Typography A Brief History: Rhode Island Edition Typography A Brief History: Rhode Island Edition was created to show the evolution of typography throughout the state of Rhode Island. This book includes various pictures taken all around Providence and Newport. Some of the things mentioned in this book are the various types of fonts, the expression of pictographs, ideograms, and monograms, along with classifications of type. The book also dabbles in to the history of typography and various ways of displaying type.
Marco Pollo Food Truck I was tasked with creating branding for a hypothetical food truck company. This included designing a logo, packaging, vehicle graphics and menu design. My logo inspiration came from the game “Marco Polo”, where you have to find someone without looking, only using your senses. So I decided to create a location ping along with a chicken inside to go with the “pollo” part of the name. Overall this was a very fun project. The hardest part of this project was finding a good name, the rest came naturally.
Phoenix Suns Editorial The Phoenix Suns Editorial is a self-initiated hypothetical magazine that can be sold at Sun’s games highlighting the season thus far. The magazine will include player interviews, game schedules, and other topics relating to the players so you get more of an indepth look into their lives aside from basketball. For this specific layout, I found a recent interview done by Bleacher Report Mag that Devin Booker and Tyler Ulis did while hanging out at Devin’s apartment in Phoenix. The article goes in depth with their relationship, starting from high school all the way through college and now the NBA.
Bodoni Type Font Poster It was f irst designed by Giambattisa Bodoni in 1798 and is generally considered a “transitional” font type. Bodoni was a prolif ic type font designer and this particular font was highly influenced by the work of John Baskerville, a designer whose work Boadoni followed. The font, with its highly recognizable centered “Q” tail and slight hook in the “J”, was widely accepted by printers and can be seen in a broad variety of publications and uses since the late 1700s.
Bar 401 Invitation BAR 401 is a hypothetical bar opening invitation that would be sent out to potential customers. This invitation is printed on a coaster and wrapped with twine and a small tag letting you know that you have been invited to the grand opening. The goal of the project was to create a invitation that was warm and inviting but also had a call to action; something people could have for an incentive to come to the opening. By giving people a free drink as incentive, more people will most likely show up.
twenty sixteen calendar I was tasked with creating a simple calendar for 2016. When designing, I first started with a simple white and red color combination until changing it and going with a charcoal gray and light brown color. I felt that these two colors mixed well and was able to out them together nicely. For the layout, I made two designs, one portrait and the other one landscape. The portrait layout would fit well hanging on a wall while the landscape design could go well sitting on a desk. I also added the dates of all major holidays, along with each weekend in a dark brown color. This makes it so that it is easier to know when each weekend is. I originally did a Monday-Friday layout with the weekends in subscripts one on top of each other but realized that is was too cluttered and would be cleaner if it was layed out normally.

LivWell LLC CBD Label LivWell LLC is a trusted Cannabidiol Hemp Distributing Company, whose main purpose is to distribute only the best products. I was approached by a client who had recently started her own CBD Oil distributing company in Florida. The first thing she needed was branding for her company. Once we decided on a logo we went into creating a label for the oil itself. The color palette she wanted to go with was a forest green with a metallic gold.
LIFT T-Shirts During my internship during the Summer of 2017 I had the opportunity to work at LIFT Marketing, located in Saratoga Springs, NY. I my last few weeks they asked me to create different kinds of merch that they could use for the office. I was fortunate to be able to work on this throughout the whole process. I talked with people around the office to get opinions on what they preferred to see and what they would like to wear. The overall opinion was t-shirts/tank tops, coffee mugs, and a mouse pad. I have displayed the different designs I made for them. Once they were approved, I contacted the company we would use to print and send over various mechanicals to get them approved. Once that was all done, we were able to get them printed for everyone in the office. It was a great experience working with not only people in the office and the creative director, but working with people outside of the office like the printing company. It was a good learning experience.
ITC Avant Garde Package ITC Avant Garde is a font that I researched and created a package design for. Avant Garde is a font that was designed by Herb Lubalin in 1968. There are around 20 different styles within the font family ranging from Extra Light Condensed to Bold Oblique. I was tasked with creating a package for this typeface if you were to see it in a store. I created a monochromatic pattern for each side of the box. I then created various type lock-ups for each side of the box. I then added a QR Code on the bottom of the box for someone to learn more about the font.
Font Movie Poster For this projects we had to select a typeface that we wanted to use for a movie poster portraying that typeface and any kind of designer or artist that fit the typeface. For the poster I chose Avant Garde. I tried to portray the typeface using various hard lines and geometric shapes. Once I sketched out how I wanted the shapes to interact, I added color to the forms. The use of the different shades of blue works well with the forms.
CSS Animation In this project, we were tasked with creating some sort of CSS animation that had five different steps. The animation I decided to create was a piece of burnt toast popping out of a toaster and flying into the garbage. The Toast follows a path, smoke comes from the toaster, and the little handle also flies up on the toaster. This was one of the many web design projects that we produced in all Web I, II, and III. This project can be found on codepen.io under You’re Toast by Justin Galusha.
