The Facets is a student housing development situated in Berkeley’s downtown area for UC Berkeley undergraduate students. The building’s first level boasts a blend of commercial and residential spaces, including art studios and community conference rooms open to both students and the local community. The project scope includes schematic block planning for the ground floor, as well as designing the entrance lobby for students.

The design concept for this project centers around creating an energetic and vibrant village that encourages student connections with each other, the community, and the natural outdoor environment.

The Wave

San Francisco, California

Design Description

A Parkside ground floor renovation for an active elderly couple who loves surfing and cycling in the tuscany wine region of Italy. A flexible studio space is provided for the wife to teach private cello lessons and for the husband for his painting hobby. The space planning gives special consideration to the circulation for student access to the studio without intruding into the private space. Custom built-in with personalized design elements maximizes the space usage. Aging-in-place is also a factor that influences various design features.
