Editorial Comments... Jill Bayers Hotchkiss Where do I start? It would be an understate­ ment to say, lots of things have happened in the Hereford busi­ ness since our Jill Hotchkiss last issue. In October the American Here­ ford Association held their annual meeting and convention. Marc and I went to this event and met up with many old friends and made some new ones. It’s always interesting to finally meet people I’ve been dealing with on the phone for several years but have never met, especially a few that I’ve worked with over the phone buying bulls. It’s great to reconnect with old friends and acquaintances we’ve known for years but don’t see very often. Overall the event went well, opin­ ions were heard, lots of information presented. One particularly import­ nat panel discussion on gene editing is still being talked about but sorry, I’m not getting into the details here. The highlights of the event for me were the Hall of Fame and Hall of Merit inductee ceremonies. These are such special awards and an in­ credible process for the recipients and their families. To be recognized by their peers for these lifetime awards is a great reward for diligence and dedication to their life’s passion of Herefords. I offer a heartfelt con­ gratulations to all of the recipients. I am honored to know them and feel they are truly exceptional people. You can read about all of them in this issue. MO – Phil and Joyce Ellis; Chrisman, IL; Marty Lueck, Mountain Grove, MO; and Vern and Jerry Rausch, Hoven, SD, were inducted into the Hereford Hall of Fame Oct. 21, 2023, in Kansas City, MO, during the American Hereford Association (AHA) Annual Meeting and Conference. The Hall of Fame honor recognizes leaders and breeders who have influenced the trajectory and advancement of the Hereford breed. (continued on page 12)
