Boulder Jewish Family Service Presents Reel Hope Boulder October 26 An Evening with Composer Rob Simonsen

JFS’s second annual fundraiser, “Reel Hope Boulder,” at the Dairy Center for the Arts, 2590 Walnut Street. This promises to be an exciting evening with Hollywood composer Rob Simonsen, renowned for his musical work on major films, including Life of Pi (11 Academy Award nominations, 4 wins), The Way Way Back, Wish I Was Here (now in theaters), and more. Rob has roots in Boulder, where he attended September School before moving to Oregon. He credits his music teacher and the school’s principal as having a positive influence on his life and musical career. Rob’s mother and stepfather, Rebecca and Nissan Cohen, live in Lafayette.

Ron Bostwick, an event producer and announcer, will interview Simonsen. Bostwick has interviewed many guests at the Boulder International Film Festival, along with David Klawans at last year’s Reel Hope Boulder event. Simonsen will share his music and personal insights about how he composes for films, TV shows, and commercials.

Guests will enjoy a pre-program reception with food and drinks. All proceeds benefit Boulder JFS.

Providing Safety and Support for Kati Pressman

Boulder JFS

has played an important role in Kati Pressman’s life for more than 15 years.

It started out simply when Kati started using the JFS rides program for shopping and errands. In 2004, Kati became a JFS client and started using more services such as care management, Friendly Visitor volunteer visits, and L’Dor V’Dor Shabbat meal deliveries.

Now 87, Kati lives by herself and has no family nearby, so JFS has become a vital support system for her. “There are so many ways that JFS has helped me. One example is that recently I was worried about using the stove because my eyesight is declining due to macular degeneration.

Before I even thought of this solution, JFS care manager Cathy Summer came to my apartment with a new microwave! It really helped me feel safer and cared for. I can’t buy that feeling or even describe what it’s like to wake up each day knowing that JFS is there for me.”

JFS has also secured funding for some of Kati’s dental work, provided rehab-to-home services after she was in the hospital, served as

an advocate for Kati, matched her with a Friendly Visitor volunteer, and helped connect her with home health care and other resources.

Kati adds, “I believe JFS is a crucial component to the community, not just because of my own personal experience, but because it reaches out to all the people who need it. I think it’s the only agency of its kind in Boulder.”
