Happy New Year from JH Public Art! Every winter, JH Public Art launches GlowNights on the Winter Solstice when the Earth’s axis is tilted neither toward nor away from the sun -- a moment of nearly equal amounts of daylight and darkness shared around the world. The Solstice represents a time of renewal, a promise of more light in our days to give us a sense of hope and to inspire new beginnings. At JH Public Art, we embrace how public art brings the community together through shared experiences.

Please join us on January 12th, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, in the Center for the Arts Park with a sparkler party under giant glowing dandelions. We will have fizzy beverages ready for you!

Additionally, to usher in 2024, we are excited to present the Moonshot 5x5 on January 25th from 7 to 9 PM at the Center for the Arts. Please mark your calendars and join us for an evening inspired by biomimicry, the genius of nature’s designs. Moonshot 5x5 will celebrate nature-inspired innovation with keynote speaker Peter Lawrence and five amazing presenters who will share public art concepts. One will win a $3,000 prize!

Special Invitation Innovation Through Nature Workshop Friday, January 26, 12-2 PM, Center for the Arts Commons Introduction to nature-inspired sustainable problem solving through biomimicry with Biomimicry Specialist Peter Lawrence. For everyone who has ever created or designed anything and would like to learn how to think in a new more sustainable way about discovering solutions to design challenges.

The Moonshot 5x5 is presented with special thanks to Agnes Bourne.

This year, we are honored to share three exciting new projects created by Indigenous artists. Nanibah Chacon has been selected to create a mural for the exterior of the new History Museum in downtown Jackson. Her mural is guided by Indigenous language experts from the Wind River Reservation and will focus on Shoshone language. Stay tuned for the big reveal of her design and for two additional Indigenous artists whose three-dimensional artworks will be announced as part of our new exhibit titled, LandSignals, within the month.

Joyce will speak on the contemporary Indigenous art world, issues and opportunities in the field, and the forthcoming collaborative public art work by renowned artist Nanibah Chacon (Diné and Chicana).
