General Director’s Letter Dear Readers, What a strange time we are living in! I seem to find myself saying this all too often, but it is so true. When we closed the campus we still had summer ahead of us.

Now, all these months later, we are beginning to think of Christmas, and I am still sitting here in my own home tapping away onto my laptop. I should be walking around our beautiful campus and sharing so much fun and active learning with everyone, as is our

Reading through this edition of JFK Times as it takes shape reminds me of quite how incredible the JFK is. We are not together on a daily basis and our only contact is electronic. Yet reading these pages you can just feel the energy, the enthusiasm, and the commitment to everything that is honest, decent and extraordinary about our school and community. Our students, our staff, our parents and our friends… we have all risen up to master this moment, to accept that this is not of our choosing but that we can find ways to continue with our traditions, our interests, our learning AND our dedication to each other as a community.

So as the nights get longer and cooler, and our dreams of a new-style Thanksgiving and Christmas begin to take shape, take a few minutes to click through these pages, and share with me all the warmth and beauty of the JFK to weather the storm and still come up shining! We are all out here, in our own houses, spread across this city, but connected more than ever as members of this wonderful community.

When we were required to close the campus in March 2020, we launched our Distance Online Learning Program (DOLP) as a platform to deliver instruction to students. We learned continually during those initial 4 months and came back in the Fall with new ideas, new schedules, and new activities. Many of these changes were developed through feedback we received from parents, teachers, and students.

It was clear from the beginning that we were all in this together, and it would take the support and effort of every member of the school community in order to be successful.

Armed with our experience, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, in August 2020 we returned to school with a new and improved DOLP 2.0. This new program included a full-day schedule for students in each section. The schedule included community building and support groups, additional live sessions with teachers, small group activities, the opportunity for students to exercise agency in taking care of their personal needs and in making decisions about how to use their time, office hours to provide individualized help from teachers, recorded classes, and independent work to be completed by the students on their own.

We learned continually during those initial 4 months and came back in the Fall with new ideas, new schedules, and new activities.

Obviously, technology has been an essential component of DOLP 2.0. The Technology Department at JFK has worked tirelessly to help students, teachers and parents with the inevitable issues that have arisen. Communication has also been important in keeping the school family informed. The website has been continually updated with relevant information and the school has facilitated frequent communication, including the Morning Messages for each section. Everyone has exercised patience, flexibility, and resourcefulness in dealing with Internet issues, device issues, expertise issues, and the challenges of learning new programs.

The success that we have experienced during these first weeks of school are a testament to the strength of our community. As we continue with the DOLP 2.0 program, we will continually make whatever tweaks and changes are needed in order to deliver the best possible educational experience for our students.

Thank you to all who have participated and supported the online learning process.

Together we are all achieving the extraordinary in these unusual, unexpected, and unprecedented times.

The best lessons in life are rarely chosen. At least, that is what my mom would tell me. Until this year, students were accustomed to hiking over to the auditorium with their friends, walking in and out of the rows of heavily decorated tables, and talking to smiling university representatives. Students took away handfuls of pamphlets, pens, and other college paraphernalia while excitedly chatting about which university prospects seem like a good match.

Forced to adjust in order to keep our community safe, we lost out on all that this year. The face to face contact with not only friends, but the university representatives has been an essential part of the JFK College Fair. In addition, the organic conversations that spontaneously arise with peers and school staff were notably absent. Being able to process the experience in real time is so important!

Communication regarding the details of fair registration were also a challenge in a virtual environment.

This year, I realized how important word of mouth information exchange is to our students. In a virtual environment, if a student doesn’t carefully read an email, they don’t have classmates there to remind them. Mr. Jake is not on the microphone with his “radio announcer” voice prompting a memory jar.

NEVERTHELESS, WITH ALL THE THINGS WE MISSED OUT ON, OUR STUDENTS WERE STILL ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITIES THIS VIRTUAL FAIR OFFERED. Students made connections with the university representatives, found out about the application process, and discovered scholarship opportunities.

