Arai’s primary goal is not to be the world’s biggest helmet company, but the world’s best.

Over 50 years devoted solely to the art and science of designing and building the best helmets humanly possible. To reach that goal, advanced specialised technology is the key factor.

Every Arai helmet is virtually 100% handmade in Japan. Each craftsman signs the helmet shell along the way. And every helmet is hand inspected at least three times during construction. Not every hundredth helmet, or every tenth one every single helmet.

The outer shell is the backbone of the helmet. Arai shells are made of several types and layers of resins blended together with Super Fibre in different combinations. The latest development is

the astoundingly strong ‘PB-SNC’ shell of the new RX-7 GP.

B The Ultimate Shell A peripheral belt (PB) laid on the top of the eye-opening of the structural net composite (SNC) shell increases the rigidity. This belt construction was devised during F-1 helmet development to reinforce the forehead area of the shell.

The main material of the outer shell is Arai’s exclusive Super Fibre, now with increased fibre density. It is no less than 35% stronger in both anti-stretch and anti-compression ability compared to standard fibre.

D The Difference Arai’s approach towards helmet construction is to use an extremely rigid and strong outer shell, with a soft and comfortable inner shell. A cheaper way to produce helmets is the other way round: a soft-thermo-injection plastic outer shell and a hard inner liner. But the rigid and hard Arai outer shell will spread the force of an impact over the total surface of the helmet; while the remaining energy is easily absorbed by the soft inner shell.

ARAI WINS CONSUMER AWARDS IN USA AND EUROPE US based J.D. Power and Associates is a global marketing information firm that conducts independent and unbiased surveys of customer satisfaction and product quality. J.D. Power began studying motorcycle helmet satisfaction in 1999, asking riders on an annual basis to rate their helmets. That year, and every year since, Arai has come out firmly as the overall winner of the Motorcycle Helmet Satisfaction Study.

The 2009 survey was no different; 4,600 riders were consulted and the helmet that came out number one was Arai. Why? For constant technological development and, very simply, delivering a consistent edge in all areas. Tim Fox, research manager of Powersports Practice at J.D. Power and Associates;

For testing, research and development purposes, all certified testing equipment is present at the AIC so all approval and homologation test procedures, including (ECE, Snell and FIA) may be executed to the official regulations and under controlled climatic conditions.

You can’t always see the reasons why, but they’re there: lower weight from proprietary aerospace fibreglass, superb scratch-resistant visor, lower centre of gravity for better balance and less strain.

The AIC is a completely new concept and a first in the helmet industry. Just as Arai was the first back in 1983 to offer the race service, first with the five year guarantee and first with the touring service, Arai is now the first to introduce this new and fresh way to inspire all that are connected with Arai.

Within the AIC, the Arai R&D department are also able to create new concepts and react much faster to changes in trends and demands of the market. An important factor is that testing can be done under European circumstances; from the freezing arctic regions through the unlimited speeds on the German Autobahn to the near tropical climate in the south of the continent.

Another important role of the AIC lies in the training and technical education of Arai dealers. It is now for instance no problem to show how safe an Arai helmet in reality is by testing it to and over the limit. We cannot only compare any helmet with other products, but also reproduce test results from any institute in the world. Literally hundreds of dealers are trained every year in the AIC. HELMET SIZING Correct sizing and fit is crucial to how a helmet feels and, more crucially, performs. Shown right is the right way to measure the circumference of your head, in order to determine the best size of your new Arai helmet. Check the circumference across the forehead, above the ear and at the back of the head as illustrated. Allow some tolerance in case of very long or thick hair and be sure to try on both smaller and larger helmets to confirm size; the helmet should be a secure and snug fit and allow for a small amount of ‘bedding in’ from new. The Difference An Arai helmet is produced without the slightest compromise in quality. From the beginning we have been solely devoted to the art and science of designing and building one of the best helmets humanly possible. That is why every Arai is almost 100% handmade in Japan and every single helmet is individually inspected, not once, but at every step in the manufacturing process.

Arai is even able to trace back each and every helmet ever made to the craftsman who built it, because each helmet carries their individual signature of approval.

Aside from the annoyance, visor fogging can have serious safety implications for riders from obscuring vision to distracting attention from the road.

Max Vision® works in two ways to provide an unrivalled level of clear vision:

1 The main cause of visor fogging is from the heat differences between the inside and outside of the helmet. Fitting the Max Vision! lens into its visor creates an air tight, double paned chamber which levels temperature. The lenses are also created by a special moisture absorbing material, which Max Vision! utilises the deep visor recess to employ the thickest useable amount.
