About Our Honorees Dara & David Grossman

Dara and David Grossman live in Needham, MA with their three children, all of whom attend The Rashi School. Dara, originally from New Jersey, and David, a Needham native, are both deeply committed to Boston’s Jewish community. Dara recently completed a decade of service on the Gateways Board, concluding her tenure as co-President. She is currently a participant in the CJP Acharai Leadership Program, further deepening her engagement in Jewish communal life.

The Grossmans have long been inspired by the mission of Gateways and are proud supporters of its work. They believe deeply in the organization’s vital role in creating inclusive Jewish educational experiences and are honored to be recognized by a community they hold so close to their hearts.

Louis Grossman

Louis Grossman has been part of The Grossman Companies since 1980, when he and his father, Morton, purchased the family real estate business. In 2015, he became Chairman and proudly passed day-to-day leadership to his sons, David and Jacob, with whom he has grown the company’s portfolio and built a private real estate lending business. Louis graduated from Brown University with a degree in Economics and later earned an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School.

Beyond his professional work, Louis has long been involved in civic, charitable, and faith-based organizations, serving on boards and finance committees, and supporting causes that matter deeply to him, including Brown Hillel, the Union for Reform Judaism, Temple Beth Shalom in Needham, Combined Jewish Philanthropies, The Rivers School, Hebrew College, and the JCC of Greater Boston. Family has always been at the heart of Louis’ life. He and his wife, Amy Gerson, live in Weston, and enjoy time with their combined children and grandchildren.

Ellie & Barry Shrage

Ellie and Barry Shrage have been visionary leaders in the Greater Boston Jewish community for many decades. Through their personal and professional efforts, they have championed inclusive Jewish education and deepened family engagement in Jewish life and learning.

Ellie has a master’s degree in social work from Yeshiva University and is a Certified Early Intervention Specialist. She is an active volunteer and has served on numerous boards, including 12 years in various executive positions on the Gateways Board. Barry served as CEO and President of Boston’s Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP) from 1987-2018 and currently teaches at The Hornstein Program at Brandeis University and is affiliated with the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies.

Ellie and Barry are deeply and proudly committed to advancing Gateways’ mission of creating a Jewish community that is accessible and welcoming for individuals with disabilities. They live in Chestnut Hill and are the proud parents and in-laws to two children and their spouses, and devoted grandparents to six beloved grandchildren.
