Ed Ruscha's Hollywood Boulevard, 1973 and 2002 (Modern Architecture in Los Angeles)

The series contains material relating to Ruscha's documentation of Hollywood Boulevard between 1973 and 2002 In these works, Ruscha's original 1973 image runs parallel to the 2002 version, documenting the changes that have occurred on the boulevard over the course of three decades. As with each of the buildings on Sunset Boulevard, the image on the north side of the boulevard runs along the top of the paper or page, while the image on the south side of the boulevard is inverted along its bottom edge. The work provides me with a way of documenting, through two identical angles, black and white and colour records as a contrast, giving a strong visual impact and provoking thoughts on the changing development of the city.
