Beth Israel withdraws financial support for UTTO By Morris Maline Beth Israel Synagogue has advised Beth El Synagogue that it plans to discontinue its relationship in the United Talmud Torah of Omaha [U.T.T.O.) Since 1983, U.T.T.O. has been the m^or center for formal Jewish education of children from both Synagogues. Now, each synagogue again will be responsible for educating its own students. Donald Gerber, president of Beth Israel, told the Jewish Press that the decision to withdraw was inade because most of Beth Israel's youngsters are pursing alternative educational options. He said that a committee is being organized to recommend additional options for the dwindling taumbers participating in U.T.T.O. In a tetter to its members, Beth El said that it anticipates additional financial responsibilities as a result of the change. The new circumstances mean that for the first time in 20 years, Beth El's school will meet entirely at Beth El Synagogue. Beth El has asked its membership to provide input for its Talmud Torah renewal program. (See Stanley Mitchell's comment on page 4.)