This says something great about the JFK Community! We did not choose this, but we certainly adapted to the new circumstances!

An event that has been so important over the past 20 years was still able to happen despite being in the DOLP! I believe our ability to be in a new situation and make the most of something so important is just one example of how our community is able to adapt and thrive! Change brought about opportunity!

We welcome and facilitate the integration of new families by answering all their questions and help connect them to other expats from their own countries or that speak the same language when possible.

We communicate in English and usually meet once or twice a school year for coffee although this year we will have to wait.

Soy abogado. Un hombre que vivió de niño bajo los incentivos de las generaciones pasadas donde las pasiones se llamaban “hobbies”. Muy tarde comprendí que todo eso que la gente hace con fuego, alegría, felicidad y locura podía convertirse en una profesión. Por lo anterior, decidí vivir como un hombre duplicado. Continuar siendo abogado (de las pocas profesiones “aceptadas” que me gustaban), pero al mismo tiempo colmar de pasión todo aquel espacio restante de mi vida: me convertí también en escritor. En un periodo de 15 años logré publicar cuatro novelas en México y el extranjero, poner una obra de teatro, escribir durante 13 años en un periódico y cuatro años en una revista. ¿Cómo lo hice? Convenciendo a mi mente que podía narrar de manera profesional, sin importarme que alguna vez una maestra de secundaria me dijo: “tú nunca podrás escribir nada”. ¿Cómo se puede construir una novela?

Mis consejos serían cinco: 1. Es casi imposible vivir de la escritura. Entendiendo esto, derribas la falsa expectativa de ganar dinero y serás más auténtico en tus textos.

2. No escribas para la gente.

3. Somete tus textos a revisión. La retroalimentación es básica para enriquecer la construcción de tu historia.

4. Escribe de lo que sepas. Entre más domines el tema, mejor vas a narrar.

5. La pared siempre llega. Como en los maratones, al escribir llega la barrera de la “página blanca”. No te preocupes, la propia vida te va a dar nuevas ideas y te va a regresar al escritorio para volver a crear. El ejercicio de escribir es tan solitario como satisfactorio. Pasas de la reclusión al aplauso cuando el texto se ha publicado. Decía el pintor francés Emile Pissarro que de los ricos nadie se acuerda, pero de los artistas siempre ya que estos últimos trastocan las raíces mismas de la vida. Por ello, hay que escribir como quien compone música, siempre atento al detalle, al ritmo y a la sorpresa.

COCO CHANEL: AN INSPIRING STORY

I have a dream, a dream that I have constantly present in my mind and I have a thirst to accomplish it.

I know you do too! Your dream might be different from mine, bigger or smaller, crazy or ordinary, but that doesn’t matter.

It is a dream, it is your dream…

If there is something I have learned throughout the years, is that dreams do come true if you work hard enough to make them your reality. As you may well know many of the most important and successful people in the world had to start from the very bottom to reach the stars. This doesn’t mean that you jump and reach the spotlight, you will experience a big roller coaster because, you know what, c’est la vie!

If you do not believe me you can ask Coco Chanel (1883-1971), one of the most famous women in the fashion industry and one of the most accomplished women in the world.

When she was little she lived in a small village in France, where she spent most of her childhood with her father at the market, helping him make enough money to survive. Following the death of her mother when Coco was only twelve, she was sent to a

catholic orphanage. She spent her whole adolescence there learning from disciplinary nuns who raised the capable women she became.

The only family she kept contact with were her aunts.

At the age of 18 she left the orphanage and went to live with her aunt Louise. It was her who taught her how to make clothes and how to sew. By then, Coco was starting to envision sewing as more than just a hobby. She got a seamstress job and befriended wealthier men who stopped by to get their clothes altered. Her new friends gave her an insight on the wealthier side of society, awakening her sense of fashion and roaring ambition. To make ends meet, she also sang in cabarets and gained her famous nickname there, Coco!

