THE UNEMPLOYED PHILOSOPHERS GUILD’s origins date from the time of Socrates – 399 BCE – and our one regret is the great philosopher never saw the finger puppet we made in his image. As you turn the pages of this catalogue, you’ll see some of the smartest, funniest, greatest ideas of all time – from the Renaissance to the Regency Era (we speak fluent Jane Austen) to the American Revolution to last Tuesday. As the U.S. relocated its capitol from Philadelphia to Trenton to a New York tavern to Washington, DC, UPG landed in the new nation. By the early 1990s, UPG HQ was New York City’s Lower East Side, where two brothers applied their advanced degrees and dedication to paying off student loans to fulfilling the people’s need for finger puppets, warm slippers, coffee mugs, and cracking up at stuff. Today, we continue the UPG tradition in the Brooklyn Ivory Tower. Our inspiring collection of great thinkers, dazzling artists, and unforgettable cultural icons will delight and inspire even your most hard-to-please customers.
