Student Living Space Design Competition

Vote for your favorite “Concept to Reality” design room at the 15th Annual Student Interior Design Competition by up and coming local students competing for $3,000 in scholarship money to help further their design dreams. Each designer is tasked with creating a room sketch and then bringing their design rendering to life in a 200 square foot setting.

In a room dedicated to fantasy, dreams are no longer reserved for sleeping. Rich jewel tones, such as deep teal, luxurious berry hues, and thoughtful specks of metallic will transport the modern sleeping beauty to a room fit for royalty. Vintage glamour and whimsical elements, including antique mirrors, topiaries, fresh flowers, and woodland elements, will intermingle and harbor the perfect environment for imagination and creativity. Twin beds anchor the room, and add extra sleeping quarters for a fellow “princess.”

A modern take on a traditional Japanese interior - this perspective shows a Zen inspired living space. Bamboo partitions in addition to raised bamboo flooring create the idea of separate spaces, while still maintaining a connection between the two. Materiality, both in texture and color, are reflective of raw elements seen in nature. Grey area rugs act as meditation stones, which can be seen outlining the bottom of the bamboo partitions. Japanese screens are applied to the floor-to-ceiling ‘windows’, hinting that there is a seamless connection between interior and exterior.

Scottsdale Community College • Katie Brunskill & Arik Spaulding This is an elegant bedroom design utilizing neutrals with hints of blue and green.

Traditional elements combined with contemporary pieces set the mood for a high-end yet relaxed retreat from every day life. A reading corner was incorporated providing additional storage and dimension to the space. Accents throughout are simple and whimsical in nature creating a harmonious atmosphere.

Scottsdale Community College • Mandy Nielsen Step into my open multifunctional living space intended to be enjoyed by anyone. I will be combining modern and vintage styles with both masculine and feminine touches to create balance.

Light and cool color palettes will make this room feel larger. Textural combinations will add interest along with fun and unusual accessories, and repurposed furniture and materials will add warmth to the room.