We can see that Coco Chanel was a unique woman who was born to revolutionize the present she lived in. While involved with Etienne Balsan, a wealthy Frenchman, she continued to be exposed to the French upper class, but could not make any sense in the way the women dressed. The tight corsets, heavy skirts, and loads of fabric made women look more like an ornament that struggled to barely move.

She started dressing the way she liked, comfortable but chic and raised the attention of society. Sometime later, Coco decided to take her destiny into her own hands, and she broke up with Balsan. In the process, she met Boy Capel, with whom she fell in love.

With the help of Balsan and Capel, Coco Chanel was able to open her first boutique. Within the first year, she opened the second one and so on.

Oh but, let’s pause for a second; I previously warned you that life was a roller coaster, so please fasten your seatbelts and prepare for the downfall.

World War I was starting, everything was a mess and dread filled everyone.

Women in that time had to take the jobs of men in town and to do so, they needed practical clothing. Chanel saw an opportunity and seized it. As she once said, “The world was dying while another one was being born”. Sometime later, the war ended, but not everything was a joy. The only man that Coco loved died, and she was destroyed.

She used that grief and anger towards life transforming it into her power to continue. She was very successful, she created her iconic little black dress and completely changed women’s fashion closer to her own taste. Channel was on a high streak, launching her No. 5 perfume and gaining a fortune with her designs. Then World War II started, she got involved with a member of the Nazi group and got involved in a plan they had called Operation Modellhot. She was later arrested and lost the thing that mattered the most to her: the Coco Chanel fashion houses. She moved away to Switzerland and witnessed her legacy slowly fading away, and the women adopting back heavy fashion by Christian Dior. Coco felt the desire to come back, and so she did, launching one of her most important clothing lines. Unfortunately, she was considered a fraud regarding her involvement with Hitler. To her advantage, the United States liked

her designs, and she continued to grow her brand there as a fashion icon. Soon after, Europe decided to forget her past, and nowadays the Coco Chanel fashion house is a worldwide icon worth thousands of dollars.

Coco Chanel is a great example to all of us who have a dream but are living in the very hard time of the 2020 pandemic. Coco Chanel used to believe that if she wanted to be as big as her dreams she needed to do it alone, but then realized she would have liked to have someone to truly hold her hand in the process. She once said, “Chanel above all else is a style, fashion you see, goes out of fashion; But style never.” Coco Chanel was a woman who stood up for herself no matter the circumstances and always sought to learn from her mistakes. You should always remember that you have the power to change your own life if you take action.

The most important part is for you to stand up from the ground the necessary times, and continue walking forward. It is never too late to start again and be the version you perceived yourself to be. I do have a dream, a dream that is within my grasp, and I will not let go until I can give my hand to it and shake it. I have the idea that fashion is my voice, and I want my voice to be heard. So let’s all shout and make the world hear us no matter the noise in our surroundings. Make yours louder!

¿Qué es mindfulness?

En los últimos años el término mindfulness ha inundado las redes sociales. Desde talleres, libros, aplicaciones, audios, hasta productos consumibles que son muy “mindful” y prometen darnos bienestar. Se suele asociar este término a la idea de que con unos minutos de atender tu respiración vas a estar muy relajado.

Este término se empezó a utilizar en Estados Unidos hace más de 50 años, después de que varios psicólogos e investigadores adaptaran las prácticas de meditación aprendidas en Oriente al contexto occidental.

Por ahora, en este escrito pretendo desmitificar el mindfulness y compartirles cómo es que puede beneficiarnos en momentos adversos o de incertidumbre como los que vivimos desde que inició la pandemia.

Traducido como atención plena o consciente, mindfulness es un entrenamiento mental. Y como todo entrenamiento toma muchas horas de práctica para poder experimentar sus beneficios y sostenerlos en el tiempo. El objetivo es entrenar a nuestra mente para que pueda estar presente de manera estable, en calma y sin juicios en lo que sea que se le presente o aquello que decidamos atender.

Imagina que planeas tu día. Tienes previstos muy bien tus tiempos y tus actividades, pero al salir de casa notas una llanta baja. Tienes un problema.

