• • • • • • • • • •
Is an ancient woody grass widely distributed in tropical, subtropical and mild temperate zones. Seen as the “poor man’s tree”. Industrial raw material and substitute for wood. It becomes important economic asset in poverty eradication, economic and environmental development. Bamboo is a group of perennial evergreens in the true grass family poaceae. It includes the largest members of the grass family. There are more than 70 genera of bamboo divided into about 1,450 species, 50 species are routinely cultivated. Extremely fast-growing plant. WHAT IS BAMBOO CRAFT ?
• Bamboo crafts are traditional craft items made from bamboo. A range of items can be handcrafted from bamboo, often needing few or basic tools. There are a lot of things that can be crafted from bamboo such as furniture, toys, clock, boxes, baskets etc. • In Malaysia, the name bamboo comes from the Malay word, “mambu”, then, in the 16th century, the Dutch named it “bamboes” and later took it’s neolatin name “bambusa”.
WHY BAMBOO ?
• Sustainability -fastest growing plant
• Short rotation -harvestable from 3yr. Onwards • Adaptability -different agro climatic conditions • Economical -easily available at cheaper cost • Environmentally friendly -carbon sequestration, reclamation, water harvesting, reduces soil degradation
land
• Plantation -large scale plantations can be brought up easily
• Social acceptance -liked by the society from the old costumed baskets to furnished bamboo flooring
BAMBOO WEAVING
• Bamboo has been called as ‘wonder grass’ due to its multifarious uses. • No other plant material can provide a strong competition to bamboo due to its excellent properties and attributes which make it suitable for numerous end products and purposes. • Although bamboo is very strong and hard in its natural form, however when converted into a thin sliver, it can be very flexible owing to its strong fiber property. • This special property has been exploited by the users form all over the world for many centuries. • It requires special skills for bamboo-weaving that has opened multitude of employment generation activities. • Although all the bamboo species can be used for weaving basket and mats, however some of them are very hard and some make very brittle slivers. • Thin wall, longer nodes, smaller diameter bamboos can make better quality slivers for weaving. • Mostly freshly harvested thin walled, long internode type bamboos are good for weaving.

MAJOR CHALLENGE OF TRADITIONAL BAMBOO CRAFT • Product Quality Related Challenges Bamboo craft are playing greater role in the study area to the fulfillment of the material needs of the rural community and town residents with low income. However, according to informants, there is problem of quality of the products. Traditional bamboo products produced by bamboo which is not well-dried have the possibility of dispersion without serving the expected period. Such products are easily affected by moth locally known as “kinkin” after serving 2 or 3 years. The products are also very traditional which remained common in the study area for longer period. There is also problem of producing portable bamboo products that can be carried easily from one area to another easily by tourist. • Support Service-Related Challenges The main support providing governmental institutions for bamboo handicraft sector in the study area at zonal level are, among others, Technical and Vocational Colleges, Culture and Tourism Department and Offices and Technic and Vocational Enterprises Development Department and Offices and Municipality Centers or Town Service Offices. These governmental bodies have the responsibility to coordinate and provide training on improved bamboo processing techniques and to access the trainees with technology, capital, work and selling place and market. Some of the bamboo traditional handicraft processors engaged at individual and family level in a town are provided with short-term training on modern bamboo handicraft processing. However, most of the processors engaged in bamboo handicraft activity at different study zone perform their activity by using traditional wisdom without having training at all. • Bamboo Resource Related Challenges The study area is known in its bamboo resource. The presence of bamboo in the locality can be taken as a good opportunity to develop the bamboo handicraft sector. However, bamboo processors are encountering shortage of bamboo to produce bamboo handicrafts in large quantity and in all seasons. Bamboo processors reported about the scarcity of bamboo resource during summer season (from June to September), since it is a period of reproduction for bamboo, farmers don't cut and sell bamboo. They also reported about the deterioration of the bamboo resource because of the effort of the local farmers to expand farmland and low income obtained from bamboo plantation.
CHALLENGE AND ISSUE OF BAMBOO CRAFT MUSEUM
First is assets issue • Due to this gallery is a private agency, and the assets to run the exhibition hall is enormous sum so reserves are a major issue to settle. For the arrangement that I believe is we can hold some cause occasion for raising money. Through the occasion, our museum can give some show or presentation to draw in individuals. Second broad issue is the assurance of the art • It is an issue that the art needs to open to public and keep away from for obliterated. For the arrangement is we can set up the exacting standard for guest and give a watchman at the zone which has valuable specialty. The third broad issue for a museum is absence of guest since absence of promote
• For the answer for tackle this issue is exhibition hall can cooperate some notable magazine or paper to advance ourselves and let more individuals know this gallery.
AIM OF BAMBOO CRAFT MUSEUM
• First, environmental protection. Estimation of 'ecological assurance' is incidentally referenced however connection between natural security and green plan idea are uncommon. ROLE OF BUILDING
• ARCHITECTURAL SCHEME CONTAINS AREAS FOR EXPERIMENTAL EXHIBITION AND COMBINATION SPACES FOR OFFICE USE
• LANDMARK FOR ZHUOLU COUNTY
DESIGN CONCEPT AT A TIME OF THE STONE AGE, THE STONEWARE WAS THE ONLY MATERIAL CARRIER FOR THE HUMAN BEINGS. THE ANCIENT CULTURAL MARKS COULD BE EXPLORED AND TRACED FROM THE UNEARTHED CULTURAL RELICS. BY IMITATING THE RAW PHYSICAL FORM OF NATURAL STONE, THE NEW MUSEUM IS ENDEAVORED TO CREATE A POWERFUL SPIRIT OF THE PLACE, AND TO FORMULATE THE SHAPE, POWER, AND SOUL OF THE CHINESE DRAGON – THE CHINESE ICON. THE APPEARANCE OF THE ARCHITECTURAL BUILT-FORM IS GRAND AND MAGNIFICENT, WHICH IMPLIES THE CULTURE OF ZHULU IN REFLECTION TO THE CHINESE CULTURAL CONTEXT. BY USING THE NATURAL ROUGH STONES ON THE SURFACE OF THE BUILDING, THE NEW MUSEUM IS ECHOING THE ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ANCIENT CIVILIZATION, HIGHLIGHTING THE THREE ANCESTRAL CULTURAL CHARACTERISTICS AND CHARM. JUST AS THE UNEARTHED STONE ARTIFACT, THIS NEW CONSTRUCTION WILL LEAD YOU INTO THE EXPLORATION OF THE ANCIENT CIVILIZATION.
