment, lit sidewalks and bike paths circling the park, a large parking lot, and green space. With the potential for future amenities, the newest addition to the district has been well-received by the surrounding neighborhood and the community at large.

Grand Opening

celebration On October 9, 2025, a Grand Opening celebration was held at Crary Park, cohosted by the Grand Forks Park District and Crary Real Estate. The special event was open to the entire community and featured an evening of fall festivities including carnival style games, music, food, inflatables, face painting, pumpkin decorating, giveaways, and more. The newly opened park was full of community members, young and old, and the evening was packed with family fun! The event culminated in a short ribbon-cutting ceremony held on the new playground, led by members of the Crary family and the many children in attendance. We are so thankful to all who attended the celebration and to the Crary family and Crary Real Estate team for all of the time and contributions they put in to make the event such a wonderful success. We look forward to many more community events at Crary Park in the years to come!

Tennis complex renovation Renovating Historic Courts

AT RIVERSIDE PARK

Through community philanthropy, a group of local citizens and the GF Parks & Rec Foundation started a campaign in 2023 to raise funds to renovate the newly renamed Paukert Tennis Complex at Riverside Park. The renovation project aimed to improve the playing surface and viewing area at the tennis complex, while honoring Grand Forks tennis legend, Terry Paukert.

Dedication Ceremony

Honoring a Local Legend On October 8th, 2025, a Dedication Ceremony was held at Riverside Park to officially celebrate the renovation and renaming of the Paukert Tennis Complex in honor of local tennis legend, Terry Paukert. The special event marked the completion of a successful fundraising campaign that raised the funds needed to revitalize the historic courts for players and spectators alike. In true Terry fashion, the ceremony was held in conjunction with a Central High School Boys Tennis practice, so that Terry could prioritize his work with young athletes even on a day marked to honor him. The celebration included refreshments, tunes curated by DJ Terry, and a short program featuring speeches from Park District commissioners, fundraising committee members, and the guests of honor, Terry and Judy Paukert. The ceremony was a huge success and the tennis complex was packed with those gathered to honor and celebrate the man who has inspired so many with his dedication to youth tennis in the community. We are so thankful to all who attended the event and to those who contributed along the way to make this renovation project a reality. We look forward to this historic facility’s exciting new chapter in our community and thank it’s namesake for all he has done to grow the game of tennis in Grand Forks.

BLC ICEPLEX Renovation

Campaign to Remodel

Blue line club iceplex Through the support of organization donors, grant funding, local volunteers, and prior allocated facility improvement funds within the existing GF Park District budget, we are in the process of renovating Blue Line Club IcePlex (formerly Eagles and Blue Line Club Arenas). This much-needed renovation will greatly benefit and financially impact Greater Grand Forks as well as demonstrate our investment in high school hockey, youth hockey, figure skating, and other supporting high school sports.

Past Campaigns with a big impact

Veterans memorial park Through community philanthropy and the tireless work of local veterans and the VMP Committee, the Veterans Memorial Park was built as an outdoor gathering place for veterans, military members, families, and community members to celebrate, recognize, remember, and honor the lives of those who are serving or have served in the United States Military. The Memorial Park was officially dedicated on September 11, 2021, and lighting, landscaping, and infrastructure improvements have been made in the years since.

Campaigns with a big impact

choice Health & Fitness

Made possible through a 4-year, $30 million “Imagine” fundraising campaign that raised funds through donations, naming rights, partnerships, lease agreements, and financing, Choice Health & Fitness officially opened in September of 2012. The unique project impacted the way our community addresses health and fitness and has become a pillar of activity, wellness, and connection in the Grand Forks community. The amazing 162,000 square foot fitness facility boasts 2 basketball/volleyball courts; 3 racquetball courts; 6 indoor tennis courts; 6 outdoor tennis courts; an indoor walk/run track; an aquatics complex equipped with water slides, water park, lap pool and lazy river; 15,000 square foot of state-of-the-art fitness equipment; and 4 group exercise suites for rowing, cycling, large classes and yoga. It is also home to the Altru Health System Sanny & Jerry Ryan Center for Prevention.

Kraft Memorial Field

With the support of local businesses, user groups, and community advocates, the GF Parks & Rec Foundation raised the funds needed to renovate and renew Kraft Memorial Field. Project renovations included the replacement of infield turf at both Montgomery and Kraft Fields as well as the construction of a new grandstand, locker room, concessions area, and restrooms. An official grand re-opening event was held in June of 2024, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for this community landmark. Future lighting improvements are planned for the summer of 2026.

northern valley Law Enforcement Memorial

Located at Optimist Park, the Northern Valley Law Enforcement Memorial is a place where the legacy of fallen law enforcement can be recognized and honored. Through philanthropy, and the help of organizational and individual donors, the NVLEM Committee raised the funds needed to build the memorial in honor of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. Completed in the spring of 2023, the memorial represents Federal, Canadian, Minnesotan, and North Dakotan law enforcement members who died in the line of duty in the Northern Valley. The memorial features a granite monument wall with names of fallen officers, a raised memorial statue of a fallen officer, flag poles, memorial benches, and donor signage. Names of fallen law enforcement are added to the monument at the annual Police Memorial Service, held at the memorial each May.

skidmore Park

Through grant funding and the help of the University Park Neighborhood Association, Near North Neighborhoods, and the Blue Zones Project, a group of Grand Forks citizens and the GF Parks & Rec Foundation raised funds to renovate historic Skidmore Park. Project renovations included the installation of a large green space, patio, ADA accessible picnic tables, in-ground vegetable gardens, educational perennial beds, and a small fruit tree orchard.

ICON Sports Center

Made possible by the donations received from the former Legends & Heroes Campaign, ICON Sports Center has been an extremely impactful addition to our community. Averaging over 3,800 hours in ice time and over 115,000 spectators annually, this year-round ice facility hosts hockey games and tournaments, figure skating, private rentals, camps, tryouts, adult leagues, and has become a hub for the Grand Forks community.

Scheels Sports Complex

While the Building Fields of Dreams campaign has ended, the impact left from this amazing facility continues to positively influence our youth baseball players, softball players, and soccer players. Thanks to all the donors that made this youth sports complex possible.

rydell Skatepark

The Skatepark Project has come to an end after successfully raising funds to update and relocate our local Skatepark to Kannowski Park. Thanks to the efforts of the Skatepark Committee, Phases 1 & 2 of Rydell Skatepark are open to the public and boast some of the best skate features in the surrounding area. This one-of-a-kind skatepark provides skaters of all ages and their families a safe place to gather and skate.

Created in 1981 in memory of longtime UND baseball coach Harold “Pinky” Kraft, this endowment provides support to the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks American Legion Baseball Programs.

Ulland Fund & Grants

Created by Mr. Pete Ulland to support youth recreation programs. The Ulland Fund provides grants annually to local recreational and arts non-profit organizations.

Nord Fund

Created by the Ruth Nord Family to fund youth golf and tennis programming.

Joe K. Neel Jr. Fund & Grants

In memory of Joe K. Neel, Jr., this fund supports the enhancement of Grand Forks Park District parks and facilities throughout the community. Matching grants may also be available to local organizations wanting to improve Park District facilities.

Ulland grant In 2023, The Foundation Board updated and expanded the Ulland Grant funding requirements, submission process, and application to better serve our community. The changes were well received. Below are the updated requirements and deadlines for submission.

Grant Overview

The Grand Forks Parks & Recreation Foundation Ulland Fund grants up to $20,000 annually to local recreation, sports, leisure activities, arts, and nature-focused programs/projects. Each organization is permitted to request up to $1,000 annually.