Si además de la llanta baja, tu mente empieza a alocarse pensando cosas como “¡Ah, rayos!, ya se arruinó mi día, voy a quedar mal con los clientes, ¿Por qué tenía que pasar hoy? Que mala suerte tengo ¿Me la habrá ponchado el vecino al que le reclamé que no limpia los desechos de su perro?, bla, bla, bla…

Ahora tienes más de un problema. Pero si al salir notas la llanta baja y piensas: “Tengo una llanta baja, ¿a quién debo avisar que llegaré tarde? Ok, ya marqué al primer cliente, ahora me enfoco en cambiar la llanta”. Tienes un problema y estás haciendo algo para resolverlo. ¿Quieres una mente que pueda estar presente y en calma y que esto te brinde bienestar y felicidad? Sin duda, creo que todos responderemos que sí.

Pero, ¿cómo lograrlo? Si tu meta fuera correr un maratón, no te levantas un día antes a correr cinco minutos y piensas que con eso es suficiente. No piensas: “pues si ya corrí cinco minutos diarios durante una semana… ¿cómo es que no aguanté ni tres kilómetros el día de la carrera?”

De la misma manera, no podemos pretender que con observar nuestra respiración durante cinco minutos diarios vamos a tener una mente en calma el resto del día.

Considera que llevamos años practicando lo contrario… estrés, acelere, multitask; en esto sí que somos expertos.

Este entrenamiento tiene varios aspectos igualmente importantes.

Estar presente con la mente en algo que estás percibiendo, en un estímulo en particular.

Esto es, darte cuenta de algo, notarlo, observarlo sin distraerte. Esto te permite conocer los detalles, vivir la experiencia en su totalidad y no a medias (como cuando estamos viendo una película y nuestro teléfono al mismo tiempo).

Otro aspecto es poder hacer esto, pero libre de juicios, sin etiquetas. Poder atender algo sin pensar… “Qué bonito, ojalá dure, ah qué lindo, que nadie me lo quite…” o “no debería pasarme esto, es el colmo, ¿qué hice para merecerlo?, que ya pase…” Este tipo de pensamientos nos generan apego o aversión hacia lo que experimentamos y, por lo tanto, la consecuencia es una mente agitada… por no decir un poco neurótica.

Un aspecto más de este entrenamiento es poder hacer esto con bondad hacia nosotros mismos. Nos sentamos, iniciamos el ejercicio de mindfulness, nos distraemos con la comezón en la pierna, regresamos la respiración, nos distraemos con unas voces, regresamos a la respiración, recordamos el enojo que tuvimos en la mañana cuando nuestro hijo azotó la puerta… y regresamos a la respiración, nos damos cuenta de lo aburrido que es hacer esto y que tenemos sueño… y que ¿qué crees? regresamos a la respiración… con amabilidad, sin forzarlo, con bondad hacia nosotros mismos. ¿Y todo esto cómo me sirve en tiempos de cuarentena? ¿O en cualquier situación adversa, de cambio o de incertidumbre? ¿Recuerdas los tres aspectos?

Sea lo que sea que te toque vivir en este año de sorpresas… atiéndelo, obsérvalo, no te distraigas, permítete sentir las emociones que se presenten. No dejes que tu mente se agite con un sinfín de pensamientos que no te permitan ver las cosas con claridad. No juzgues, ¿será bueno, malo, positivo o negativo? En realidad depende de la interpretación que tú le des. Sin aferrarte… “ojalá todo vuelva a ser como antes, tan bien que estábamos” y sin rechazar “estar encerrado es horrible, ya quiero que esto acabe”. Y, por último, sé bondadoso contigo mismo. Cuídate, aprecia las cosas buenas que haces, regocíjate de tus logros, suelta todo y descansa cuando lo necesites, y si te estresas… suavemente regresa al respirar.

No dejes de practicarlo un solo día, todos sabemos que si dejas de correr… no podrás completar el maratón el año entrante.

