2023 RECAP

In 2023, more than 80% of Texas experienced a lingering drought with extremely high temperatures, drying up water supplies throughout the state, and in some places causing wildfires. Beyond just being hot physically, many people developed a dryness in their personal lives, family, and business. While fires of war broke out in parts of the world, many had to deal with fires and storms in their situations. Amidst what could be a drought in the natural, we saw a thirst for something greater rise up in many, in our companies, communities, and those we serve around the world through our partners. In the famous story of Jesus meeting the woman at the well, he meets her in her spiritual dryness and fire storm of her life, not with shame or condemnation, but with Hope and an invitation… “but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” -John 4:14.

In the same way, we saw Jesus meet many in our company, community, and in youth and families around the world with Hope and an invitation to come to Him and draw from His well that does not run dry; to drink from His waters that truly quench and satisfy. Every ministry initiative and donation sown was done so to lead people to the Wellspring of Life and to help them experience His rivers of living water that He offers to those who come to Him and put their trust in Him. He offers not just a drink that gives temporary relief, but He empowers us with His living water that awakens us to be filled and even overflow to others who need a drink. His rivers of living water are still flowing and we invite you to see some glimpses of some of those streams that flowed in and through our family of companies and ministries that we partner with here and around the world.

JH Reach is not just a department within the Household Group, but a department extending beyond our team to provide resources and opportunities to serve our employees and families. We hope to strengthen and equip every employee.

Obed Felix, a valued member of our team at John Houston Homes, not only excels as one of our skilled construction managers but also serves as the head pastor of God’s Kingdom Church and Ministries in Waco, TX. Obed’s unwavering positivity, compassion, and guidance make him an exceptional employee and coworker, cherished by our trades, vendors, and customers alike. Obed has been involved in numerous JH Reach initiatives, including leading Home Teams and incorporating the discipleship curriculum within his church community.

In January, Obed joined JH Reach on a mission trip to El Salvador, where his dedication and teamwork were inspiring. Obed and his wife Amber truly live out our purpose of helping people find their way Home here in Texas and anywhere they go. They have collaborated with local officials and churches in Nogales, Mexico to establish an orphanage and housing, providing muchneeded support and pointing children and families in need towards the hope found in Christ. We want to celebrate Obed Felix for the many ways he Reaches People for Christ and Gives to the Kingdom.

Ochoa Middle School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, reached out to Church 3434, where the Tulsa Hope Field is located, for support during a difficult time of bomb threats. Thanks to the church’s assistance and connection, Ochoa Middle School not only had the opportunity to participate in impactful community initiatives but also received the message of the gospel. In return, the MTAG has provided a haven for hundreds of young people and their families, giving them a place to belong and believe in a lasting Hope. 30 STUDENTS from Ochoa Middle School actively take part in the weekly scrimmages and practices at the Hope Field, further strengthening their connection with the transformative community.

Harvest House in Waxahachie, Manna House in Midlothian, Harvest Family Life in Grand Prairie, and we were able to impact dozens of students in the Red Oak school district with sweatshirts for the winter and a family in desperate need during the holiday time.

A team of 7 young professionals dedicated their time and skills to organize a service center at Higher Dimension Church, where aid and essential services were distributed to those in need. Together, they coordinated a soccer tournament with the local youth, marking a significant milestone in the establishment of the new Hope Field in collaboration with More Than A Game!

8 Team members served alongside Jehovah Jirah Church in Las Cruces to complete the building of a home for Jesus, Maria, and their son. It was an honor for the team to not only contribute to the building process but also engage with a church service, forming meaningful connections and learning from the local community.

SILOÉ CHURCH

6 Team members partnered with Siloé Church to fund and build a perimeter wall around El Retén Village School that provides education for 249 students from kindergarten to 9th grade. The wall provides safety and security for the students and teachers, increasing the attendance and graduation rate.

The Harvest House provides emergency shelter for families needing immediate assistance, homeless children, and those removed because of abuse and neglect. Through our partnership, we’re able to offer families and children a place to stay and share with them God’s love while they are in between homes.

Mentors Care connects at-risk high school students with adult volunteers to mentor students toward graduation and purposeful lives.

“WHY I MENTOR”

I joined Mentors Care because I wanted to be able to provide a kid with a safe space in which they would feel loved, listened to, and cared for. Life can be pretty overwhelming for a kid, especially for kids in high school and especially those who feel a little bit lost in the world. Sometimes when kids don’t have support or guidance from family members, kids can get a little bit lost in life. I want to be there for those kids and help provide a little bit of guidance so that, hopefully, they would be a little bit less lost in the world.

JH Reach partners with the Oaks Church in Red Oak, Texas as our main local partner church. Many Household Group events are hosted there, including our monthly All Staff. Several employees have grown deeper roots in their faith as they have found a spiritual home for their family at the Oaks.

THE GLORY OF THE LORD AS THE WATERS COVER THE SEA.

ENLACE links people and churches in the U.S with people and churches in Central America and Nepal. They provide training, coaching, resources, and partnerships to help churches create long-term solutions to multidimensional poverty.

Through our partnership with ENLACE:

80% of people in El Salvador are affected by inadequate housing, and over 35% of impoverished Salvadoran families need a home This year, we were able to help build a home that provides security, health, and stability for a family of 3!

Additionally, we funded and built a protective perimeter wall around Retén Village School, ensuring a safe educational space for hundreds of students and teachers.

We partnered with Ananias House in the Middle East to provide food, clothing and emergency shelter and spiritual strength by having the local churches point people to hope in Christ during the Turkey and Syria Earthquake.

We partnered with Homes for Hope to help alleviate global poverty. We have made a remarkable donation of $73,529.82 , which will be dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of 2,491 families in underserved communities across the globe. What’s even more incredible is that 97% of the loan will be repaid and reinvested in aspiring entrepreneurs.

Through this incredible partnership, we are actively supporting biblically based training, savings services, and loans that not only restore dignity but also break the vicious cycle of poverty in countless communities around the world.

MARKETPLACE MINISTRY

In addition to our employee, local and global reach, JH Reach also aims to inspire and equip others in the marketplace to hear God’s voice so that they can withstand the storms of life and walk out their purpose.

Jesus said, “The Harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” Matthew 9:37

We believe in encouraging laborers already in one of the largest harvest fields of the world, the marketplace, to fulfill the great commission, make disciples, and reach those around them every day in their cubicle, job site, or boardroom.

We believe in sharing our story, experiences, mistakes, and strategies to help other businesses and marketplace leaders lead people to eternal hope.

Suit & Shepherd is a spiritually-focused professional resource that helps Christian leaders integrate their faith with their profession and confidently activate God’s purpose through their life’s work. Suit & Shepherd partnered with the John Houston team in 2022 to reach others.

John wrote, published, and launched a discipleship curriculum for young professionals that was implemented in the Household Group.

Suit and Shepherd had multiple speaking engagements, including one large international conference in Amsterdam focused on reaching people for Jesus Christ. The team was able to encourage other marketplace leaders how to use their businesses to reach people for Christ and give to the Kingdom.

John launched his second book, Trust and Follow, with Forefront Books.

There are over 23,000 subscribers or followers of John Houston’s newsletter and social media, where he posts weekly to help Christians integrate their faith into every aspect of their lives, including business.

John wrote and published a discipleship curriculum for CEO’s and Senior Leaders. Suit and Shepherd launches this curriculum with 9 CEO’s and Senior Leaders in January 2024.
