New chair uplifts Home residents

"If8 wonderftil." "I can walk now.» it was hard before." 'T. feel safe when Fm using it." *It' is the Lift Ride Chair which was given recently to the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home by LOVE (League Offering Volunteers to the Elderly.) And the quotes are by some of the residents who now have increased mobihty because of this gift. Valerie Bohrer, rehabilitative and restorative aide at the Home, said the device enables one attendant to move a resident from a bed or diair to a standing position without Ufting. Once on their feet, residents can walk in "comfort and security" with only one person needed to assist. Mrs. Bohrer added that "It's wonderful for both residents and the staff Some of our residents now can be ambulatory, with supervision. Whenever they get tired or want to stop, they just sit. The sling supports them, safely and securely. When they want to continue walking, they just lean forward and lift themselves." The hydraulic Lift Ride Chair can be adjusted to any height for easy transfer from a wheelchair, bed, or arm chair, she said. Bernice Horwich, chairman of the LOVE Steering Committee, said her group was thrilled to purchase what has become, in a few months, one of the most popular pieces of equipment in the Home.