The What I Need (WIN) blocks were introduced in high school as part of the DOLP 2.0 (Distance Online Learning) The New Distance Online learning version, calls for more synchronous classes and the high school team scheduled these blocks twice a day in the students’ timetable. On a normal school day, students move from one class to another, chat in the hallways, stop teachers after class to ask about assignments, go to the cafeteria for a quick snack or to the library to check out a book. During distance learning, a student can very well be studying continuously if nothing prompts them to take a break.

As explained by high school principal Bob Callahan:

“The idea for WIN Blocks came out of seeing that each individual student had a different experience during our transition to distance online learning last year and had different needs. Some students needed time to stretch, eat and exercise and others wanted time to connect with mentors, teachers, and counselors. So, we designed the WIN Blocks to allow each student the opportunity to choose how to use the block to be happy, healthy, and successful based on their own individual needs.”

I reached out to the high school community to find out how in reality the WIN blocks are being used. Among students, the majority is using the blocks to eat, sleep, catch up on work or follow up with teachers. Others prefer to take a mental break to rest their eyes and minds. To the question are you using the win block to its full potential, most of the answers were yes, but students added that they needed to avoid distractions, mostly their own phones! Lucía Miranda Lira, grade 12 student sums it up pretty well “During WIN I mainly take a break from school, I

spend time with my dog and my family, stretch. When I have lots of assignments, I use that time for meetings or for doing homework.”

I also asked for suggestions on how the blocks could work better for them.

Some suggested that they could be longer, especially on PE days in which they end up only having a 15-min break. Other students suggested that they would love to be able to create google meets with classmates to just hangout in a virtual form of recess but that the settings prevent them from doing it.

“I love the WIN Blocks because I am able to use that time to connect with students. We have short meetings to catch up about how life in the DOLP and in quarantine is going, and to hear feedback about classes and student needs.

It’s also a nice time to grab a cup of coffee and catch up. I totally encourage folks that don’t have other meetings to get outside and get some sun... we need that Vitamin D and time to step away!”

“It is really important that students take advantage of this time and try to disconnect as much as possible from the screens. We are aware that spending so much time on their screens can be very stressful” she goes on suggesting “Distribute the workload and as much as possible try to use WIN time to stretch, go out for a walk, a little bit of yoga or exercise. I truly believe that taking this time to do those types of activities can be super beneficial on students’ mood and mental health.”

I will conclude this little window on WIN blocks by saying that as a parent I am very grateful to see the school taking the mental well-being of our children so much at heart and that I am very proud of the students for using this opportunity to the best of their capability.

Finally, for Mariana Quintana Franco, High School Counselor and Psychology Teacher the students should consider planning their work load ahead so that they can free up a WIN block or two during their school week thus allowing them to take a breather from screens.

¿Qué debo hacer si mi hijo es víctima?

Si usted lo sabe o tiene esa sospecha: No amenace con quitarle el dispositivo o cortar su tiempo de conexión a internet. Esto podría percibirse como un castigo y por eso tal vez esté menos dispuesto a comentarle acerca de este tipo de situaciones en el futuro.

Si hay evidencia en línea, guarde una captura de pantalla. Esto podría ser útil si fuera necesario denunciar el hecho.

Hable con su hijo sobre la experiencia. Los estudios demuestran que contar con tan solo una persona que los escuche y apoye ayuda a los niños que sufrieron acoso a manejar mejor la situación.

La mayoría de las plataformas de redes sociales tienen un proceso para denunciar la mala conducta. Si un compañero de clase está acosando a su hijo, denuncie en la escuela.

La experiencia de acoso de un niño también puede ser estresante para los padres. Es conveniente que consideren la posibilidad de buscar a alguien con quien hablar, que les brinde apoyo. (En la escuela contamos con el Comité Anti Bullying, el cual tiene un representante en cada sección y todos están para ayudarte).

