The Jewish Federation of Omaha and its Centers of Excellence have selected 15 men and women to be honored as Volunteers of the Year at the Annual meeting on Monday, June 7, 7:30 p.m., at the Jewish Community Center.- —-*~--~. :-:-.:^ -*-_• ' Marine Kirshenbaum and Jan Schneiderman have been named as the Federation volunteers of the year for their success with the Women's Campaign and the 'Dr. Ruth' luncheon. Drawing a crowd of more than 350 women from the Women's Campaign, the event resulted in a 14% increase in pledges. Kirshenbaum, who co-chaired the Women's Campaign 'with Schneiderman, has served on the JCC Board and has been an active member of National Council of Jewish Women over the years. Schneiderman was President of NCJW, Omaha Section, from 1976-80; chaired the UJA/Federation Women's Campaign twice, in 1991 and again in 1998, and was a Vice-president of the Federation and served on its Strategic Planning Committee. She was recently elected National President of NCJW. Patty and Steve Nogg and Marcia and Steve Pitlor were selected by the JCC as Volunteers of the Year for chairing the community portion of the Capital fundraising campaign. Together they succeeded in raising close to $8.5 million from more than 650 families to fund the construction of a new Fitness Center, Child Development Center, Women's Health Club and Library.

Edith Rogert Justin Cooper Jewish Family Service named Shelly Fox as its Volunteer of the Year for her dedication and leadership of the Tzedakah Project over the past several years. Frances Gottlieb and Joyce Cohen were chosen by the Jewish Federation Library for their tremendous input and dedication to library projects. As Chairman of the Library Committee, Gottlieb has involved herself in the computerization of library materials and has given endless hours to bar-coding books. Cohen has been involved in many aspects of the operation of the library, from being President of the Board to chairing a Book Fair luncheon to creating imaginative centerpieces and many library programs. The Jewish Press has selected Steve Levinger for his service to the Press since 1993, as a board

member, Vice-president, and currently Chairman. With his support and leadership, the Jewish Press has grown and prospered, winning awards, gaining advertisers and-loyal readership. Levinger has also co-chaired Super Sunday and served on the 'Federation Board of Directors. Eileen Reiner is the Volunteer of the Year for Jewish Senior Services (JSS) for her many years of service to the Jewish community. She divides her time among the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home (RBJH), Older Adult Programs at the JCC (the Oldtimers and Young Energetic Seniors) and Beth El Synagogue. Her nomination stated, "Her ability to make residents feel unique makes her a priceless asset to JSS." JSS/RBJH has chosen Elliott Banner as Volunteer of the Year for his kind and willing assistance with any project. His nomination stated, "He goes about his work very quietly, making every resident feel special through a pat on the shoulder, a kind word, or sharing of a sack of popcorn." Karin L e v i n e was chosen by Jewish Educational and Library Services as its Volunteer of the Year. Between her involvement with the JELS Board and the Friedel Jewish Academy, she has helped provide wonderful opportunities for the students. Her creativity and willingness to;give her time and effort are valuable assets to the community. (Continued on page 2)

NCCJ honors community leaders The National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ), Midlands Region, has announced that five community leaders will be honored at its 1999 Humanitarian Award Dinner on Wednesday, June 2 , 6 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Central. Jack and Judy Baker are serving as Dinner Cochairmen for the event. Jack Baker is Chairman and CEO of Baker's Supermarkets; Judy Baker is Creative Difector for Special Events, Baker's Flowers. Harley D. Schrager, Phillip G. Schrager and Kenneth E. and Ann M. Stinson will receive Humanitarian Awards. Brenda J. Council will be honored with the Otto Swanson Spirit of Service Award.
