THE INSIDER CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION MONTH Story submitted by Wasa Murphy

April is Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention month, and we know that our colleagues working in Family Support program are experts in increasing protective factors- those that create stronger, more resilient families. Wasa Murphy, our very own Family Support Program Manager, took the time to share some simple ways that your clients or even you might increase protective factors at home: 1. Spending quality one-on-one time, actively listening, and showing affection, which help build strong, nurturing relationships. 2. Managing stress through healthy coping strategies and asking for help when needed strengthens parental resilience. 3. Staying connected with friends, family, or community groups provides valuable social support, while learning about child development and using positive discipline approaches enhances parenting skills. 4. Establishing routines for meals, bedtime, and school, and accessing community resources when needed, helps ensure basic needs are met. 5. Additionally, parents can support their children’s social and emotional development by teaching them to express their feelings, modeling respectful communication, and encouraging positive interactions with others. Together, these small but meaningful steps contribute to a stable, caring environment where children can thrive."