La tecnología es una herramienta que se ha vuelto indispensable en nuestras vidas. No podemos evitar que nuestros hijos la usen, por eso es importante que los enseñemos a usarla de manera responsable; es importante establecer reglas para el uso de esta (tiempo limitado, uso de búsquedas seguras, control parental...).

Como padres debemos mantenernos informados y actualizados en el uso de redes sociales y, sobre todo, mantener una comunicación abierta con nuestros hijos.

Estamos viviendo una época insólita a nivel mundial que ha cambiado nuestra dinámica laboral, social y familiar, entre otras. Esto nos ha orillado a modificar, innovar y crear nuevas estrategias para adaptarnos a una nueva normalidad y modo de vida y, por ende, nuestro rol como papás ya no es el mismo.

De un día a otro nuestras actividades se modificaron, provocando una serie de crisis, un sin fin de emociones que se han ido moviendo de arriba abajo; esta contingencia ha ocasionado que nos sintamos aún más vulnerables.

Con la finalidad de seguir apoyando a nuestra comunidad, en el JFK cada departamento realiza su mejor esfuerzo innovando procesos que se adapten a la dinámica virtual y el equipo se Student Support Services no es la excepción, el equipo de psicólogas ha estado trabajando en la adaptación de los diferentes programas, ahora de manera virtual, para continuar con el apoyo continuo en cada sección.

PARENT TALKS es uno de los programas de conferencias para padres de la comunidad que desde 2017 ha organizado conferencias con expertos en temas diversos. Actualmente nos hemos dado a la tarea, ahora en la modalidad de videoconferencias, de compartir con ustedes temas que contribuyan a que ustedes y sus hijos se sientan apoyados en estos momentos de estrés e incertidumbre y en los que la parte virtual se ha convertido en la forma más importante para estar comunicados.

El pasado 23 de septiembre se llevó a cabo la videoconferencia “Sexualidad y Pandemia, ¿Qué hacer con nuestros hijos?” impartida por Regina Novelo. El 21 de octubre tendremos: “Ser mamá en la nueva normalidad” por Fabiola Sánchez. Y en noviembre: “¿Qué tipo de relación tienes con tu pantalla? por Regina Pelayo.

Cada videoconferencia se realiza por la aplicación virtual ZOOM en punto de las 8 p.m.

Como equipo de psicología nos hemos dado a la tarea de crear un programa basado en las dudas más frecuentes que los padres de familia tienen sobre los diferentes procesos que se llevan a cabo en la escuela, como SEESAW, POWER SCHOOL, ¿qué debo hacer o a quién debo acudir si mi hijo es de nuevo ingreso? ¿Cómo apoyar a mi hijo en sus clases sin tomar el rol de maestro?

Con este programa, TOOLS FOR PARENTS, cada una de las psicólogas realiza entrevistas en vivo a expertos de diferentes áreas de nuestro staff, con el fin de orientar sobre estos temas.

Estas entrevistas se realizan en vivo a través de INSTAGRAM en un horario de 8 p.m. o pueden verse grabadas en cualquier otro momento.

El pasado 14 de septiembre se llevó a cabo la inauguración de TOOLS FOR PARENTS teniendo como invitada estelar a la tallerista, conferencista internacional y mamá de la comunidad Cristina Fortuny.

Asimismo, la Psicóloga Yesica E. Gómez de la sección de PSa entrevistó a Rossy Cajiga, Academic Technology Coordinator, de nuestro Staff administrativo, quien respondió algunas dudas frecuentes sobre SEESAW, POWER SCHOOL y otras cuestiones de tecnología.

National Honor Society es una organización mundial en donde estudiantes de la preparatoria descubren y desarrollan habilidades para ayudar y mejorar la sociedad.

Los miembros del grupo son seleccionados de acuerdo con los cuatro criterios de valores: liderazgo, servicio, carácter y erudición.

Por ello, estar en NHS significa tener una gran responsabilidad para representar a la escuela y promover el servicio para poder alcanzar nuestro objetivo. Asimismo, el objetivo principal del NHS en la escuela John F Kennedy es disminuir el hambre en Querétaro.

