My Bull Buyer Wears Lipstick and Other Random February Thoughts I’ ve been think ing about this title for a long time. E ach year as I am Jill Hotchkiss entrusted by people to bid on bulls for them, I also run into a few who don’ t want to “ deal with a girl.” That’ s ok ay. I’ m used to it by now and the ones who are comfortable work ing with me far outweigh those who don’ t. For the most part it is very enj oyable and I’ ve gotten to k now some great people with whom I’ ve had interesting conversations about cattle and other subj ects over the years. Most people lik e my candidness when assessing cattle but I suppose there are some who want to only hear how perfect the bull is. We always hope they are perfect and I’ d love to say each one is perfect but it j ust doesn’ t happen that way. A friend with more wisdom than I have once told me, “ j ust remember, there is no such thing as a perfect bull,” and it bears k eeping that in mind. I’ d rather mention the few imperfections so there aren’ t any surprises when a person receives his/ her bull or heifer. S o to those people who work with me and value my opinion, I say thank you. I am honored and it is a pleasure work ing with you. This past month has seemed lik e a year due primarily to over two plus week s of sub-z ero temperatures which have blank eted a large portion of the country during which we’ ve had a very full bull sale schedule.
