The National Stud is the only Thoroughbred stud in the UK to open its doors to the general public, giving a unique insight into the world of Thoroughbred breeding.
Depending on the season and daily activities on the Stud, visitors can expect to see mares with their young foals in the paddocks, yearlings and stallions, all in the truly beautiful grounds of The National Stud. You will also hear about the history behind the Stud and an overview of the work that goes into producing the future champions of the racetrack from one of our highly knowledgeable guides. Our resident equine celebrities are firm favourites with all of our visitors. Retired Grade 1 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Lord Windermere and Grade 2 winner Jack The Giant are based at the stud, and Treacle the Shetland pony is always on hand near to the coffee shop to welcome you as you arrive.
While you are with us you can visit our on-site coffee shop. It is open all year round and sells delicious cakes, sandwiches and hot food with many seasonal specialities to complement the daily menu.
Alongside the coffee shop, in the Weatherbys Pavilion, is our artist in residence Chris Winch. Chris has had work selected for exhibitions with the Society of Equestrian Artists, and at exhibitions around East Anglia; all of his work is original and his gallery is well worth a visit.
REVIEWS
"I was thrilled by how hands-on the tour was; we patted and were nuzzled by dozens of beautiful thoroughbreds and could see inside the covering sheds, stallion stables and barns. The tour was very efficiently planned - we were whisked around in a comfortable minibus, and even had time for a heavily subsidised lunch at the Stud Coffee Shop. If you love horses, you must do this tour. Fabulous value for money."

"Our guide was perfect; knowledgeable very friendly, amusing and professional, and put across his story in an excellent manner. The tour is around 90 mins, and looks at the history and purpose of the National Stud. It's almost an introduction to what happens and why, and you can stop there or explore in more depth with the other tours on offer. The on-site coffee shop is excellent too!"
