Wally Elkon and Art Grossman will be honored as Volunteer of the Year at the 1998 United Way Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Luncheon on April 21 at noon at Ak-Sar-Ben Hall. Elkon was selected for his work with Visions, a senior group with over 340 members, in the Elderly category. Grossman was honored for his tireless work with Federation and other Jewish philanthropies, in the Religion category. He was also named the Federation's 1997 Humanitarian of the Year, the community's highest honor.

Elkon Is Executive Chairman ofVisions, and has been 'instrumental in the growth of the group, as well as.continuing to develop the Mitzvah committee, leading the board-'and luncheon meetings, assisting at all. Visions functions and co-chairing the Cultural Committee with his wife, Jean. Grossman is the retired Regional Manager of Renfield Importers and currently-works as the Editor and Columnist for Beverage.Analyst, _a liquor industry magazine. He has served on virtually every Federation Center of Excellence board of directors, including the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Family Service' and Bureau for the Aging (now Jewish Senior Services). He continues to work on the Federation Annual Campaign as co-chairman of the Oldtimers Division. "I was. taught to do this—I'm Jewish," said Grossman. "The word in Hebrew is tzedakah and it doesn't mean charity; it means justice. It means that as Jews we even things out for everyone else. I'm very proud to, receive this honor from the United Way," he said; Elkon said, 1 am deeply honored to receive this award. But, my big award comes when I see the faces of the seniors who participate in a trip or a program that has been arranged by Visions. We are seniors having fun!"

The dinner, to be held April 29 at Highland Country Club, recognizes the tremendous contributions made by members of the Mojor Gifts campaign divisions, which include: Pomegranate (a minimum gift of $1,800 to the Annual Campaign) and lion of Judah (a $5,000 minimum gift to the Annual Campaign) for the Women's Campaign Divisions; and Pacesetter ($6,000 minimum gift), Joshua's Circle ($10,000 minimum gift), Chai Circle ($18,000 minimum gift), King Solomon Circle ($25,000 minimum gift), and Prime Minister's Circle ($100,000 minimum gift) for the Men's Campaign Divisions. 1998 Pacesetter Chairmen Bob Eisenberg and Bob Newman said, "We:are proud to offer a speaker of this caliber to our major donors. the inner workings of Israeli politics. "Anytime that we, in the Diaspora, can gain insight into the diversity issue and the Middle East peace process, we welcome it. Dr. Beilin's remarks will be incredibly interesting," they said. Outspoken and widely quoted, Dr. Yoasi Beilin has held many positions in the Knesset, including Deputy Minister of Finance, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Economics and Planning, and Minister in the Prime Minister's office. He is currently a member of the Committee on the Status of Women, and the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee. , During his career, Beilin has been a teacherresearcher at Tel-Aviv University, a journalist for Davar newspaper, Labour Party Spokesman, Government Secretary and Political Director General of Foreign Ministry. He resides in TelAviv with his wife and two children.. Dr. Beilin is known for his views on the Middle East peace process, pluralism, women's issues and US/Israel relations. He has written several books, including: Sons in the Shadow of Their Fathers, The Price of Unity, Hebrew Industry-Roots, IsraelForty Plus, Israel: A Concise Political History, and Touching Peace.