Durante mis dos años dentro del NHS, he trabajado duro junto con los otros miembros para apoyar al Banco de Alimentos, una organización en Querétaro que trabaja en combatir la pobreza alimentaria, repartiendo alimentos para personas que los necesitan.

Cada año se seleccionan cuatro líderes del comité dentro del NHS: presidente, vicepresidente, secretario y tesorero. Este año me seleccionaron como secretaria; por lo tanto, decidí trabajar más duro para poder guiar a los miembros durante un año.

Sin embargo, la situación del COVID-19 nos ha limitado estar en un espacio juntos; por esta razón, los proyectos que teníamos

planeados para este año se cancelaron y tuvimos que planear otros, los cuales se pueden hacer a distancia. Lo primero que se nos ocurrió es la creación de una nueva cuenta de Instagram con la ayuda del equipo de comunicación para poder promover los proyectos que haremos durante un año entre los estudiantes de la escuela y con personas fuera de la comunidad JFK. El segundo fue una venta de playeras diseñadas por los miembros de NHS, las cuales fueron entregadas con la ayuda de nuestros papás. Este proyecto tenía el objetivo de recaudar dinero para donarlo al Banco de Alimentos, lo cual fue todo un éxito. El tercero se centra en apoyar a las niñas de Raíz Mujer, una agrupación de mujeres que trabaja con y para las mujeres, específicamente del municipio de Amealco. Por varios años la escuela ha apoyado a dicho grupo a través de becas escolares para niñas de dicha comunidad, con el fin de que puedan ir a la escuela a aprender. No obstante, la contingencia del COVID-19 ha limitado a estas estudiantes a que vayan a la escuela, por lo que están recibiendo clases en línea. Por ello, los miembros de NHS hemos decidido ayudarlas para que puedan seguir aprendiendo de manera eficiente. La manera en que vamos a apoyarlas está por definirse, pero ya tuvimos una junta con las representantes de Raíz Mujer y habrá otra con los estudiantes del NHS y las niñas de Amealco para seguir avanzando en dicha iniciativa.

Próximamente se incorporarán otros miembros a NHS. Con ello esperamos poder iniciar más proyectos con nuevas ideas para ayudar a la escuela y a la comunidad, especialmente en estos tiempos difíciles para todos.

El efecto del cambio climático es más evidente que nunca, hay pérdidas en el hielo marino, aumento de la acidez en los mares y las temperaturas continuarán elevándose por el efecto del gas invernadero, deforestación, especies en peligro de extinción, pérdida de biodiversidad causado por la actual actividad humana, que suman cada día un desequilibrio ambiental.

Ante este panorama poco favorable se deben cuidar los recursos bióticos y abióticos existentes en nuestro planeta, la Tierra. Tomar cartas en el asunto es más urgente que nunca, ya que tenemos poco tiempo para implementar cambios y revertir los daños.

Si todos los miembros de la especie humana contribuyéramos con un cambio radical en nuestro quehacer diario, se lograría un mejor actuar y la cadena de vida existente tendría un escenario equilibrado, con la posibilidad de valorar, proteger y respetar los ecosistemas.

Educación para un futuro sostenible “En el tema del medio ambiente no hay un responsable, se trata de una responsabilidad compartida”

Existen instituciones gubernamentales y no gubernamentales que cada día realizan diversas acciones a favor del medio ambiente; unas a gran escala y otras con proyectos más pequeños, pero al final todo suma pues no hay un solo responsable, sino una responsabilidad compartida.

Como institución educativa, la Escuela John F. Kennedy cada año realiza estrategias y actividades de intervención con la finalidad de promover una educación ambiental y contribuir al desarrollo educativo integral de sus alumnos.

Actualmente la escuela cuenta con siete certificaciones como Escuela Sustentable del Estado de Querétaro, avaladas por SEMARNAT, Delegación Querétaro, y otra más a nivel nacional en ese mismo lapso; también ha sido miembro activo del Comité de Escuelas Sustentables del estado.

