Project 1b A ‘Warm Up’ Design Thinking Proposal (Individual)

Meru Connect Town of Meru, Klang

Site Analysis Diagram below shows the main access to site and some route of user surrounding within 15minute, and the zoning. There are Malay community, SJKC Tiong Hua, kindergarten, shop lot, Chinese community and factory worker community in these area.

Chosen Site (Site 2) Site 2 is a green area, it is strategic location because it has commercial area, different community, and schools around and it got a distance from main road which can prevent noise from main road, but it is easy to access from main road

Issues

Lacking of Public space

Lacking of interaction Between each community

Lacking of Pedestrian walkway

Meru Connect Collage

It is a space that design with tree as natural sun shading. For the elderly, usually they will go to grocery to buy some daily use, so when they go through, they can chitchat with their friend and also playing chess when leisure time. For teenager, in front of site got a food stall so it is a good place for teenager to bring their food and eat with their friend, they also can buy their food from shop lot beside the site and bring it to here. For parent, when they fetch their children from SJKC Tiong Hua to back home, their children also can play at here with their friend using the facility. And last is local worker and foreign worker also can go here for leisure and it is a place for them to gather and make some new friend to enhance relationship especially between local and foreigner

Lack of interaction Between community

After viewing the journal, I produce this drawing base on a cycling city which is like a harmony residential area with cycling as a connection between each nationality. In this drawing I propose all difference style of house design but same colour style. This is to represent the difference of community in Meru also can live together as a harmony town. Most of the community in here is use bicycle as their main transportation and create a cycling culture. In this city, I propose all the cycling facilities like bicycle lane, bicycle parking, resting station and some solar charging station which for high tech bicycle that required charging. Besides that, I also propose some public facility for their cycling activities. Such as at the right top part, that is an area like imitation of mountain area. This area is for those who like hiking bike to go and to practice at there. Second is at the left part, that is like a bicycle stadium that for racer cyclist to practice and prepare for their tournament. And next is like a park area in front of a restaurant. This area is a gathering point for cyclist to communicate with each other, and also a resting point for them to have their food and drink. And the last is right bottom part facility, this is an area for those who interest in acrobatics to practice and perform at here. That all is my imagination city which combine with cycling along their live.

Residential perspective

Model I take the intention from the bicycle, which is the gear of bicycle to create this model. In this model, what I want to express is the difference type or pattern of gear is representing difference community in Meru, and the difference size of it is representing difference age of the residence. As you can see at here, whatever type or size are they, if they willing to connect together, working with each other, they can run the whole city and keep it moving. So, what I do now is to create a connection between the residence of Meru which I try to use cycling as a medium for their interaction

The bicycle service centre is open to the outside and it is all the glass panel that can fully open. And then there are some washroom, staircase, and fire stairs case, lift and there are bicycle lift for cyclist to bring their bicycle from roof top to ground floor.

4. Next will be the loading bay and the storage area. At here the bicycle ramp is around 5meter high which allow lorry to access. And at the middle courtyard has some food stall to sell some snack because it has a lot of food stall around my site.

2. Next will be the bicycle workshop. Bicycle workshop also is open to the outside. And here is the drop off area. Then going into community building is lobby and a lot of shop lot, and surau. This building also got staircase and fire staircase and the lift.

3. The back of this building is the bicycle ramp to going to roof top cycling park.

Community Centre (Cycling Centre)

Design Objective To create a community centre main for cycling centre as a solution for less interaction between community around especially local and foreigner. This community centre also as a medium to enhance cycling culture in Meru to solve the traffic congestion issue. Design concept To design a cycling lane with the building for difference cycling experience as cycling lane connect to each space of building and going up to roof top cycling park.
