IN5CCJ will honor six Omahans at annual Humanitarian Dinner The National Conference of Christians and Jews Midlands Region will honor six Omahans at its annual Humanitarian Award Dinner on Tuesday, May 20, at. the Ak-Sar-Ben Coliseum.. Dave and Liz Karnes, and Alan, Fred and Steve Simon will receive 1997 NCCJ Humanitarian Awards. Truman Clare will be presented the Otto Swanson Spirit of Service Award, given to those who have spent their lives working with others, promoting understanding among communities. The NCCJ Humanitarian Award is presented annually to honor and give public recognition to the recipients for their contributions to the community and dedication to the mission of The National Conference. In addition to extensive community involvement, Dave Karnes serves in an "of counsel" capacity to Kutak Rock and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka. He is President and CEO of The Fairmont Group, Inc. and.a member of the U.S. Advisory Committee on Trade . (Continued on page 8) •

UNO to bestow honorary doctorate Moshe Katsav, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism of the State of Israel, will receive an honorary doctorate from University of Nebraska at Omaha from President Dennis Smith at a ceremony at the William H. Thompson Alumni Center on Tuesday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m.

ADL launches Internet auction The Anti-Defamation League launched the first ever "Take A Byte Out Of Bigotry"- Internet auction recently at Julio's followed by an event featuring computers supplied'by Intelh'tek and free Internet < access on high speed lines provided by US West TeleChoice On-Line, both corporate sponsors. The auction will be online through Sunday, May 11 at 11 p.m. Successful bidders will be notified by e-mail on May 12. The site is located: at: http://www.bigo try.org The auction features a variety of items in three categories. The first is "general items," or retail goods. The second is called "marketplace" and lists items sold at or below market value. "This is an opportunity for people to purchase items that they might not otherwise buy. We are offering people the opportunity to support our work at the same time," said Cindy Kaufman, Development Director of ADL; The third,area contains "luxury" items. This 'includes a house from Royal Homes, a Lexus, a Schrier Ford conversion van, a high-quality fine furniture suite from All Makes and severalCaribbean cruise packages. Terry Bradshaw to replace Tommy Lasorda at B'nai B'rith Sports Banquet . Terry Bradshaw, the legendary former quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers and current co-bost of "FOX NFL Sunday," will now be the featured guest speaker at the B'nai B'rith Charity Sports Banquet May 14 at Ak-Sar-Ben.