El programa de escuela sustentable está basado en la guía de Escuela Verde diseñado por SEMARNAT, documento que orienta sobre un importante modelo de gestión ambiental.

Para este ciclo escolar y los que siguen se fortalecerá el programa de Escuela Sustentable con diversas acciones y actividades trascendentes para promover en la comunidad una cultura de sostenibilidad y hábitos saludables

Para este ciclo escolar y los que siguen se fortalecerá el programa de Escuela Sustentable con diversas acciones y actividades trascendentes para promover en la comunidad una cultura de sostenibilidad y hábitos saludables, con la finalidad de crear conciencia hacia una vida sustentable, conocer los beneficios del consumo local de productores y/o las organizaciones relacionadas con actividades ambientales, impulsar la cultura del reuso, es decir, eliminar el UN SOLO USO, crecer nuestro huerto escolar para consumo propio de nuestros animalitos, fortalecer nuestra política de reducción, reuso y reciclado de residuos, nuestro ECOCLUB, y cada día hacer más grande nuestra feria ambiental.

El ECOCLUB, que tiene como objetivo sensibilizar y adquirir conocimientos sobre el medio ambiente, así como desarrollar valores ecológicamente responsables de una manera divertida y positiva, este año arrancará con 37 participantes de todas las secciones. Debido a la pandemia, las sesiones serán de manera virtual una vez por semana y tendrán una duración de 30 a 60 minutos. Cada sección tendrá a su maestro/a responsable.

Hago una invitación a alumnos, padres de familia y staff a involucrarse cada día más en nuestro Programa Ambiental, para seguir siendo una escuela modelo y líder en gestión ambiental en el estado de Querétaro.

Por último, quiero aprovechar este espacio para reconocer y valorar a Miss Luza, quien impulsó y motivó a maestros, directores y alumnos a involucrarse en el tema ambiental. ¡Gracias por compartir su tiempo, dedicación y pasión!

A raíz de las reclusiones masivas se comenzaron a viralizar videos de animales habitando lugares insólitos como catedrales, ríos urbanos y las calles de las ciudades. Nada mejor para eso que ver la serie documental Nuestro Planeta.

Un documental que muestra en todo su esplendor la belleza del planeta tierra y su biodiversidad, pero con un mensaje claro: nuestro estilo de vida se ha modificado y es necesario pensar en la sustentabilidad de nuestra existencia. Es por eso que al final de cada episodio invita a ver un video de cómo salvar el planeta.

Conducido por el cocinero Michael Pollan, cada capítulo presenta un recorrido por la cocina, su historia y la forma en que nos vinculamos con ella. Usando los cuatro elementos: fuego, aire, tierra y agua como índices, promueve una reflexión sobre la relación que mantenemos con lo que comemos y el avance que tienen los ultraprocesados frente a la cocina tradicional.

Acá no hay posiciones, en este documental solo se cuenta una historia que no tiene bandos de “buenos” y “malos”. Wild Wild Country cuenta cómo el líder espiritual Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (actualmente conocido como Osho) y sus seguidores construyeron una ciudad en las remotas tierras de Oregón y la resistencia que el pueblo ofreció.

El documental es una clase de montaje en sí, con una historia que parece inverosímil, donde seguidores de la paz y la iluminación patrullan las calles armados.

En medio del encierro este documental viene a activar la creatividad. El neurocientífico David Eagleman realiza entrevistas a inventores, arquitectos, músicos, animadores y escritores para definir qué es la creatividad y si se puede ser original.

Raiders! The Story Of The Greatest Fan Film Ever Made

Este documental cuenta la historia de un grupo de amigos que después de ver Indiana Jones: En busca del arca perdida, quedaron tan obsesionados con la película que decidieron hacer su versión, plano por plano. Durante siete años el grupo dedicó toda su adolescencia a cumplir ese sueño; sin embargo, no pudieron filmar una de las escenas que eran parte de la cinta.

Después de 30 años se reúnen para darle un cierre a este filme hecho por fans de la historia.
